PAINTED 16.3.12

Postby rsturbonutter on Sat Mar 17, 2012 5:25 pm

Lads I have just had a few pictures sent to me by my a friend of mine who has kindly taken the car to the garage and masked it for me yesterday before it was painted and from what I can see it looks very nice. My friends words where it looks brand new which has put smiles on my face all ready. I am away from home until Tuesday so that I can see for myself but it all sounds very promising so far. I have got a couple of photos of before and afterwards and some of it semi assembled. I will finish putting it together next week when I get home but my mate has already put all the glass and some lights and bumpers and what NOT on already. Just so that it was water tight.
Anyway here they are comments welcome

By the time i get home it sounds like my next mission is go and pick a zetec s rear beam up and fit it then off for an mot. My mate has kindly been busy all weekend putting it back together for me and he has got all the interior back in and all cleaned down. Side skirts and front arches are fitted new euro rear lights fitted ambers fitted front and sides cleaned my engine bay and pretty much put it all together. He has left me the rear arches to fit as he didn't know if it was too early to be glueing anything on to it and hasn't fitted my intercooler but they are both small jobs which shouldn't take too long to sort out. All in all I can't wait to see it for myself. Come next weekend it should be ready for an mot as i can't see anything other than my rear beam wrong with it. And possibly emmisions as it does smell a bit rich. Thanks for the comments lads and i hope to have some nice pictures of it all assembled come thursday for you :D :D :D

Jony if you want yours sprayed fella then not a problem give me a shout when your ready for it and i will get it sorted for you. Like i said as long as you do all the prep work it costs peanuts. All in all everything accounted for it came in at around 240 notes so a bargain and as far as i know is a top quality job. It makes my quote for 4.5k sound ridiculous. The guy who owns the garage i have been mates with since i can remember and is a top bloke just don't let him spray it

spray job looks good mate and now nice and shiny, only thing that stands out to me is the swage line where you put the rear quarter repair panel on looks wobbly.other than that mate looks sweet :)

The swage line does look a bit wobbily as you say and thats down to my inexperience I attacked it bit hard with the grinder when cleaning my weld up and after i think 4 lots of filler i just couldn't get it correct. It is not as bad as it looks and unless you are looking for it it doesn't jump out at you. Its a damn sight better than it was before so i can live with it :P :P

awesome stuff mate, what sort of condition would it need to be in?

windows left in? and masked up once there? on crappy wheels?

would probs have to be driven there, not paying for a low loader :P

anyway this is all in good time, its not ready yet :P

its paintwork isnt bad, just good few small scratches and a few larger ones that bug me, last owner was a bloody careless carpenter
even had a ladder on one the roof on a rack

If you could get it as far as you can mate then get it to my house we can take the windows etc out here and the pop it round the corner to the garage. I took my wheels off mate well my mate did and put it on axle stands and all glass was removed. It depends on how far you want to go fella but the more you take off the better in imo as there will be less to mask up and you can simply blow it over then. But if you wanted to get it up here you could do any rubbing down and what not at the back off my house fella it doesn't look that bad so wouldn't take much more than a good day on it to get it ready for paint. Just let me know when you are ready and we can go from there

I ended up using a genuine ford 5 door rear quarter and cut it used as much of possible of it. I was lucky in finding it mate £10 on ebay. Tried finding a 3 door quarter for about a year with no luck. I got the repair panels online from a company called autopanels they where all Hadrian panels. I think the rear arch was around 28 posted nearly the same for the inner arch and i think the sills where 45 delivered. When I was at my mates garage last week there was a chap there who was a rep for imperial panels and i asked was it true that they have taken over hadrian and he told me yes anything that was available from hadrian is still available from imperial so that could be your best bet as hadrian are regarded as the best fitting other than genuine ford. But saying that have you seen the price on genuine ford if you can find it. Imerials page for fiesta parts is here http://www.crashrepairparts.com/parts/m ... s?_ts=6340
But unfortunately they do not have the rear quarters listed. Hope tis helps a bit fella :Q :Q

Just got home from work and i am gunna get into it now after some grub. Not much left to do to be honest. I got to fit the rest of the kit am going to bond the back arches on but the rest will either be bolted or riveted as it was once before. I was going to drill holes in the rear and restud my arches but have opted against it because i don't want to be drilling holes in the body just asking for trouble i reckon. And if there is ever a time when it needs to come off well there will have to be something wrong so bonded or not it will come off
Here's a few pics of where it is now i just fitted the cooler and what a snug little fit I only roughly cut the bumper before it had paint as i has a standard cooler temp fitted and couldn't be arsed to take it on and off but the fit is bang on. Here's a few pics but i will have a lot more at the end of the day.

I have also trial fitted one of my tsw evo r's which was sprayed white months ago to see what it looks like and I think it looks very nice a lot like the comp's. Let me know what you think of the white as it could be an option to spray the rest white rather than use my polished rs2000 rims

That looks very fresh now! I'm not a fan of the white wheels though and tend to think that silver would look better.

Do you have any green strips for it?
