Re. the intercooler - it's your shout but I thought I'd post this idea for the benefit of the pro alloy bloke.

When you've made the tapered inlet/outlet reservoirs (whatever you call em lol) could you not then put a second shell over the top of it? One which basically runs parallel to the cores and is a purely aesthetic addition, outside the actual functioning tapered one.

edit: I "rendered" this in a "CAD" program.

we have since changed the design to parallel tanks- we found that the new tank design with a 45 degree cap in the end had almost the same flow characteristics.
Also a couple of chaps heve sprayed their top tanks satin black which renders the cooler almost invisible from the outside.


On the note of flow and pressure loss from a previous post... we have experienced up to 3 psi gains with this cooler , without any adjustment, where as some coolers give a loss.. so we are very happy with that

I think the front end of my car will look alot better when the mounting of the intercooler has been de-wonked and the bottom hole is meshed in the bumper.

I shouldn't have too much grief getting it to fit. The fiberglass bumper cuts really easy so fingers crossed i don't have too may probs, i'm also keeping the standard radiator.

Nice one Andy, should keep the ACTs nice and low. I think it will look better with the bottom part of the bumper meshed, I think its the vertical rows of the cooler not being totally vertical that make it look that bit wonky. Have you got an ACT gauge?

Just been looking through the first few pages of this post, tending towards smoked rear clusters looking at the pics of yours. Need to find a cheap pair off ebay or something though.

Thanks mate - the rear lights were a great find on eBay, I've seen them go for cheaper than £50 though

The mesh should solve alot of the looks issue yeah - you're right, but I'll get it straightened up a bit as well but mapping is going to come first

Mapping is now booked (initially) for Saturday next weekend depending on whether Grove have any problems with the cars they have in during the week for mapping.

ACT gauge is plumbed in and working - just have to finalise fitting to angle it for reading when driving

Alcon clutch is in - it's a bit juddery when pulling away but you can compensate for it with the throttle easily enough, makes a whooshing whine noise when you change gear and seems more than man enough for the job

I've topped it up with Optimax this afternoon and was enjoyable even if the engine is as lumpy as a dead body in a rolled up carpet

I'm going to do some little bits and bobs to it during the week like - fitting mesh to lower hole added in bumper, wiring in my Kenwood tweeters and re-installing my foldout touchscreen for the carputer

Anything above 230bhp really mate, will depend on how well the head flows and what the rods can handle on the bottom end.

I'll be leaving the spec. like this for a while when it's mapped - should be a good strong torque figure to go with the bhp though as well

Tapered shape to aid air flow in/out of the end tanks.

They've changed the design of the cooler now so that the top end tank is horizontal with a diagonal slash down at the far end (opposite side to the inlet/exhaust depending on what turbo config. you're running).

Unfortunately it's longer than that - Grove are a bit inundated at the moment so the mapping of my car has been put off until next week which is a bit of a bummer, but I've got a new runaround to start tinkering with so I'm still pretty happy

That's right! Well pleased, although it's not the most practical of daily driver's I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze FRST bits in the boot!

I'm going to get to work on those updating bits you suggested before - although I'm keeping the spotlights as they actually help when driving round some of the roads around here!

Those lights being removed makes the biggest difference IMO. I love the 90'Spec front bumper!
