Oranoco :It' because it's made of tinfoil and crisp packets  The fiesta is made of metal (with rust and filler as well usually)

 Ive seen french cars stand up to a crash better than Fords do.

[quote]

Seriously if you were to spend a day at where i work you'll see how crap some french cars are in a crash, imo 106's/saxo's are the worst. :)

Anyway the XR2i is looking much better :D

Oh yes :D

I've been tempted to say something for a bit  The rest of the car looks wrong for the current one. A standard one will make it look a hundred times better :D

i agree mate, trying to get hold of one at the moment, hopefully in the next few weeks i should be fitting a standard bonnet :) :) :) :)

in the meantime though i was on ebay the other day and saw bonnet raisers for £2, bargain i thought, they came this morning...

Image

went outside and took a pic of the car without them fitted

Image

then a few minutes later i had them bolted in place and the outcome is shown below

Image

Image

hopefully should help keep the underbonnet temperatures down, more function over looks in this case but it will look tons better when the standard bonnet gets here :D

this morning i got woken up by a man with an extremely large package :bonkers: . i was delighted to find out it was my bargain bonnet from ebay.....£1 :D

its far from perfect, has scratches and is sparkling black colour instead of flat black but i can sort that out when i come to respray it.for £1 im not complaining too much. :)

i fitted it this moring and it looks soooo much better, even with the scratches etc...

It's mad, but you're right, even with the scratches, it does look so much better!

I'm not sure I like the raised bonnet

Getting there though :D

cheers mate, ill get it resprayed sometime when ive got some money....

bonnet raisers are more of a practical experiment really, since i fitted the 4-2-1 manifold the engine bay gets so hot and ive had starter motor failure too many times so i figured if i raise the back of the bonnet the hot air has a way of escaping and fingers crossed will help the starter motor to work all the time :) its worked so far.

next thing...im looking into getting the standard 13" alloys

got my standard alloys the other day, many thanks to farooq, they are pretty much uncurbed and look mint. only had to replace one tyre. they have stopped any rubbing at all, and i think look just as good as the old wheels.

Image

considering standard mirrors, and orange indicators, but its only a thought at the moment, ill probably change my mind. black and orange look good together though..... :-?

i'd change the mirrors to be honest, IMO all aftermarket mirrors look rank...
decent set of mk3.5 or to keep it standard - the originals mk3s?
as for clear/orange - its down to your preference i personally like clear, but i can also like orange (for it's retro-ness)
good work with wheels and bonnet :D

cheers mate,

the DTM mirrors were on the car when i got it, but i sorted out getting some standard mk3 mirrors today, should be getting them in the next few weeks.
im planning on getting the blue bumpstrips and orange indicators after the mirrors.
then hopefully ill polybush the front and rear, after that ill start looking into more performance parts such as a kent cam and a quickshift gear linkage...

havent really changed anything on the car since the last post, apart from taking the bonnet raisers off because of the rain everyday and me worrying about it affecting the engine wiring or something, probably put them on when winter is ending.
Cleaned the car though and went out with my brother in his 106 rallye to take some photos, the rallye has improved loads since the last pics of it, it was off the road for 3 months after taking it to rallyday and having a little fun on the track.....we had to push it off though...but its had plenty of work done on it and is running nicely again now :)
All the parts to make mine standard have been purchased now, the mk3 mirrors, side mouldings, orange indicators and repeaters, just waiting for them all to arrive so the next update should show it in its full glory :aviator: anyway for now heres some evening pics....

cheers mate :D

the plans for the rallye vary from week to week, he either wants to make it a fast road car or start competing in road rallies, for which the regualations state the car must be only lightly modified, so until he has reached a decision on what to do its going to be staying as it is i think, currently it has group A head gasket, group A engine mounts, ashley cat-back exhaust and a K&N panel filter, and has had the rear stripped out and TRS harnesses fitted, very nice :)

got to bonnet back from being resprayed yesterday so thought id post a pic of it. they did a wicked job, all the scratches and dents have gone, it looks superb :D
that little bit of plastic that rs turbos dont have was only hanging on by one clip so i took it off too, since the last pics i have also put the original orange indicators and repeaters on, orange and black go so well together...

Image

also due to the continuing heat in the engine bay and not using the bonnet raisers because of the continuing rain at the moment i have invested in some more heatwrap for the starter motor, just thought id share a pic of that too...

Image

still to come blue lines and mirrors to finish off the exterior nicely :)

I think you're doing a great job bringing that back to standard on the outside, and the orange indicators really make a huge difference to me :)

The strange thing is, I really notice the XR2i 16v seats... I think some Recaros would look a lot better, although at the end of the day, which you prefer to sit in is more important! XR2i optional Recaros would be perfect if you still have the 8v door cards though

cheers for the comments, i would love some xr2i recaros, they are quite rare though, but would go better with the standard interior than the 16v seats....

As if my plans vary from week to week you goon. Whatever happens it will be used in competition, road rallies regulations are open enough anyway. Didnt want to modify it too heavily unless I wanted to enter any endurance events so its easy enough to put back. Also has an ashley decat pipe now, and some huge hella spots to go on the front :D

Car: 1991 Ford Fiesta RS Turbo

Postby hb69 on Thu Jan 18, 2007 12:42 am

just a small update really. At the moment im concentrating on sharpening everything up, ive started by sorting out the brakes, the standard equipment is sufficient for anything ive got planned for the car so i got some new discs

Image

i should be fitting them tomorrow hopefully. Along with the brakes ive been looking into another crucial element of the smooth running of my car, the cooling, and as the radiator seems to have seen better days, many of the fins are missing or distorted i have decided to replace it. Another standard radiator is fine for the kind of use the car gets.

Image
i shall update this thread when i manage to get these bits fitted.

i seem to be undecisive as to which direction i want to go with the car at the moment, ive been looking into various modifications, such as,

headwork, performance cam, rs turbo engine transplant, and bike carbs. As yet i seem unable to decide which of these will benefit most for the least amount of money, and continue to provide the same levels of reliability and fuel economy.........

Anyway.comments are always welcome

i managed to get round to fitting the new brake discs today, much better than the old ones :)

My brother is specialising in lens based media at university and as part of his coursework he asked to take moving pictures of my car (for a kind of magazine feature thing like in FF or similar). These are the best ones i think...
