My RST - nearly come to that time...
Yeah - I want to mount it to the car itself rather than the bumper, so will have to get some L shaped brackets to mount it up on all 4 corners then cut away the back of the bumper to accomodate the oil hoses and connectors with some free room for slack.
Couldn't believe how good a fit they were - lucky or what!
I may well stick mesh over the front of the light recess so as to try and stop stones from breaking into my oil system!
Cheers,
Andy

That looks like it could be a very handy size! Isn't your oil filter on the driver's side? That'd look pretty darn mean I must say

CVH's have the oil filter on the back at the near-side of the engine block...
Also - there is no room for the hoses to pass between the cambelt and chassis leg on the driver's side of the engine bay - there's alot more room to route the pipes through just above the gearbox itself on the nearside.
With it that side it also means I won't need to use too long an amount of hose - I'm going to keep a careful eye on the oil pressure gauge and I'll probably end up marking out the 'normal' levels on the gauges (cheap-ass I know, but better than nothing!).
Cheers,
Andy

Great stuff Andy. I would say put it in the driver's side light unit, then fit a numberplate in the passenger side either that or mount the webcam in the passenger side driving lamp and then find some other weird and wonderful use for the foglamp unit - I don't know, rocket launchers? a flux capacitor? I'm sure you can think of something.

I stopped in at my local motor factors today to see if they stocked any oil hose or washer jet hose (to replace my rubbed through one ).
They didn't stock either - marvellous! Next stop is to find somewhere that stocks good quality oil hose and buy a few metres of it
The oil pressure gauge has been sent back now, so hopefully I should have the electrical one back along with the temperature sender for the other gauge
The turbo is being taken off the car later this week - so work on modifying the bumper to slot it over the cooler will begin then
Hope to do various other bits to it over the next week so I'll keep you guys updated with pics along the way
Cheers,
Andy

looking good andy.
what size oil cooler is that???
number of rows, connection size, depth etc. looks like a good fit indeed.
you not using braided hose andy?

Does the thermoblock youve got have two male/male connections that go between the thermoblock and oil hose connection, or did you order those seperatly, I cant find them so was wondering do you have the part number from rally design. Cheers

My thermoblock and cooler have two male fittings each, if that helps I'll leave andy to his thread though

dannyboy and Tony -yep I got male/male connectors from Rally Design at the same time, here are the part numbers on my invoice for the oil cooler bits
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk
OTSP1 - Sandwich plate 3/4 UNF (Mocal) £28.50 + VAT
S1 - 1/2" BSP Male/Male Adapter (pair) £6.60 + VAT
HEFP3-8 - 1/2" BSP Straight Push-Fit (for the sandwich plate - pair) £2.92 + VAT
HEFP93-8 - 1/2" BSP 90degree Push-Fit (for the oil cooler - pair) £9.08 + VAT
13/235 - 13 Row 235mm Mocal Oil Cooler (1/2" BSP) - £45.55 + VAT
Tony - I may well change to braided hoses but good quality rubber hose shouldn't be a problem, will have to see how it goes with the push fit connectors though!
Cheers,
Andy

dannyboy :Thanks mate, guess ill be ordering s1 1/2" adapters tomorrow then
Yeah - I think the S1 code is just a manual code for bits that aren't on the main stock list. They had them in stock when I was there though, if they're not in stock they usually get the parts in next day ready to be sent out

Hi Mate
Just had a thought similar to Capri's, why not make the side that the oil cooler is not, a cold air feed to the air filter (can't remember if you've got a T3 or not). It could be kind of like the one Rawli has made for his head lights but with a mesh over it to match the oil cooler side.
I think what i have written makes sense???
Just a thought...

I would do that but I have a camera in the driver's side light unit meaning removing it would cause me extra hassle.
Time is running short to make many more further alterations to the car before Trax, so getting the in-dash screen fitted, ACT gauge wiring re-sorted, gauges installed, turbo removed then refurbished and refitted etc. is taking priority.
Long list of things to do - thanks for the idea though.
Cheers,
Andy

I must have pulled a connection off somewhere when fiddling with the in-dash screen, Simon only put it in temporarily with scotch locks so I wouldn't be surprised if they've come undone. Time to get the soldering iron out.
Simon came round earlier this evening as well and has got the turbo off of the car for me - glad he did it as I'd have smashed the radiator to buggery if I'd have done it!
Will call Turbo Technics tomorrow and ask them to collect it (hopefully on Thursday).
With the bumper off the car we can see that mounting the oil cooler in the bumper isn't going to work (sadly) because of the lack of air flow behind the cooler! We could have drilled holes behind it but then there's the problem of the oil hose connections coming from the top will be crimped up by the bumper mounting bolts touching on the front panel - just not enough room!
Me and Simon had another look around and because my car's not running wheel arch liners we can mount it to the front wing of the car on the driver's side (below the bumper line) and then drill some holes into the front panel to help some air flow through it that way (of course it won't be as much air as if it was mounted in the bumper but that's the only other viable position for it).
Absolutely fuckloads to do before Trax - it's yet another tall bloody order!
Oh yeah - turbo looks completely shagged with lots of play in the shaft, so bearings and oil seals at least, just hope that the compressor blades haven't touched on the housing due to the shaft play.
Cheers,
Andy

couple of pics - they look like alot of my older pics of the car in bits, that's probably because the car spends most of it's time in bits rather than running as a complete car (can anyone tell that I'm pretty frigging fed up with it?).

I phoned up Turbo Technics this morning and they arranged for the turbo to be collected this afternoon! I was pretty surprised thinking it would be collected tomorrow but the Initial Citylink van arrived a couple of hours later and the Turbo is now winging it's way to them
Once they have it it's going to be stripped down and inspected for damage
I can recommend the service from Turbo Technics so far - very impressed!
Cheers,
Andy

m4frd :yeah i can vouch for them to, great service, and they know what their doing which always helps
Me too. I was well impressed wheni sent off my turbo to them.
I sent it to them, next day i got a phone call with the report, day after got another call to say it was ready and being despatched, next day my turbo was back.
Fantastic service and very helpful when talking to them. IIRC i spoke to Giles. He knew his stuff...

Well if Turbo Technics are as quick with my turbo as they have been with other people's I should get it back early next week, so it could actually be running again by the end of next week but there will probably be delays due to the gauges and oil cooler I'm fitting
I fixed the ACT gauge wiring today - going to install the motorised touchscreen tomorrow and what wiring I can do of the gauges I'm doing it bit by bit as I'm really ill at the moment and there are only a few hours in the day when I can move properly
Should be ready in time for TRAX
Cheers,
Andy

Also you got a write up in Fast Ford this month, congrats

Thanks dude - I got my copy of Fast Ford today and enjoyed the read
Those Defi gauges look nice - mind disclosing how much they set you back? I am tempted to change to them in the distant future
Turbo Technics tried to phone me this afternoon, I missed the call, called them back and they said they'd call me back by which point it was gone 5pm! Oh well - I hope that doesn't delay things at all, time is getting tight already!
Cheers,
Andy
