My Red FRST (before we started pulling her apart)
Hi all i have been told to get some pics up here for you to see,
this is my car before M.O.T and 2 pages of failures, also before we started pulling her apart and found all the rust and fibre glass, passenger rear arch was mostly fibre glass oh the joy.
it started fine here but didnt run well as the turbo was knackered.

Dude use the img button above the text box to insert your piccys on the thread its alot easier for other users so see them that way.
Car does look ok in the pics. Shame it was hiding so many gremlins. How much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking??

Re: My Red FRST (before we started pulling her apart)
hahaha its needed welding all along both outer sills,
the drivers side iner sill had to be rebuilt.......... we pulled the trim off and discovered all the passengers rear arch was mostly fibreglass so we cut out and replaced that......... so all the interior had to come out.
the rear brake hoses were bulging under pressure so we replaced them.
the washers didnt work so we got a pump off a mk4 from a scrappie......
the brakes were imbalanced due to old pads and a clip missing from the calliper on the drivers side and the calliper had seized a new calliper was put on there. the threads went in the carrier on the passenger side so i got a carrier from a scrappy.
we also replaced the front flexi hoses as they were cracked.
the turbo was knackered so i got a new unit from midland turbo in nottingham after sending my old one to them.
then the downpipe snapped ( an old thing the previous owner had knocked up ) i got a stainless built by longlife £50 but they could not guarantee it would fit as i could not get the car to them..... its about half a centimeter out so im hoping they maybe able to sort that when i can get the car to them, i made it fit and it doesnt blow
then the altenator belt snapped so i replaced that.
both side repeaters wouldnt work or brake lights or main beam on passenger side. i got the repeaters going and the brake lights to flicker haha but no go with the main beam, tried bulbs fuses and relays.........
i cant remember if anything else with out looking at the failure sheet.
but the good news is i put it in the garage with only the lights left and they rang me earlier and its fooking PASSED woo hoooo. so i can pick it up tomorow.....
my rad has a leak so im looking for a new one and i havent seen a FRST that runs well but im pretty sure mine needs setting up properly. it boosts a bit but doesnt pressurise enough to dump hard.
so yeah i saved her haha, gona get a mate to paint it soon...... i have a holiday coming up maybe after that.
does anyone know a good place to get it set up? or can anyone on here do it?

Re: My Red FRST (before we started pulling her apart)
thats a fair bit there, but i would of said nothing short of normal wear and tear.
the main beams though, have you tried cleaning up the earth point where the brown wires bolt to the body, if there corroded it cuases all sorts of wierd things to go on

Re: My Red FRST (before we started pulling her apart)
the garage who did my m.o.t fixed my lights for me, they did however say they are not sure how long it will last as they are not the best at electrics.... so i will check that out J.
had it out on the road today
it isnt boosting right tho..... seems to be there but doesnt boost well..... boost gauge sits on the minus side of the gauge untill you rev it then it only goes half way on the gauage which isnt even 0.2 of a bar........
also when it got warm it would not tick over kept stalling......... which made junctions bloody fun on the way to work hahaha
any ideas? again thanks for all your help

I know its hard but try not to use it all the time till it gets sorted otherwise you may be a looking at a BIG bill to fix it. Its sooo hard to try and help someone with a problem like this without actually seing the car.

Does it sound like the turbo is boosting? Fix be u got a split boost pipe or something similar leaking ur boost off. Did u check for play in turbo shaft?

Re: My Red FRST (before we started pulling her apart)
got the belt on, took her fora spin, seems to be running nice, got her boosting to 0.6 bar at the moment as the turbo is new...... exhaust is rattling gona take it to longlife see if they will sort out the downpipe they made for me as the exhaust is sitting on the bracket underneath the engine and makes hell of a vibration.........
i was quite happy went up the mountain fora quick spin........... then it started to rain and my fking doors are leaking, theres a gap at the top as if someones tried to get in it..... as its been stored in the garage it had never been in the rain before so i never knew........
so its gona have new doors before its painted...... theres a Si in a local scrappie ive been pulling bits off...... will these doors fit my FRST? hope so hahaha
