My white XR2 is no more!!! (PICS)
As some of you know and some of you dont my project XR2 was almost done with just a few bits of bodywork to be done...once in the body shop all the kit was removed to reveal what the pics show below!!! Due to this I had to decide upon scrapping it and looking for another car!
See for yourself!
My new car is as below and has done a genuine 45k miles and is solid as a rock! (thank god)
and today with some assitance and decent tools we mananged to strip the car completely, fit the bucket seat and steering wheel, new door cards and fit the leda suspension which makes it handle UNREAL now!

Damn! That's bad. That's the problem with XR2s, the bodykit hides a lot of damage. I had 2 of them and luckily I didn't have that problem, but a friend had a D Reg and when he stripped it down, it was almost as bad as that. Yet, with the kit on it looked almost mint. I heard the later XR2s suffered badly becuase Ford built too many to sell and many of them sat in fields for a while. So basically if you bought an F plate it could have been well over a year old! Not sure of the truth in that, but it would explain why the later models seem to rot more than the early ones.

Nice one mate!
Good luck with the new one.

Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

What a nail.
The new one looks nice. Bet the XROC wouldn't be happy to see such a pristine Mk2 taken apart. Still, I can't talk!
Looks the dogs mate.

Mate, I'm a little confused as to how exactly you managed not to notice this until you took the kit off.... didn't you notice the fish breeding in your boot?
New one looks mint though, nice find.

Obviously those hole were kncoked in with a hammer but thats only cos it was rusty...I knew there were some rusty bits there thats why it was in the bodyshop...BUT I didn't know it was THAT bad..hence why I was mortified and have now had to totally gut that car...get all the bits I wanted off it...(poly bushes, suspension, brakes etc) and then strip the other new one. LOTS of hassle and time...
...Graham I know what you mean mate I feel bad about doing it to an extent but then I have another mint one that is staying totally standard thats only done 60k miles. PLUS the new one is being kept in a garage that I have just got hold of so will probably better looked after...
...and as a final thought bollox I want my track car

Typical xr2 im afraid - its getting very hard to find good xr2's now- i looked at loads for my mk2 track car but ended up buying a 1.1 L auto with 18000 miles on the clock and the shell is like new !!
What engine are you planing on putting in your mk2 ??

my mates had 2 xr2's now, one was a uk car and one was a german model.
the english models suffered badly from rust whereas the german built models were much better.
dunno what the difference was tho
good luck with the new project Dave

Cheers guys!
Yes your right in that foreign steel was better than ours as I recall so ones built elsewhere are less prone to rust.
The two I have now are mint but its cost me a fair bit to get them and has proved to be a lot of hassle but I guess it will all be worth it in the end...
...as for the engine, CVH on twin 45's, steel H section rods, race cam, quaife ATB and custom gearbox, ap racing clutch. So should be fine!

Will it be at FITP next year? We'll have to have our own Motorsport Section
R U going to remove all the sound deadaning stuff from the floor? Worth the effort. I had bin bags full of the stuff. Very heavy, and easy to remove just by levering it off with a screw driver.

Graham well ahead of you mate!
all the matt sound deadening is out and the ones stuck to the floor are all almost out...after that comes the carbon fibre body parts! (or fibreglass if they prove to be to expensive)
and then theres the perspex!
and yes I will be at FITP next year with Fordsport so if your on stand with us then we can park them together and have a mini motorsport section! lol
Its rapid as it is! (in effect the same setup as a stockhatch xr2)

I'd better get the hole punch out then and start making mine in to a swiss cheese.
Your alloys are probably lighter than mine too. Have you fitted them yet?

Dave, guttin 2 c that, but 1 question: dint u c the rot wen u took the kit off 2 spray it?
btw, bout the swiss cheese comment: My m8s dad has a rally car (lil metro, nowt proffesional ) and his interior jus isnt there, loads hole in every consevable sheet of metal. Got a roll cage so safety isn't an issue, but if this is done, is the road legal, will it pass the MOT?
