Alright mate, it depends on how far you wanna go but a good place to start is with an induction kit and a decent exhaust. If you want a lot more power then the best way is to get a new engine as the 1600 zetec doesn't respond to tuning that well. I went for an RS1800 engine and slotted it straight into my Si. It's got loads more power now. My engine mods are

RS1800 engine transplant
Scorpion induction kit
Superchip
NGK Platinum plugs
Powerflow stainless exhaust system.

I'm well happy with the performance & it's a fair bit quicker than an Si now.

RS18 engine cost me £250 and I fitted it with a mate, chip was about £200, Induction kit was about £80, exhaust was about £230 and the uprated clutch was about £200.
