My New Runaround
so, my friends had his license revoked and lent me his car for a few months
pretty good spec, electric windows/mirrors/lowered 30mm (i think)
just thought id post it up for you to have a good laugh at!
his plans are
rover 200/400 tdi injectors
coilovers
straight through stainless and a remap.
and my plans are to try and keep it on the road...

I'd say that's terrible economy! Should be able to get at least 40 in one of those I'd say

And to follow on from what Shaun said, air filters make a huge difference on diesels, so if it's not had a new air filter recently, change that (very cheap at a decent motor factors!), and diesel fuel filters really need to be changed regularly

nooo, he's paying for the mods, they're just the ones i suggested !
and i've only got tempcover so its not cost me a lot, all i have to do is put fuel in it.
driving like my grandads got me upto 35mpg ('urban')
its booked in for a service between xmas and new year.
the heater in the car has stopped working, any help with that?

Re: My New Runaround
fuse first..could be the motor or a relay if fitted...could also be the control mechanism for the knobs..believe cable operated iirc.
if the blower knob rotates like a prick in a bucket could be the place to look second aft fuse/poss relays
on the 5gtt theres an old china block resistor inside the heater box..no one really knows about it, whole dash the lot gotta come out for something the size of a celebration
GET A HAYNES MATE for circuit interface and poss suggestions and how too's to sort it:Q

Heater will be a heater valve behind the dash or in the engine bay iirc. They go all the time on those. Thats all i can remember

Re: My New Runaround
bloody faulty heater units...
lucky for us the mk3 unit seems perfectly fine
first is the first place to check
id say thats to fault if the blowers aint coming on, if theres no heat, or only hot or cold at any time then id blame the valve

Re: My New Runaround
nice good stuff!
i know you'd not want a 1.6 si as like you said you'd want to avoid swapping the engine
but on the flip side, the 1.4 might be too slow, or not entertaining enough, which may make you want to swap it, the 1.6 imo will be enough to keep you happy
hope you get an Si though, perfect mid level fiesta
before you move onto the big stuff like RS turbos etc

ookay
both 1.6
number 1 is overly priced, but good example, the good service history will make working on this a pleasure, mines got fsh and every nut and bolt comes loose on the turn
worst thing about it its high mileage for the price

number 2 is not so bad, cant see why hes waited 5 years to sell it after its failed break in, but again not bad and low mileage

Re: My New Runaround
The first one Jony posted isnt too far from me and started off on eBay at, I think, over £1200. It might have high mileage but it also doesnt have electric windows or the heated front screen and I've just picked up a 5 door 1.6 Si with 6 months tax and test to run about in for alot less than the current price of that one
I've got a red mk2 for sale as well but I am at the other end of the country to you
The only reason I have changed from the mk2 to the Si is it is easier to get my little girl into her car seat in the Si than it is in the mk2
