Re: my new runaround
few updates,
bought myself the eibach spring kit in work, (fords)
the strange thing is although i had employee discount:dance:
fords are cheaper than most car suppliers for these springs £120 inc vat
next up i bought myself brand new st150 sideskirts, which come complete with clips and jacking point covers all in primer
in the spraybooth ready for paint
the paint combination for frozen white before being mixed
skirts painted

Re: my new runaround
in the process of being fitted, decided to bond using the original clip points,
did'nt want to drill my sill's especially as i have a sunroof which drains into the sill's, otherwise it would'nt be too long before the rust appeared no matter how we could try to seal the holes
the final pics of the skirts on,
just lowering springs and colour coded mouldings/handles to come very soon

Re: my new runaround, updated 17/03/09
a bit more progress and nearly happy with my new runaround,
all my mouldings and handles have been sprayed,
just waiting to have them put on
the last week and a half of having the st150 sideskirts has really made the car look a bit lower etc
but still had the ford approved eibach spring kit to go on
so thanks to a mate wolze who made some time to get these bad boys on,
the handling feels slightly stiffer, less body roll and lowers the car nicely with no problems over speedhumps etc
they've not had time to settle yet, but noticed the main drop is on the front

Re: my new runaround, updated 1/4/09
well it was time to find out what my car is doing power wise in standard form,
book figures for the 1.6 tdci are
90ps (88bhp) and 150ft lb torque
went to the opening day for new local rolling road 'Got Boost Tuning'
after a power run the results were
99bhp and 168ft lb torque, so i was very happy since i've only done 3500miles in her so far

Re: my new runaround, updated 14/4/09 rolling road
well i've wanted to do this for ages,
finally grown some balls and did it today
been looking like this for a while
so headlights off
filters broken into bits so they could fall out of the hole for the main h4 bulb
without the filter, then remember'd i'd need some silvatec bulbs which flash amber, so a quick trip down halfords sorted that
all in properly including the proper bulbs
after a wash

Re: my new runaround, updated 31/5/09 new pics
something thats always annoyed me since lowering this car,
is how far in the arches the rear wheels sit and lowering the car showed this more
so after debating for sometime i bite the bullet and bought some
20.5mm rear axel spacers as used on the ford racing puma
how far in the arches the wheels are
wheels off
the four bolts holding the drum to the rear beam
ford axel spacer (note the groove which allows room for the abs sensor)
a rough estimate of how much needs to be taken off the new longer bolts
heres one i made earlier

Re: my new runaround, updated 31/5/09 new pics
heres them back together with the spacer extending the rear drum/stub axel out
(so no extra stress on the bearings like when using normal spacers)
the handbrake had gone very tight as the spacers are extending the drums out and making the cable tighter, so had to loosen the handbrake slightly
so off with the handbrake cover inside the car
above the handbrake itself you can see a small 10mm bolt
i adjusted this to loosen the handbrake off enough so that the wheels could turn freely again and happy days
the finished article

Re: my new runaround, rear axel spacers 2/7/09
earlier this month i arranged for a trip to RS tuning in leeds,
seen loads of good write ups from the fiesta boys, so set off early in the morning
clean car ready for the trip
was prepared for the 500mile all round trip that day
arrived at RS tuning
up on the rollers and getting the strapped down
all linked up to the laptop, check everything was ok, read the factory map etc
impressed with the size of the cooling available, was nice when running as it was 31degree's that day
doing my bit to keep the population of flies down
although the standard figure was down from a previous rolling road i was happy with the improvement the remap had made, 25bhp and 40ft lb of torque, with power coming in earlier and holding for longer
difference in results could be down to numerous things, high temps that day, also the fact dyno dynamic rollers dont calculate the drag which effects the flywheel figures, normally a preset figure is entered compared to dastek rollers
anyway still very happy as its changed the drive of the car completely and even improved my MPG
