love the progress mate, some good work going on,

cheers for that floflex site, ordered a set or front and rear arb bushes from it

they didnt do mk4 fez ones though lol, so mk6 escort fronts theyre typically the same as mine (i have a escort subframe in my back yard and measurements are the same on both models)

and i have a Si rear arb coming that im welding to my rear eam, so ordered some rear arb bushes too ;) £28 posted beats £30 for just front ones from other places

have you recieved them yet? do they seem just as good as other brands?

kepe it up mate looking forward to reading more :Q

I picked them up as flo-flex are only down the road from me. i've never had polybushes before so couldn't say if they looked like powerflex ones for example.

Well i've moved house recently so that threw a spanner in the works for a little while. No decent drive to work on (residential parking :( ) or even a shed to store stuff in. However my auntie who owns the garage i'm storing my parts in has kindly offered to let me put the car in there to work on :D

So here she goes. Bit of a sad day as my car was the last thing last at my old house :(

Image

Tucked away in the garage. doesn't look very big in the photo, but its quite long. Just need to move all my parts to my friend's garage that he's offered me so i can free up some space

Found some XR2i Recaros in excellent condition (bar a slight tear in the piping on the drivers seat) :D Worth the drive to Leicester to get them

Image

Now, i'm kind of in a dilemma of where to go with the car next. Once i had this garage sorted i decided not to rush getting it on the road and to do the bodywork properly and get it sprayed with the aim of having it ready for Ford Fair in August. However i think thats a little too soon. I'd have to get it painted around the end of june to give me time to get it all built back up in time.
So i'm thinking rather than rush it for the sake of a show which is also approching the end of summer anyway, why not keep working on it and think about a zetec turbo?

I'd prefer to do it properly. Hopefully i can pick up some bargains along the way.
I'm guessing the comp plate way wont run that much boost?

Finally did some work on the car rather than just buying bits for it

Got the engine out. Driveshafts were a right pain to get out. Ended up leaving the N/S one in till we got the engine out. Managed to spill half the gearbox oil everywhere while draining it too

Starting to think about buying my Zetec Turbo bits too and reserching which way to go with it. A friend of mine is happy to do the internal work for me so that means i dont need to go down the de-comp plate route. Still not sure whether to go with an RS1800 inlet or a Rover one.

lol oh ho, hate being asked these kinda stuff as id feel guilty if i under advised them :P

not sure tbh mate ive never owned a CVH but ive heard they dont go for very much due to the age of these engines, if it was the right price i might be interested as id like to use one of these engines for a future project :aviator:

Despite wanting to of got the bodywork all done - or at least the underneath, sills etc before starting on the engine, I'm still finding myself looking for - and buy bits for a Zetec Turbo.

I have a 1.8 sump and pick up pipe on the way, as well as an OFAB loom and ecu. Thinking of going down the Rover inlet route too. I feel a Rover one with a throttle body plate and Rover to Zetec adaptor plate welded on (which i can do in work) is better than trying to find injectors for a zetec manifold or fitting a mismatching cvh one.
I'll be getting the block bored out for low comp pistons rather than using a de-comp plate. Unsure of injector and turbo/exhaust manifold setup at the moment.

I'd like to be running somewhere around 200bhp. Dont want to go silly where it gets too much for road use. I want it to be drivable and suitable as a daily driver if i ever decide to sell my van.
Any suggestions on a good setup? A friend is selling a Focus RS cast manifold which means i could look at a GT2560LS or a T28. Or i could go down the Beige/T3 setup although i'm not sure if a T3 would get to 200bhp? (From reading Heeman's project thread)

werent you looking into making manifolds up at work? can you not manage to make up some custom primaries to a original zetec exhaust flange?
then making or using what ever turbo you'd use the orignal flange for it and then maybe a RST downpipe and system?

mind you using a focus RS manifold and standard turbo (although rather expensive id say) wopuld easily see you to 200+bhp

if i were you id go for closer to 250, would still be driveable, i mean plenty of guys using focus RS's as dailies with that power

leave it 2.0 or bore it to 2.1?

but it all sounds good to me mate, im sure someone on here is using a T3 or even the T2 and getting over 200bhp :-?

Yeah i can do a manifold in work as well as the down pipe, but if i can get a cheap FRS manifold it'd save me having to make one. I'd definatley make one for a T3 rather than tap the engine to fit an escort manifold.

I'd go for a 2.1 bore so i can fit 86mm pistons

Focus RS pistons are for 2.0 (84.8mm i think) But their only good on a new engine as the cylinders will of worn, hence the need of a rebore to 2.1 and use 86mm pistons

Remember the Focus is over 10 years newer with a more modern chassis, fancy diff, ABS etc.

The other problem with aiming for around the 250 mark is the increase in specialist (and more expensive) parts. I'd need more expensive injectors, stronger gearbox, uprated con rods, as well as definatley having to go for a larger turbo.

I feel i need to set myself a target and a plan rather than keep buying bits that may not work together or be unsuitable

amen to that, but according to ian howalls, the standard crank and rods are good for upto 300bhp, and so is the silvertop head, so im sure that erst lsd gearbox your interested in from rat would be upto the challenge of 250bhp
and beige injectors pop up often enough if you know where to look, but cranking the psi up a bit im sure the standard focus turbo would hold the pressure :-?

well im just saying theres always room for that little bit more :P surely that little compromise in drivablity is worth that more kick? :aviator:

Its food for thought though. Hopefully i can get some more recommendations on good setups.
The turbo is going to be my biggest cost, then theres the mapping. Need to get both of them right so not to need changing in the future

Update

Got a fair bit done today, although alot cleaner work than last weekends engine removal.
Last of the interior trim has been removed along with the dash. Must say it was alot easier than i thought (good guide on here helped). I'd prepared myself for the mass of wires behind the dash too :oooh:

Image

Image

Oh and i found a pound behind the dial surround

Image

Took all the windows out too. Started on the easier rear screen and worked my way round to the front. revealed a few spots of rust on the lips where the seals sit on both the front and rear :(

I used a screwdriver and just pushed as much of the rubber through from the inside before attempting to remove the glass. Start off in the middle of a straight bit so not to put too much pressure on a corner.
