My new install :) Progress thread

Postby bassboy on Wed Dec 12, 2007 1:42 am

Hey everyone, as you know i ran quite a wild install in the FRS, was never a permanent thing, was only meant to be in the car for a weekend...that weekend turned into 2-3months LOL...what can i say...bass is in my blood LOL

The install consisted of:

Pioneer 7500DVD mk1 headunit and processor
Audiocontrol Concert Series Epicenter
Orion 1600.2 mid amp (420wrms x 2)
Rainbow CMX 465 components in my front doors in door builds (1 x tweeter, 2 x 6.5 midrange)
2 x Orion D5000
2 x Orion HCCA 15.2
14cuft custom made 'bassboy' ported box tuned to 29hz ;)
about 40 sheets of Dynamat Xtreme - 3 layers over the whole car but 4 layers in the boot and roof
2 x Yellow top batteries
Audison accessories

as you can tell...it weighed FAR FAR too much! besides, the box meant i had to take my backseats out...but it was summer and i loved the bass...i dont race every day of my life LOL

2 HCCA's, 2 D5000's, 2 Yellow tops, a 14cuft box later (once they were ripped out), my back seats were back in place and thats where they are staying lol...the amps, box and batteries are now sold and im waiting on a buyer for the subs! Its time to decide what to do with the car now in terms of ICE as i still want some nice amount of bass but i want to keep my back seats, be able to play loud, and not put an extra 200kgs of ICE in lol

As some of you may know, i run a company called SPB and am an official distributor of many manufacturers including RE, US Amps, Atomic, Tru Tech, Genesis, Morel, Hybrid Audio, Stinger, Dynamat etc etc just to name a few

i felt it was right to do the obvious thing and supply goods that are supplied by SPB :) The primary aim for this install is a very very clean sounding SQ system that plays a HUGE variety of music yet retains all the quality when the volume is turned up so i can play loud and heavy!

The front end will consist of what you have seen already...the ED Audio 7KU's in each door in the stock locations. if they dont fit, ill make a FG pod and place them on the outer surface on the door but still located near the stock speaker locations

these are the Dual 4 versions so ill be playing 2ohms per side. they are 200wrms each so ill feed around 200-250wrms atleast into them. They are known to not like clipping especially when over powered so, as always, i will make sure the power is clean as possible! These will be playing from around 100/80-60hz. They have a xmax of 13mm..which is the same as a Pioneer 3004SPL subwoofer! Naughty little things these are!

front components are taken care by 2 (yes TWO pairs LOL) of RE Audio XXX comonents! these will be run passive for now as from what i heard, the passive x-overs are amazingly setup and get the best out of the system. Rated at 150wrms per pair, i know they will play PLENTY loud enough for what i am after. I will be constructing custom door builds in order to house these monsters but im undecided whether to mount onto the door card or onto the door metal itself...The plan is to feed them between 300-350wrms per pair! 600-700wrms on just mids anyone?? lol

heres some pics of the speakers, these arent mine...ordered for a customer and wanted to take a few snaps of them before they went :D lol

from memory they are 130mm DEEP!!!! :O :O :O :O :O

I LOVE my dubplates so playing at <30hz is essential so i needed a subwoofer that will do just that, there was only really one player when looking at such depth...the RE Audio XXX! As i want a boot only install, i decided to opt for the 12" version and build a custom box for it! Box details i am still finalising however, one thing is for certain, the box will be tuned to around 25hz as i want some SERIOUS wobble and retain a flat response with the only spike in the response from the sub being from about 35hz downwards! i hope your sitting down ;)

And YES it IS taller than the HCCA 15.2!!! its nearly as tall as the face of the 15.2 which measure in at around 16"!!!!

a rather nice selection of RE subs lol

In terms of power supply, the stock alt will be retained however a split charge system will be employed using an Odyssey PC2150 battery in the boot while a smaller Odyssey batter will be mounted in the front as the standard battery is starting to die! Just to give a rough indication of what this battery can do...its nearly 3 time more powerful than an Optima yellow top!! im sure it wont have too much of a problem powering the system :D Ive put a 2l bottle of coke near the battery so you can see the size of the battery lol

thats all for now...i should be picking up my special mid amps end of the week and hopefully picking up a rather special headunit and processor if everything goes to plan!

ill update when more equipment arrives ;)
