My XR2i and Zetec S projects - UPDATE 25/11/11
Finally bought myself an XR2i
52k on the clock and a solid floor. bodywork needs touching up in a few places but it'll give me something to tinker with over summer
And yes, the mudflaps are going

Re: My XR2i
Its a little untidy close up. I originally turned it down after viewing it but went back and bought it today.
It'll be driven for a week to discover any niggles it has, then taken off the road for a bit of work over the summer
Already discovered an annoying tapping noise coming from the drivers door/inner wing area when driven at high speeds

Re: My XR2i
Popped to the scrappy today and got myself some bits of floorpan:
Spotted this too :
Back at home, i dropped the fuel tank, cleaned it up and gave it a lick of paint:
What a horrible job that was to remove. First rear bolt came undone fine, thought to myself "whats all the fuss about with these bolts?" Then the second bolt went on me - passenger side too so i couldn't see what i was doing with the spanner holding the broken nut on the top The "quick release" fuel coupling was far from quick to release either

Re: My XR2i
nice one with the bits of floor mate, will be easier to do now.
what they charge for them 2 bits? just remember not to use the old number from the scrap car mate
the quick release fittings on the fuel lines are spot on mate, you just got to take the covers off to get to the little tab
i say covers, if you had the "ford tool" you slip it in and job done, if not, break the covers off, and when refitting twist a bit of wire round the fitting to keep the push fitting out.
anyhow, its coming alone nice mate

£10 for the plates which included them moving the car for me. Cut them out myself with an angle grinder. My VIN plate is quite rusty underneath so i may have to weld it on top of the clean one - that'll look good if i ever come to sell the car
I remember reading on here about breaking the white tab off the fuel quick release but i struggled to get it to actually release. Wasn't helped by eye full of rust as i wiggled the pipes

thats a good price mate.
i would keep the bit of floor you cut out, and get a pic of the floor before, during and after, then you can back up the reasons as to why should anyone ask, not that they prob will, but after all, if its rusty its rusty.
when you break the covers off, push the pipe in a bit as if your pushing it back on, then hold the ring around the pipe against the fitting and slide it off, its easy once you have done it once you know how to do it

Re: My XR2i
Busy day today. Scabby bootlid removed and new one fitted . Had hoped to re fit the standard black spoiler but the RS one has been bonded on
Bumpers off too. Pretty tidy underneath rustwise, although i did find this:
I knew it'd had a slight bump on the front and that the n/s wing had been replaced, but, well thats a mess
Tidy rear panel:
And finally we towed it (due to no fuel tank) up some ramps so i can start on removing the rear beam and finish stripping the old underseal off
Hope to get the beam off tomorrow, bushes removed and all painted up ready for the poly bushes and anti roll bar

Just picked up some Flo-Flex poly bushes. 2x Rear beam bushes, 2x front ARB bushes and 4x rear ARB bushes
£35 for the lot
If anyones interested, they should be making some front wishbone bushes in the next 3-4 weeks

Re: My XR2i
Not done much to the XR recently. My fund was greatly reduced by the purchase of Green Day concert tickets too
However i picked up a 3" Magnex cat back exhaust from a member on here
Got a a pair of 16v door looms and multiplugs too as i'd like to try and relocate the window switches to the doors. Just a case of finding a pair of door pockets with the switch holes but in light grey. Will also need another set of 16v door multiplugs so i can add extra pins to the ones i've got
Made a start on making my lower arms camber adjustable too. Flo Flex should have some front bushes made by now so i'll get them ordered soon and then i can remove the rubber ones and seam weld the arms.
We'll hopefully have the shotblaster set up in work soon so i can get the subframes, S brace and ARBs, along with the lower arms blasted ready for painting - maybe even powdercoated if the price is reasonable

Re: My XR2i
Time for an update!
Not alot of work done as such due to not being able to get up to the car with this damn weather. Had started cutting out some of the rot on the inner arch and footwells.
Got quite a few parts picked up recently though:
15" Escort GTi alloys
Si ream beam with new brake shoes, cylinders and braided hoses
Polybushed arms. will remove the bushes to put in my adjustable arms
New front panel, wings and sills. Didn't think to check if they were mk3 or mk3.5 wings though, so might cause a problem using standard side repeaters Anyone know if the front panels are mk3/mk3.5 specific too?
My stock seems to be building up now

Re: My XR2i
Bought some G Max shocks and springs from someone on here.
Cleaned up and after a lick of paint. Needs another good coat as this spray paint is quite thin.
Decided to repaint the fuel tank as well. I didn't have my grinder when i first painted it so didn't prep it very well. Few months outside and it'd started to rust again. Subframe and crossmember have also been stripped back, treated with rust convertor and painted

Re: My XR2i
Bit of a change of plan with this. Was planning on doing the welding and underseal, then put it on the road in about a month, mainly because i miss driving a car. However it makes sense to do all the bodywork and get it painted while its already in bits, rather than have to strip it again in the future.
Going to clear the garage where i've been painting in so i can fit the car in there. Should be enough room to work in it in there
