Re: My Polo - Some New Photos!

Well, ive only just realised the wings are bolted not welded, so tonight the wing will be coming off and sorted out as best as can be done with a heat gun and a hammer

also, going to strip the drivers side door down to sort out the leccy windows and reattch the passenger mirror be using the one remaining screw fixture and some sealer :(

hopefully will turn out like new :) ill post an update tomorrow of progress.

Wing is off, was told by a friend to use a heat gun an hairspray on the dent? Anyone ever heard of that?

From bumper is a right c**t! While it's off I'll be freshening up the front with new bulbs and such so it's all done in one job. Oh! And it has hid's which I didn't know hahaha.

I'll get some up tomorrow sam!

llama hid's hid from you :P

so hes telling you to use a makeshift flamethrower to heat the metal to soften it up then bash it with a hammer?

does he realise it has paint on it? :bonkers:

i guess it could work, your never gonna have a neat panel now without using filler and s**t, but just be careful of the heat on the paint, the heat will go through and blister it

Yeah they did! Because gti's have xenons with a mini ballast under the light I thought that was the case but as I hot the bumper off I discovered they were actually hid's hidden hahaha.

Well I have a heat gun which I'm going to lightly skin the metal with until slightly warm then slowly tap it out, also going to try and use a plunger  as I've had success with a plunger before haha :)

I just assumed any level of heat would help the paint!

I'll update afterwards tomorrow anyway.

My Polo - Pictures of the repairing

Postby - Danny Boy - on Sat Jan 12, 2013 2:18 pm

The heat gun and hair spray has nothing to do with making a flamethrower lol. Basically what you do is warm up the panel where the dent is and then spray it with hair spray, the cold hair spray against the hot panel will pop the dent out. Compressed air (co2) works just as well. The dent in your wing does look quite bad, so might not work. It will probably be creased no matter how much you try get it out, but give it a shot and see what happens :)

My Polo - Pictures of the repairing

Postby - Danny Boy - on Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:04 pm

You probably don't need it too hot because the metal will be too flimsy to react to the cold on it, just keep trying and slowly increase the heat as you go until you get a result. It might not even work, but it's worth a go. There's various videos on YouTube showing people do it too

Hair spray probably wasn't the greatest thing to use, compressed air, or canned air would be better

some paintless dent removal people can get that dent out it just takes a bloody long time! all you have to do is remove the inner arch panel for them and leave the wheel on and give them a couple of hours and they can reduce it or may get it near to perfect!

There's a rubbing sound coming from one of the back wheels, sounds like when you rub your hands together?

Wheels rubbing on anything?

Brake shoes/pads rubbing?

I'd check those two things first, if the wheel is rubbing you should see the wear marks.

It's a metal rubbing, the tyres scrub I know that but it's a different noise.

When I put new pads on at the back I didn't replace the brakes so it could be those rubbing?
