My wheels Rub!!!!

well, it seems that my problems are caused by the front of the car being about 1.5" lower than the rear. I've been in contact with the folk that supplied the suspension kit, and I have been told to go and do some measurements to see if there is (!) a problem with the ride height...

Apparently, if the rear is lowered a bit more, the car should sit better and the front arches should not rub.

I'll keep you all informed when I hear any more (cos I can tell you are all interested!! ha ha ha)

S'later
Mike

just a mention about which wheel sizes rub and which dont- all cars are not built to exact tolerences, close, but no two cars will be exactly the same for instance, on renaults, the wheel base can vary by as much as 0.5" between each side of the car!
then again it could just be 'cos it's French tat
anyway, you get my point, no 2 cars are the same so i guess its just a case of trial and error!

Well, I finally took the plunge and got myself some nice alloys - Fox4 (7x15") with 195/45 tyres.

Now, every small bump I go over causes the tyres to rub on the arches! I know from reading other posts on teh site that this means I have to get the arches rolled...

How much (roughly) is this going to cost me??

Also, anyone know of any good bodyshops near Aberdeen that will do this?? (We only have a poxy Halfords up here - no Ripspeed "as yet" and so they won't do the arches for me!)

Cheers
Mike

15" wheels with 195/45 tyres should not rub. check other posts, you only need to start modding arches if you go up to 16's
any1 who says only 16" need mods are wrong, after lowering my 15s needed serious rear arch mods,

chk out www.fm-design.co.uk/fiesta

it tells how i did it in the exterior section, did it myself and saved myself a few bob + i knew it was done proper, i have heard about the tyre pulling rolled arches back down, and unrolling them :-) just make sure your bodyshop know what they are doing, plus if u do get em rolled keep em clean as the weatherlip will catch all the road s***e and then rust like buggery.

Fraser

Halfords told me that. Maybe they wanted me to buy them, then they would offer to roll arches etc for more cash. BTW is £630 for a set of OZ 15" wheels with 195/45 tyres fair?? [ERRR] that's what Halfords are charging.

I got some 15" OZ wheels today with 195/45 tyres. Wheels didn't rub with 3 people and a boot full of shopping. Car isn't lowered. I thought it would look silly without being lowered, but it doesn't look too bad so I'll leave it until I've got more money!!

Louise.

I've got 15's on my feezy and its been slammed 60mm, I don't get any rubbing at all. Although the exhaust does scrape the speed bumps. Still too high at the back though.
FIESTAKINGFISHER, lower was the best thing I ever did to the car and really seems to set other mods off.

I am gonna lower the car, but can't afford it at the moment, [ERRR] car is going for a respray in a few weeks time. I'm gonna lower it with my student loan money at the end of April.
Louise.
what like Mikey, i saw you car outside checkpoint, is that where you got your wheels? i used to have the 6.5 x 15 escort wheels on my van and it was as low as i could get it and the wheels never caught the arches, best thing to do is check that they've sold you the right offset off wheel, my vans over at king street auto body getting a few bits done to it includeing the arches, get them to give you a quote.

Not bad Graham! Yourself?

Yeah, got the wheels at checkpoint as they were nice & cheap! I asked if the wrong offset was causing the problem and they told me that they were the correct fitment.

I think it is just th eplastic clip for the arch liners that they are catching on, so I will just smooth off as much of it as I can.

My springs are being replaced to see if that lowers the back any!! (cos it looks fu(kin' stoooopid riding up in the clouds!) If that doesn't help, I'll try and get the company that sold them to me to refund them and I'll get some -50mm PI springs or something.

When will your car be back on the road? Where did you get your RST engine fitted? And how much did it cost for the conversion?

Mike

Hoping to get my van back on the road for the middle of april, the bodyshops a bit busy just now because of all the bumps during winter. I did the engine conversion myself in my garage, bought a damaged fiesta turbo and just swapped all the bits over, the engines already got a Kent fast road cam in it, i bought a new hybrid turbo and a chip for it so it should be quite quick! i'll give you a race when it's back on the road.

Oh well it was worth a try, have to find somebody else instead. If you ever get the chance of buying FRST running gear for your car, go for it, i'm a mechanic to trade and would easy do the conversion for you, for a small fee that is!

All you realy need is the engine, radiator, intercooler, exhaust etc, not sure if the wiring looms are the same but its not that bad a job to swap them over, i've seen the complete lot advertised in the autotrader for about 600-800 quid, just have to phone round some breakers to find out

The best thing about buying a complete written off car is that you can always hear it going first & you've always got extra bits you can sell to try and get some money back.
