My Mk1 Fiesta Project - *Update 02/12/10 - Purchased Parts!*
Basically, my dad needed a runabout and was going to buy some kind of cheap car and it got me thinking.....
I have always loved the Mk1 fiesta with its retro coolness and thought that this was the perfect excuse and oppertunity to get one.
So what I have done is given my dad my mk3 1.1 runabout (out of the sheer kindness of my heart ) and bought myself a mk1.
It is a 1.1 L model from 1981 and has done 47k miles from new and has recently had a full respray in its original venetian red, as well as full treatment underneath with underseal and paint.
One thing was the guy didnt realise it had a mk2 tailgate on it till after the respray which he was pretty gutted about so it has a very nice mk2 tailgate, but me being me thats not good enough so I bought a mk1 tailgate for it and am going to spray that up the correct colour and get it fitted asap.
The plan is to lower her over a set of RS 4 spoke alloys and enjoy having a retro winter runabout!
Anyway, here are some pics:
The tailgate I have bought (originally off a mk1 xr2):

Anyway, let me know what you think

question ..
are mk1 and mk2 rear clusters a straight swap ?
i fancy putting a mk1 set on a mk2 to get rid of reverse lights

Wow, nice find! In agreement with some of the earlier replies, I'm also getting a bit of a soft spot for the MK1 Seen the big feature in Classic Ford this month - made me want one!

I know yea, it was his mate that told him once it was all done, apparently he was gutted!
I would say they should be mate but the bulb holders would need swapping too, go for it

Re: My Mk1 Fiesta Project - *Update 12/09/10*
Update time:
I have now got a set of RS 4 spoke wheels for her, picked them up last night and am delighted with them!
Put them next to the car this morning to get an idea of how they will look and am well pleased!
Here's some pics:
(Dont forget the car will be 50mm lower when the wheels are fitted )
I have also fitted the chrome trims on the front doors as they werent fitted as the clips were missing. Managed to get some clips from ford.
As well as this I got a new tail light for £2 off ebay as one of mine was cracked and fitted that too.
Finally finished prepping the tailgate yesterday too so its all ready to spray tomorrow now, cant wait till its done.

Cheers for the comments guys
Love the look of capri pepperpots on the XR2, look awesome!
Cheers mate
I cant wait to get the mk1 tailgate on, the mk2 one annoys me evey time I see it, and to make matters worse its got the wrong ford badge on it on the wrong side
Got it sprayed today so once the paint has hardened it will be going on, cant wait!
Cool, you got any pics of the old girl?
Its funny you should say that mate, as after alot of thinking i've pretty much decided that she will be stored over the winter now instead and I will use my si as the winter car. It just seems to make more sense i think. Will be pretty upsetting driving the si in the winter but you have to draw the line somewhere I suppose

Are they the proper supersport ones or the RWD fitment ones?

Yea, the tyres are 175/50/R13's and they are proper supersport wheels dated 1980 and have all been professionally refurbed

Re: My Mk1 Fiesta Project - *Update 13/09/10*
Haha, thats what I was thinking really. Firstly it seemed a real shame getting all that salt on a 29 year old classic and secondly, I know the si is reliable and a bit more "refined" for the winter period, as well as probably being less valuable in the long run.
Im going to make sure the si is well looked after tho, have promised myself that I will got to jetwashes at regular intervals to do the underneath of her over the winter

Re: My Mk1 Fiesta Project - *Big Update 22/09/10*
Right then, update time!
Done loads on her since the last update. Firstly, got the tailgate sprayed and fitted, looks soooooooooo much better now! Correct ford badge on correct side too!
Just need a fiesta badge now but thinking of leaving it off for the sleeper effect?
Also changed the hoses (as they were the originals ), as well as the water pump, thermostat, rad cap, flushed the coolant system out and filled it with proper coolant rather than rusty coloured water
She's running beautiful!
Now im back at uni as of today I put her into hibernation yesterday, so she is tucked up out of the salt and ice until next spring now
Anyway, here's the pics:
Let me know what you think
