Re: Mondeo Ghia X - New Car!
Well just thought id update this!
First of all, i made a list of the jobs that needed doing on the car when i got it. All the jobs were small but im slowly getting them sorted:
- Oil leak from front rocker cover - Done
- New Aux Belt as oil had got on it from leak - Done
- New Windscreen, had a couple of chips and a small crack (which turned into a big one ) - Done
- Tapping noise when warmed up, not sure what this is yet!
- Needs new central locking motor in passenger door
- Needs new remote central locking key
- Needs new fog lamp lens
- Couple of bits of bodywork need sorting (only very small bits)
Also want to do a few things that are known for going on the v6s.
- relocate IMRC
- clean secondaries
- fit a new water pump (not sure if the current one has metal or plastic blades, so going to replace it anyway.
Went out today and give the car a good clean and took a lot of photos!

Re: Mondeo Ghia X - New Car!
Small update on my car!
Give the car an oil and filter change last week along with a coolant change. And cleaned the inlet manifolds. Noticed a nice difference in power afterwards!
The ticking noise i mentioned further up the page is slowly getting louder. Could be something small like exhaust manifold gaskets, but im now moving closer to it being the "tick of death" which on mondeos, is usually head gasket failure.
If it does turn out to be head gasket(s) on their way out then i will be stripping the engine down and replacing them myself! should be a nice bit of fun for the beginning of summer! haha
But hopefully it wont be head gasket problems as this was done last year.

looking good mate, was a nice car in person also
i dont see how a ticking noise relates to the head gasket going, most drastic thing id expect it to be is the hydualic tappets are dieing, haha being a V6 theres 24 of them to change lol

Re: Mondeo Ghia X - New Car!
yeah, you wouldnt think it could head gasket, but according to MEG forums, its a very common thing to go on v6s, due to bad gasket design or something... and this causes a really annoying ticking noise when the cars warmed up and when you put your foot down, which is exactly what mine is doing

Would be surprised if it was the head gaskets. They were replaced the year before we got it

Re: Mondeo Ghia X - New Car!
well id look into the more common (on all engines as a whole) tapping noise first mate, its also the easier option, potentially cheaper one too
you may be able to use one fo them listening devices doctors use to listen to your heart and lungs on the cam cover to pin point where its coming from
well if what my lecturer at college said is anything to go by

Had the car up on ramps today and the back exhaust manifold feels like its leaking a bit, going to replace this and hope its the end of the noise! Just got to wait for a good enough day to do it lol

Re: Mondeo Ghia X - New Car!
Update
Not having much luck with the car lately, on way to uni last week the car started idling all over the place and cutting out. Replaced a cracked breather pipe, and it didnt sort it! Then the other day, got half way to uni again, and car cut out again. When i started it up again, there was a COMPLETE loss of power, sounded a bit like it wasnt firing on one cylinder.
Set of HT leads later and its still exactly the same.
For the last 2 days it feels like it is still loosing power. Is there any easy way to test a coil pack?
Also had the car on axle stands yesterday, and found a nice trail of oil running down the back of the engine, looks like its coming from the head gasket
Going to replacing both headgaskets this week or next week, and checking everything else over. Will give me chance to change exhaust manifold gaskets too while the heads are off!
Looking forward to doing the job in a way as its the biggest job il have done on a car and it'l give me chance to make sure everything is ok internally in the engine lol

Re: My Mondeo Ghia X - Possible Head Gasket replacement soon!
hope you sort it mate, but there'd be a few other signs if the gasket was fubar, smoke from exhaust hissing noises while running and your header tank will be losing water pretty quick

Re: My Mondeo Ghia X - Possible Head Gasket replacement soon!
cheers mate, ive been on Mondeo forums for a few months now and apparently the head gaskets (mainly rear bank one) was a really bad design and some of the holes didnt line up properly etc. One of the parts of the rear gasket between an oil way and the outside of the engine is very thin and weak and when it goes, you start loosing oil out of it very quickly. That (i think) is whats happened with mine. Theres a LOT of oil running down the back of the engine and i had the ticking noise that usually goes along with it.
Started removing manifolds, rocker covers etc yesterday, will get some pics up later!

Re: My Mondeo Ghia X - Possible Head Gasket replacement soon!
okkkkk, started the hugee task of replacing the head gaskets on the car!
So far I have had a couple of hours for 2 days removing:
- Battery
- Air Box + MAF Sensor
- IACV
- Upper Inlet Manifold
- Lower Inlet Manifold
- Spark Plugs and HT Leads
- Rocker Covers
- Aux Drive Belt
- Waterpump Belt
- Throttle and Cables
- Oil and Water Drained
- Header Tank
Started to clean most of the above as well.
Got a full day off tomorrow so plan on getting the alternator (4 spanner difficulty according to haynes manual :O ), crank pully and timing chain cover removed. Dont know if il get that done but heres a few pics:
How the engine looked before i started:
Off With the Upper Inlet Manifold, Front Rocker Cover, Battery and Air Box:
Then off with Rear Rocker Cover:
Lower Inlet Manifold and Injectors:
Pic of Front and Rear Rocker Covers, rear one half cleaned:
Organised Chaos!
Inlet Manifold gaskets which are useless and will be replaced:
More Organised Chaos...
Header Tank, VERY dirty.. does anybody know a good way to clean this?
Header Tank Disapeared...
Upper Inlet Manifold nice and cleaned up.
Throttle that despirately needs cleaning:
And more bolts that im trying my best to keep in order/ not loose!
