Anyway have had it a couple of years now and it has maybe covered 150 miles and 70 of those was driving it home from where i bought it it lol. I had it stored outside for a year and under the covers have done it no favours so i started to peel back the kit and see what lurks. It was not as bad as first thought and only requires a new inner/outer rear arch passenger side fuel filler repair panel and new sills but i am changing the rear panel as it as quite obviously had a bump in the past and been knocked back out. I am not touching the front end panel wise as its all original and not showing any dreaded rot. Will try and give some regular updates now as i had loads saved on my phone which i was going to stick on but some low life stole it last week with all my pictures of the underneath restore nothing major was really required but i stripped back anything that looked s**t rubbed it back spray of primer and hammerited it all then covered it all with hammerite wax oil underseal a few times. Am having the body worked done after a christmas now when funds are better by a local firm who specialize in old cars they are called old school engineering and have done work on rs robs fiesta a few years ago which was who give me their details. Any way hope to update you soon with some more pics but am having trouble uploading the one's i got do i need a photobucket account or something because i keep getting files to large. The strips do have a subtle effect. It had one across the front windscreen but i found it over kill. But i am thinking that when it comes back from the bodyshop with the side mouldings and gren bumper strips back on i might take them off as i am going for the standard look. with exception of polished rs2000 rims on which i am off to collect as speak

This is what bumpers hide
The back panel is being replaced and either i source a replacement boot or fix this one i left it open when pushing it back in my other garage that had a low roof and overhead storage. And there is not a bit of rot on it shame really nevermind crap happens anybody got a shell they are scrapping and would willing to cut the rear drivers side corner section off for me as the arch is fine and i can't seem to find a replacement repair panel for that area. The bodyshop said they will make their own piece for it if i can't find one but thought i would ask as you never know. anyways will have a good update in a couple of weeks now as its off to the bodyshop for christmas my little present too her. The place that is going to be carrying out the work reckon within a fortnight it will as good as new lol but honestly these guys work is amazing they are old school engineering they carried out the work on rs rob's fiesta a few years back when it was blue and i just hope that they do the rs justice because it hasn't been used for 2 years or more and i miss it bad

These will be going on whens its back from the bodyshop have been on the search for a set for quite some time and i now finally have a set and for the BARGAIN price of 30 notes complete with 195/45 tyres. They took a bit of cleaning but i am rally happy with how they look and think they will suit the car much better than the tsw's which are currently on there

Re: my rs mini restore
Right fellas after opinions. I have opted out of the expensive option of paying for a bodyshop to do all the work required to my car and I am up for having a crack at it myself except the spraying part which I will get a mate to do for a drink.
This is the worst bit of rot on the car with exception of the sills.
How would you lot go about it. I got a genuine Ford 5 door rear quarter and I have also got hadrian repair panels for the inner and outer arch and fuel filler. Which direction would you take use the quarter panel and trim it to fit or would you use the repair panels. The rest of the arch is reasonably solid except the area in the picture which was full of filler you wouldn't have thought it until I ripped the kit off . The kit was stuck on with some sort of no nails and when removed a big chunk of filler the size of that gap came off with it. Excuse me as this might be a daft question but I have never done anymore than rub a car down when it comes to bodywork and it all a bit new to me but I am sure it can't be that difficult. Will get some more pictures up as soon as I get my hands into it over the next couple of days. I am off work for a fortnight so am going to hopefully get it to a stage where it can be covered in primer. Any advice greatly appreciated. Although I am doing it myself I want it to look half decent

I would take the opportunity to split the outer from inner, as that way you can be 100% there isn't anything left between the seam that will come back and haunt you.

Also tried my polished RS2000 alloys on today as have been itching to see what they will look like. I looked for these rims for ages and as luck would have it I found 2 sets at the same time. So me being me I bought the 2 sets. After a bit of elbow grease they came out like this
They look much better than tsw evo r's I currently have fitted what you think

Re: my rs mini restore
I didn't think it was that big a job new sills, rear panel, repair passenger rear arch and few welds, fill a few dents here and there and a spray job. I have probably bitten off more than i can chew but you know what they say chuck a dog in the deep end and he will learn to swim

Re: my rs mini restore
as far as filler repair goes, that hadrian pattern part you got, bin it, there crap tbh, chop the 5 door ford one up, will be much better in long run, or find one at the scrappy thats not rotton (rare, but happens, i found one) and cut that section off.

Re: my rs mini restore
I have decided that it is going to be easier for me to use the whole quarter and cut it to fit. I am going to have to make a sizeable weld to fit just the arch and filler repair so it makes sense to use the quarter panel. Less work then having to cut out around the fuel area and arch and less welds to clean up. Made a start today on cleaning the sills up ready for new to be fitted, tomorrow slash Wednesday they will be fitted. Will move on to the passenger rear arch then. I also trial fitted fitted my new cooler and its bloody big Much bigger than I anticipated to be honest but its all good. Got to get a piece of pipe tomorrow as my samco's need extending to suit the new coolers outlet/inlet. I was running a pace charge cooler system and the piping I had left over from this was very minimal so I will get a piece of ally tube to extend the cooler to cross over and turbo to cooler pipe by 4 inches and 3 inches respectfully . Here's the cooler trial fitted I think you will agree it is LARGE
I will get some pics up tomorrow of how far I have got with the sills. As far as getting the body done in my 2 weeks off it is looking promising. Will hopefully have it all up and rolling by the end of March

Re: my rs mini restore
Got a bit done today not got a decent camera or nothing like that and to be honest my phone is pretty crap and I have managed to get the drivers side sill off and new sill welded on. Prepped the passenger side ready for that to go on in the morning and cut out most of the rear quarter, needs tidying up but am progressing. It was a bit daunting at first putting a mig to a car as I have never welded bodywork before and I think I haven't done too bad. Not speaking too soon yet though as I got a bit to do yet but the whole not confident bit has gone and I can't wait to do the rest now. Here's the only 3 pics I took.

Re: my rs mini restore
Got a bit done today and I am ready to put the quarter on tomorrow morning. Finished the driver side sill off well its fiTted anyway just need to finish it off from under a ramp as its hard work on axle stands in a lane. I will take it round my mates on the weekend to use his 2 poster for a couple of hours. Replaced the rot in the inner rear passenger arch with nice new metal and got the quarter roughly to shape. Cut out all the crap form just above the fuel cap down to just below the vent so that the quarter fits nicely. Took a couple of pics again but not to many as the camera on my phone is crap
Also I need to sort a patch out at the base of the quarter where it meets the sills as there is a little more rot here. Hopefully will be done tomorrow also
And another little weld required here
Will crack on tomorrow and see where I am at but I am getting right into it now. I was horrifed at the thought of welding a car before but I don't know what I was so worried about its not that difficult. It might not be done to the highest of standards but until I have a few grand hanging around to spend on having it done properly it will do and get it on the road for the next year or so. I have agreed a price for a spray and its only costing a crate of beer and 5 hamlet cigars. . I got to do all the prep work obviously and pay for the paint but bargain.

I am learning as I go so I hope all goes well. The most daunting bit was actually cutting stuff off not knowing how difficult the process is but i have got my head round what i got to do ( i think ) and am hoping to get it to the stage where it will be in primer by the time I am back in work week Monday.

Re: my rs mini restore
Got the passenger rear quarter on today. I was a bit puzzled how to go about it at first but i ended up cutting the majority of the old quarter off and fitted the new metal. Saves any rust coming back for a while
.
Also got the the little weld around the brake pipe done a patch on the floor near the front jacking point and the bottom of both rear inner arches where that plug that always rusts is to. Has been quite a productive day got 2 welds to make on the chassis now which are the size of a fifty pence piece and some tidying up to do and its ready for some filler and primer. A mate of mine has got a day off tomorrow so he is going to stick the filler on while I crack on with the welding. So touch wood I can take it around the corner to my mates where he can throw some primer on it Saturday afternoon. Getting it sprayed by the end of next week could be promising. I have been putting off doing the work to this for nearly two years . I have had it stored in a garage a couple of miles away from my house which had no electricity. I only got it down to my home to take to the bodyshop. And realising my bank balance was not in the best condition what with Christmas just gone and holidays to pay for I opted to give it a go myself and am glad I have. Just needs a good set up now after not being used not that there is anything wrong with the way it runs because it runs like clock work starts first time every time no matter how long it hasn't been started for, but I have a new Grs intercooler going on and some new injectors I want sticking in so I best do it before I MOT it. Time to get it out on the road then just in time for the show season and the summer drives

The quarter didn't come with that piece jay or the repair panel arch I got does not have that bit, I have cut a piece to fit though which I will wack on in the morning. I am thinking now the inner arch had that piece will wack it on instead of using the piece I cut. Just hope bloody pikies don't rob it at stupid o'clock
