Wahey - the new sensor arrived first thing this morning!
I've made the payment for the flyers for Sunday - so I'll have to come up then even if it is in the Cabby just to hand out the flyers.
Also I've managed to get my Turbo booked into a different garage for tomorrow at 1pm, which is good as the car is being stickered up in the morning!
I've also spoken to Jano Oddkidd and he tells me that both of the prongs are supposed to be to the left of TDC, the closest one to it being 3.5 teeth on the vernier pulley away, so that will explain the poor running of the car on the way home last night.
All systems go at the moment - just going to go and fit the sensor now and give the car a wash down (as well as change my rear light clusters for standard ones).
Cheers,
Andy

I've swapped the polarity so that the new sensor is sending the correct signal now and I've soldered it all up.
Here's the new sensor in place
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about wiring as there is quite a bit of excess now, but my main priority is to get the thing running properly as the MOT is now booked for tomorrow lunch time.
Just the timing to adjust and the rear light clusters to swap back for the standard ones
Cheers,
Andy

Fantastic!! I see you're following my example of squeezing three billion jobs, an MOT and a setup into just a couple of days You can do it Andy, and I like the sound of stickers I really wanted to get some for mine for Ford Fair but forgot due to all the fun I've been having!! Go go go!

It's looking pretty bleak now guys
The engine is running fine with the timing all sorted and the sensor positioned correctly on the new bracket, so that's made me smile.
But the exhaust is still making a whupping noise on tickover like a misfire (but not if you get me), and when taking the oil cap off when the engine's running alot of smoke came out of what's obviously a small hole in my exhaust A huge plume came out the back.
We then checked the T3 oil return pipe as these often get a kink in them causing turbo's to f**k up but it's not that, that's all fine and not leaking!
This is almost certainly the oil seals in the Turbo that have gone and probably worse knowing my luck! So that's a definite no-no to track time at Ford Fair and almost certainly a no-no to actually going there in the Turbo as the MOT is tomorrow, unlikely to pass on emissions!
Trax is the weekend after I believe and I'm supposed to be going to that show, so tomorrow I'll have to make my decision whether to take the turbo off and send it to Turbo Technics by the end of this week or if it passes then drive it to the show and hope I don't smoke out too much of Silverstone when arriving/leaving.
Needless to say - I'm very peed off at the whole situation!
Cheers,
Andy

The seals on my T2 went and it was fine when warmed up. I don't know how bad yours is but you could take it for the MOT when it's warm?

Yeah - it only seems to do it when you first start the car up, before anyone says, I know it's not the bloody piston rings as the head has only just been put back on after fixing some damage in there.
I'll give it a long drive before taking it in for the MOT - see what happens!
It could be ok - I managed to get my old CVH cars to pass the MOT with knackered valve stem oil seals.
Cheers,
Andy

Bah poo Seals is surely a one-day job, and you can have it off....fixed...and back on the car within a week? I know it's more cost, but if you want to do it, you can make Trax with a faultless turbo I'm sure And you can potter along to Ford Fair in it as Ade says. Hope it's clear enough for the MOT tomorrow, fiddle with the mixture screw a touch if you're close on emissions. Remember how many turns you turn the screw though so you can put it back to where it was.

I've got it marked where it was set by Grove Garage so turning it back shouldn't be a problem

Today's been a funny old day - I took the car to a local guy who does signwriting and he kindly sorted my car out for me with some stickers.
This was all supposed to be done to help promote my business at Ford Fair this weekend but unfortunately the car then went on to fail it's MOT - not surprising really considering the turbo's oil seals have gone and my run of bad luck with this car.
I thought I'd take a few snaps of the car - the pictures don't really do it any justice (especially as it's difficult for me to get a picture of the whole car on my crappy driveway) - it looks alot better in the flesh but you guys will have to wait for TRAX to be able to see it (that's if any of you lot are actually going!).
Cheers,
Andy

A couple more to show the rear windscreen and other side of the car.
Stupidly the car is now declared SORN so nobody except for my neighbours will see it until it gets fixed

That looks really smart Andy, great font choice The colour choice could've been a bit better to make it stand out on the move I think, though that'll be fine for when it's stationary at shows etc, which is no doubt the main idea. Definitely a good idea to sticker it up though, I hope it brings the emails in

I don't take the Turbo out for shopping or anything unless I really have to and even then it doesn't leave my sight where possible!
I have a Escort Cabby as well which is my daily driver - the Turbo is locked up except for on nice evenings or weekends, when I should be out enjoying driving it!

Thanks Reg, if I see you at Ford Fair I'll have to take a look around your example of British Leyland's finest
Did your Maxi come with the vents as standard or were they a custom addition to your car? I bet it gets a bit hot under that bonnet with everything going on!
If I don't see you at Ford Fair I may well see you at TOTB next year, you're fighting the Rover cause with their team fwd aren't you?
Thanks all!
Andy

Oh my yes, Andrew, the 'vents', as you call them, were an addition of my own design, in order to assist with the cooling of the lovely A-series I installed. You are welcome to have a little peek around Doris; she loves to be fondled by an enthusiast.
What is this 'TOTB' you speak of? Is it one of these newfangled acronyms? If so, I'm afraid I'm not at all up on modern lingo myself so you will have to excuse me.
Kindest regards
Reginald

Name the show and I'll make sure I come along to 'fondle Doris' as you put it
TOTB stands for 'Ten Of The Best', it's an event held in association with Redline magazine where ten of the best road-legal cars in the country get to compete on an airfield for different disciplines including quarter mile drag race, handling circuit and maximum speed runs. These events are broken down into three categories, those being front wheel drive (which I believe my car and Doris would be classed under), rear wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. I hear the British Leyland group still do very well in the front wheel drive discipline at this event.
Let me know how it goes with your vehicle!
Thanks,
Andy

Mr. Hardy: Is that so? I must look into attending this event. It certainly sounds very gay indeed. Doris would certainly be thrilled to be the centre of attention. Irene may even be interested in coming along for the ride.
Heeman10: That's very kind of you. My grandson Charlie used to be very interested in something called Heeman - he told me it was a show on the television which he enjoyed watching. I bought a lunchbox with 'Heeman' written on the front for his fourteenth birthday this year, but he didn't seem too thrilled... I can't say why for sure though.

Right - I've got a bit of an update for you guys.
As some of you may have seen in my post in General, I've now got my oil cooler and oil gauges - this should help keep the engine reliable for longer periods of time
Just need an EGT gauge now to finish my instrumentation off
I gave Turbo Technics a call to get an idea of cost on the refurb of my turbo - they said it will be between £200 to £400 so definitely worthwhile doing - especially as I know the turbo is a good spec for my mapping
So - the turbo is coming off the car early next week and then being sent off - the car should be ready to drive again with all the new bits and refurbed turbo operating properly. So I should finally be able to drive it properly with everything working!
I'll keep my finger's crossed
Cheers,
Andy

Bit of an update for you guys!
I went to fit the gauges during the week and found that the oil temperature gauge didn't come with a sender like I was told and also the oil pressure gauge they'd given me was actually a mechanical one (when I thought it was an electrical one).
Anyway - I spoke to the guys at Rally Design and i've got to send the mechanical gauge back and they're going to send me a oil temperature sender for my other gauge along with the electrical oil pressure gauge at no extra cost, which is good of them
I thought I better start thinking about where this oil-cooler is going to mount and I thought that I might as well take out the nearside fog/spot light unit.
I offered up the cooler to the light unit - and what do you know, it looks like it's almost a perfect fit height wise, only cutting away I'll have to do will be for the oil connections
I took a couple of pics to show you what I actually mean
Cheers,
Andy
