Re: My moondust FRST *work has started*
Little update today in between other RS's in the shop
I drilled out the spot welds and removed the sill and rear 1/4 panel
The inner sill isn't to bad mainly surface crust but I can't get a new one anyway
Seem to be discontinued
Sorry the pics are crap tonight I'm going to strip my iPhone and remove the foreign matter that's lodged itself over my camera lense!
My new 1/4
Who needs mates around the shop!

Good luck dude I thought I had a lot of rust to sort out. Hats off to you, I like seeing some one keeping an oldie on the road instead of just scrapping it!! Keep the pics coming

Re: My moondust FRST *cutting panels off*
Done some more today
Sitting all wrapped up before I start to cut, chop, grind, cut, grind, chop etc
First job was tank out to make safe,,,,,ish.
Then on to this lot
So done some chopping, grinding and cleaning then made this up and used the shrinker stretcher to put the right curves in it
Strengthened up
Welded in
And underneath too
Then I made the face plate bit up and welded that in and started to spot weld it but got late and I was tired so finished up for today

Re: My moondust FRST *Update 5/10/12*
Loads done today, like making the rubbish pattern inner arch fit
Cutting grinding measuring shaping etc, I only took two pictures when i finished for the day
The rear 1/4 has been on and off more times than Jordans Nickers
I felt like a train had run over my head today so thats my excuse!
I got a lot done anyways

Iv'e broke the back of the worst bit now I hope! cheers for the comments
If I didn't want to use it so badly and had the time it would of been gutted, blasted set on the jig and gone to town with, but as long as I know the rot is cut out and welded properly and strong and its all neat and nice I'm happy for it to be a solid good useable car

Re: My moondust FRST *Update 6/10/12*
Done a bit more today
Cleaning up and zinc coating then between the inner and outer sill is a strengthening fillet but mine was pretty damn crusty so I made one up
The old
Now the old one had some large holes pressed into it this strengthens it up and stop space between skins sweating up and rusting! Lol didn't work to well mr Henry!
So I decided to drill some holes then I pressed a socket through the holes into a bigger socket to add the strength so it doesn't look original but does the same job and it's not seen so I'm happy with it
From the back
Inner arch all in and zinc coated and filler cap hole all repaired
And trial fitting of 1/4 panel

Like moondust frst's. This also kinda makes me glad i havent bought a mk3 with the skirts and arches as they do seem to hide things really good so far though i think i would've just cried if i saw all that rust
Rust is lighter than carbon fibre, and rust holes are lighter than rust!!
