Re: my new runaround, remap 28/7/09
time to upgrade the little 260mm discs as i'm used to better braking with my previous cars
so i've purchased some mondeo st220 calipers and mintex 300mm discs from a st170
i've ordered some mintex m1144 pads aswell but they've not arrived yet
so had the discs grooved by my dad already,
just waiting to have them nickle plated
also i'm going to fully refurbish the calipers aswell
so heres a pic of how they currently look before i start stripping them down

Re: my new runaround, brake upgrade 16/8/09
some more progress on the brakes which i'm hoping to have on the car before
castle coombe and TRAX this weekend
i had the calipers and carriers shot blasted by a good mate,
only problem was it was plastic blast and although it cleaned them up loads,
the rust was still there (no pics)
so popped them up to ian@godspeed brakes and he shot blasted them with aluminium oxide
and took all the rust off ready to be plated, here they are covered in WD40 as they'll start to rust otherwise
i took the calipers, carriers and discs down to the platers with some bad news ahead of me
apparently they've had problems with doing calipers recently as their cast and not a machine finish and said it was'nt a good idea,
so left the discs with them, hopefully pick them up friday morning,
so i decided to finish off the calipers myself, by this time there were a few black spots appearing on them,
so not risking the chance of rust coming back,
i gave them a nice coat of genolite (kills rust acidy stuff)
then i dried them and gave a few coats of high temp aluminium paint,
heres a before and after

Re: my new runaround, 300mm brakes 02/09/09
right the brakes are on, heres how it went
standard 260mm brakes, sensitive brakes as you'd expect from a new car,
but pants on a spirited drive as they tend to fade easily
i took the old calipers, carriers and discs off, then double check the thread fittings of the old calipers and new
looking good, so full steam ahead
next up was drilling the holes from a standard 10mm to 12mm so the new brake setup could be fitted
quick action shot llama
old discs vs new
all back together
looking much better behind the wheels, just need to bed them in now

Re: my new runaround, 300mm's fitted 7/09/09
well decided i wanted to stand out for a change for last weekend
as i went to castle coombe and trax in silverstone
although i like the mods i do and the differences they make to me,
to most people not into fiesta's it probably just looks like an ST lol
so decided to do something different and had graphics put on the mirrors and bonnet,
it is very marmite, although i've had lots of people approach me with nice comments,
i'm sure theres plenty out there that dont like it
but oh well cant please everyone, i dont intend having them on for long, maybe three weeks at most
so here she is at castle coombe
and at trax (pic taken by a good mate with a much nicer camera)

Re: my new runaround, graphics 8/09/09
thought i'd update this as i've been busy with other things and not online much
bought this for the diesel
compared with the standard filter
suprisingly made a nice difference, seems more responsive and does'nt feel so strangled at high revs
next up was some uprated mintex m1144 pads for my 300mm brakes,
looking forward to these as just the upgrade to 300mm brakes has made such a difference
(the fiesta has a safety option where the hazard lights flash under REALLY hard braking
it never happened on the standard setup, but was coming on all the time with the 300mm's
so that had to be switched off)
got myself a new interior light aswell as i dont have map lights
so after being in a few focus st's i noticed the submarine lights (orange led's) which i've also seen on bmw's aswell
so most have alarm sensors built in aswell
so found this option in work without sensors so going to try this

Re: my new runaround, updated 4/10/09
well little update,
mintex m1144 pads are on and working well,
they dont live up to my expectations after having the ferodo ds2500's on my previous 106
but still an improvement over standard pads, VERY dusty though
not done much else, except the bonnet stickers were taken off about two weeks after trax
but left the mirror ones for now
went up to brecon for a random last sunday, so heres a few pics from the day
some near treorchy

Re: my new runaround, updated 21/10/09
lol i was about to say aint that in brecon on the builth wells way by the resevour
car is stunning mate so sutble and im supprised how well the diesel reacts to modding, i mean the remap and you have a 120~ bhp figure thats just mental lol, imagine if ford were to remap or betterly set up every ecu per indivual engine they would be selling much more powerful cars from the start off, but i guess it takes away the fun of the owner doing it
really impressed some fez 1.6's struggle to make 126bhp and you achieved it after just a remap lol
think this should be a little more than just a run around mate
and i was gonna ask where bouts in bridgend you live mate? been trying to reconise some of the locations like that coast shot i aint a clue, was it looking out at swansea or cardiff way?
i think ill remember that gotboost place, nice to know theres a dyno so near to home handy in the future that
keep it up mate loving it, such a good read

cheers mate she's not bad for my everyday, wish i'd bought it years ago
as for doing well after a remap, most modern common rail turbo dervs respond well to a remap
as manufacturers restrict engines on purpose to meet certain criteria for the cars
like the fact that this does 55mpg and £35 a year tax,
i live in litchard in bridgend if you know it mate? not far from the prince of wales hospital
the coast shot is between ogmore by sea and southern down
craig@gotboost is a good lad, drop him an email before if you ever plan on popping down yourself,
as he works in the ford engine plant aswell
sw-cc.com will be holding a rolling road day there early next year, best time to go really much cheapness!!

ha! was just reading that and i didnt notice it, i didnt attent the show myself, but for somereason i found myself in the clubs after meeting where i found that they werent very happy with pembrey, notibly the fact the refused passengers for the track
they might use llandow next year!, should be good either way, but hopefully pembreyc an pull theyre finger out with some other issues they had also
my dad presneted the RSOC a cheque from air ambulance wales, was in a picture in the papers
was it a good show?
