my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
After some long waitingtoday was the day.. Phototime..
After finding a nice spot.. we took some pictures.. well.. some??...
Also tested my new camera (and polarising filter.. to remove the glare from windows etc)
Here are some examples
photo 1: .. een nice focus (-: .. hmm GB plates.. in holland ??
Photo2
Photo3 .. You could try and lie down...
Photo 4
Also the shiny bits onder the bonnet needed some attention
No pics (with my cam) of the boot install .. yet..
Photo 5
En for taking a shot of the plazma dials.. .. a sollution wasn't hard to find.. and it worked..
p.s. a known face behind the fester??

The 'forgotten' pictures of the boot install
The back of the backseats also has cloth on it
The 8" subwoofer only needs it's grill ... which Polk doesn't have in it's product line .. yet..(the same grill as the door speakers)
The stealth shelf also got a fresh layer of cloth .. even underneath.
The wiring of the speakers is re-done..
The composet in the door and dash
Thee tweeters in place..

After some thinking (will i do a double boot lift.. and hang the soundboard to the boot.. .. or will i but some bonrath soundlifts..
i came up with a 3rd sollution..
This didn't cost me loads of money ... or lots of modifying..
but .. has nearly the same result.
With a little help .. the soundboard (stealth shelf) stays in every position i put it in.. (-:
Like it's made for it.. :-p
1 of the 2 helpers.. A window 'damper'.. and it works just fine.
In stead of a fluid or gas filled damper.. this one uses just plain friction, which is adjustable
They already have a suitable colour :-p
Ps. Their phone pictures again ... because.. ehhm i had the phone closeby :-p

Ok, just days before my departure across the English channel .. but modded the brake setup.
After loads of pondering.. and finding out.. i finallay decided to change the brake setup.. why ?? well.. to keep a long story short.
I have a Cossie 4x4 setup on the front. Discs and callipers.. Spaced out the callipers by 6mm to get the offset right compared to the 278mm * 36mm disc. BUT i need a 10mm spacer to space out my Mondeo Alloy due to it hitting the calliper.
Due to this spacing out.. i have next to no centring hub left and i have a problem centring the alloy.
After some calculation .. Using the V6 mondeo discs (278mm diameter and 47mm of height) i had to 'adjust' just 11mm of offset..
Well 6mm was the easy one.. just remove the spacer of the cossie calliper (which is the same as a mondeo V6 '278mm' calliper)
Then i was left with 5mm. I Got the idea to space out the disc, in stead of just the alloy .. creating the correct offset.
That is in short what i've pondered about.. yesterday we did the modding itself.
Bought a set of 5mm spacers (with 4*108 offset) earlier, machined the diameter down to 130mm to fit inside the disc.
This picture is of a mates car though (who by chance had the same setup fitted without knowing there was a spacer behind the disc, until i got to take the brake off during my investigation :-p
Well.. why this picture, because"my "brother in law" had already fitted the disc back on before i could take a picture of the spacer fitted to my fiesta.
Bought a set of mondeo discs.. which turned out to be slightly thicker (at the mounting face) compared to the cossie disc.. so i just needed a 4mm spacer .. hmmz.. well we finally used a washer @ the calliper to correct this and set the final offset of the calliper correctly dead centre compared to the disc.
After hacksawing the threads down 6mm the alloy could be fitted.. and .. as expected.. it centered itself again..
All in all the alloy came back in 5mm .. but this was no problem...
I also had a set of goodridge brake hoses laying around. This was the right time to have them fitted.
The hoses i bought half a year ago are those of a escort MK5 RS2000, due to the rear disc setup i have done. The front hoses are a bit longer then the original fiesta ones though.
This turned out to be a small problem, after fitting them with the clip to the inner arch.. they were rubbing all over (to the tire, to the inner arch etc) After some adjustments (fixing them using the original rubbers to the shock.. and fixing some rubber hose to protect against rubbing.. it was done (-:
On the picture it is still fixed to the inner arch
The front hoses had a different fixing to the calliper, but this was not of a problem.
After the front.. the back was done.. as we already started bleeding the system (to get all the air out)
Also the read lines got the protective treatment.
Test driven it.. and it was working like a dream .. not rubbing, no shaking of the steering wheel (during driving above 50MPH) or even under heavy breaking..
This WAS the case when the alloy could be centred correctly (and was not due to wrapped discs)
Driving feels a lot more confident.... which is good (-:

Where did you get them lifters from, they look really professional...very smart touch.
As per, it's looking sexy, possibly one of the best all round Fiesta's I've seen for a long while.

Well.. could keep myself from buying anything @ FITP
After some adjustment of the original filler cap .. it fitted perfectly ..The Before picture
De After picture
Frontal view
All i need is the original fillercap surround .. otherwise you are left with a small gap between the filler cap cover .. and the body of the car

Can't wait..
A copy of the aug edition of FF fell on my doormat just yesterday (overseas always takes about a week longer)
Hopefully i receive the next copy some time earlier, otherwise you guys already read thru the whole mag . before i get to have my first look ..
I've already read the rough text though (to check some of the facts.. and where needed correct them) but haven't seen the pictures .. apart from the quick view on Michaels laptop..
Hope FF will send me the pics (after the release of the mag of course) on a CD/DVD as they promised.

Well.. nearly 6 months later .. an update..
We're nearly settled in our new house (still lots of things to do though)
But couldn't resist some offers i had..
1st offer.. .. well after my Optima Redtop has run flat once earlier this year.. it couldn't be fully charged anymore )-: .. the battery didn't cost me much .. so no problems...
But getting another battery for the fiesta was kinda hard..
As i didn't want this to happen anymore (having to replace the battery because it had run out of juice once) i wanted a Yellowtop.
My brother in law sourced one for me for a good price.. (-:
one problem solved.
The other offer just came in last night.
The fiesta of an acquaintance of mine had a small accident with his RS2000 powered XR2i. The bonnet wasn't fully closed, and when driving it had flipped onto the windshield. Result. Bonnet, window and roof damage.
He's now breaking the fiesta and selling it in parts.
Just half a year ago he had his 2 frontseats redone ..and offered them to me to buy.... and i couldn't resist.
Here's a picture of them still in his fiesta.
appart from these.. no new additions to the fiesta just yet..

Like Mr. Excursion said, needs a black carpet now
I don't think it would be so bad if the grey carpets in MK3s these days were actually still grey

Re: my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
New year... new mods..
For a long time it was a bit quiet around me.. and the fiesta.. but.. i'm not gone yet.
plans for this year:
- fixing the boot (some cracks )-: in the spoiler etc)
- getting a custum map from Ahmed Bayjoo (just before Ford Fair)
- getting some custom mods (some custom inox parts)
- getting my fresh callipers (front and rear) mounted..
- and probably some other bits and bobs adjusted
to start with the last..
Yesterday it dropped in the doormat.
One of the members of Fiestaclub.nl has access to a CNC machine and is able to make some NICE custom parts in Alloy, Inox, brass etc..
So i opted to create some inox rear quarter opening window caps (in stead of those rusty ones.. and maintenance free compared to the alloy ones sold on ebay ..)
and all i can say .. they are perfect!!!! and for nearly the same price the alloy ones go on ebay..
the pictures are a bit fuzzy (phone pics) but the result isn't
High quality and perfect fit... (measurements came from me :-p)
On fiestaclub.nl are now thinking about other items for this member make.. so if you have suggestions?

Re: my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
It's been quiet from this side of the english channel for quite some time now.
Been busy with my (our) little baby girl for some time.... so not really had the time to spend on the fiesta..
But ... a few updates:
Fitted a Laguna splitter underneath the MCR splitter (-: Now it sits just 3" from the ground.. enough for the speedbumps.. just have to be carefull when driving in reverse (when getting it out of the garage.)
Also ordered a new Custom chip.. and received it last week (thanx to Stu (-: ) It's a Custom MSD... which will get me to .. or just over the 200 mark .. with my 'standard' 1.6 engine.
It still has to be fitted, but have to have my beiges (ultronisc) cleaned first.
Apart from those changes.. nothing happened since my last update.. i know.. it's not much.. but better then nothing :-p

Re: my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
Today was the big day,
Received the MSD custom chip a month ago, but my local tuner was fully booked until today.
Arrived around 9AM,
[ERRR] was planned.
- baseline powerrun (What would the current setup do)
- modification to MSD chip and beige injectors
- powerrun to compare the new setup to the old one.
- If applicable, adjust boost pressure, fuel pressure, and camshaft timing.
But it didn't go as planned.
Baseline powerrun gave 'just' 147,4BHP and 204Nm of Torque @ 10PSI (and a WAY to rich mixture)
Corrected the fuel pressure (back to standard) and tested again, 160BHP and later 180BHP @ 14,4PSI
Then placed the beige injectors and MSD custom chip.. and.. 'just' 160BHP .. The fueling was way off (To rich in the lower revs, to lean in the higher revs) .. Also the ignition was retarted quite a bit. (qouting my the local tuning engineer)
After talking with the engineer, the original injectors were returned, and the 175 Ahmed Bayjoo chip... and checked again.
Adjusting the camshaft (from '0') to gain another 17,5 BHP, to top it off.
Endresult on standard injectors 198,5BHP@5465RPM and 289NM@4382RPM Crank power. ..(within the safety of the mixture levels)
The new chip.. didn't suit my engine, eventhough it was mapped to specs.
Spoken to MSD (wow what a quick response to email) , and it's probably due to some restriction in the flow of the engine causing this odd behaivior,
MSD will take back and refund the chip (thanx MSD .. this really keeps my wife happy)
I had loved to have this chip running in my engine correctly.. but it''s probably not my or my engines time yet ....
But the current figures are nothing to be ashamed about
The current figures.. i'm happy about (-:

After setting up the engine (resul 198 BHP and 289NM of torque (some 240LB/ft) engine wise not much has been done. As we had bought a house, with garage, we had a lot of work to do rebuilding the place
Garage is now insulated (and well ventilated) so the fiesta has a dry place to stay
The house renovation is nearly completed (need some new windows and roof-gutters )or whatever you call them) replaced. The rest is done (kitchen, bathroom, floors, insulation, heating etc)
I've been collecting some tuning parts over the few years for the MK3.
Been tidying the MK6 facelift ZS of the wife (with Eibachs, Milltek, Ultra rear lamps etc) but recently traded that one in for a brand new 11 Fiesta 1.25 82BHP 5 door Titanium fiesta.
For the mk3 i've collected since 2008:
- Powder coated gearbox beam and fixings
- ERST S2 Gearbox, recently rebuild (only covere 1000 miles since) which is nearly ready for some paint (the current gearbox has been rebuild 2 times since i have it, but for some reason lost 1 liter of oil.. causing the 5th gear to whine, and the 3rd gear to select hard or crunchy (synchro mesh gone probably) .. but will not be able to rebuild it anymore, cause 5th gear has been welded to the shaft (as i was told) .. everything else is OK in the gearbox, and still drives well, until the oil in the gearbox gets to operation temp. ...
- bought some items to modify the clutch pedal
- Straight FRST doorcards which DO fit without opening at the top.
- spark plugs (a full box of 10 as they didn't want to sell me just 4)
- cambelt (already replaced)
- Some new clear side repeaters
- Some new clear indicators
- Another set of white rear lamps (modified again, but now without drill dust)
- Set of ST150 brakes... already fitted, painted calipers (silver) and new pads. (need to solve a small issues on these still)
- Polk DB08 grill for the 8"sub
- chrome bonnet hinges
- chrome (dual) boot cylinders. I modified the boot to have the 2nd cylinder on the left so the boot closes straight and when the car is repainted, the polyestered rear spoiler won't crack anymore.
.. now i need to find some time to get all of this fitted, but as it going to be repainted as soon as it's mechanicly ok... (-:
Owh, newest plans:
- Pickup a quickshift on the way to this years ford fair
- pick up a clutch pedal mechanism @ ford fair
will have a look @ ford fair for other nice bit's, but as budget is already gone before i enter the premises, that will probably turn out to a hard task..

Re: my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
Just got back from FF
We left friday afternoon @ 14:00, and had some traffic going around Antwerp (BE), but had no issues after that. Gotten to the ferry @ Calais in time for the ferry of 18:05 towards Dover.
Gotten in Dover around 18:30 (1 hours differenct) , but the journey towards one of the Ford Fair camp sites (with the M25 disaster accident happening just 2 hours before we got to the M25 from Dover) took us some 3 hours longer then expected.
As i had a meet up with RS220BHP to pick up a Quickshift we had to go clockwise.
We ended up not taking the standard diversion (as expected this was all STUCK on the A roads) But gotten of at Ashford from the M20, driving the A28 and A281 towards Crawley.
Great trip over the A roads, seen a lot of souther england this way (-:
We tried to go north to the standard diversion (by M23) but this was not a good idea afterwards.. as this took us another hour, for only 2 miles or so. So in stead we took the B roads (i know.. B roads.. in the dark.. when not used to driving on the left side of the road can be tricky.. but we managed to 'skip' the queue in 10 min.. by some 6 or7 miles or so.. .. and left with only a queue of 1.5 miles towards J8.
From there it was a near empty M25...
After the (3 hours later then expected) meet up with RS220BHP, we went up north M25, M1 (yet again.. road works and traffic.. @ 23:00 friday night .. and ended up at the camp site just in time as they wanted to close down the access for the night.
After pitching up the tent and a few beers and BBQ.. we went to sleep.
The next day more and more people arrived. A i was just a passanger in a car. no cleaning for me this year (-: (of course i helped out a bit here and there)
We had an issue with picking up the tickets, as in stead of sending out the tickets like they used to.. we didn't receive them in time.. and had to pick them up @ Silverstone.
But send here.. and there.. no tickets.. so had to pick them up sunday morning 7:30.
A few or more beers later.. we went to bed.
The next day 7:15 we drove from the campsite, (thru some villages) towards the circuit, not following the signs (-:
Kept the right lane, as the ticket office was further up the lane then main entrance, skipping all the queue's as there were none for the ticket office.
And head to the entrance after receiving the tickets.. without any queues.. (the queue's were al along the A43 already)
parked up the cars @ the clubstand wich was very good, and loads of room. (We were right accross the Ford.co.uk stand.. and next to the toilets)
As i had some items up for sale i generated tome extra money to spend, and bought some Poly strut top bushes from flo-flex and some gel badges for the new fiesta we have.
@ 16:00 we've gotten ready to leave.. and ;eft the premises @ 16:30. Just 4 hours from the planned ferry back @ dover.
And.. we hit traffic on the M1.... the SatNav guided us around it and wen clockwise again on the M25.
We arrived at dover just close to an hour to spare.
Eventuallt gotten home @ 3:30..... at night ..
A wonderfull weekend ... spoken to loads of people, met up with some of here ... and seen a lot of ngreat things.
Maybe again next year (-:

Sounds good, Jur - such a shame you hit what was probably the worst traffic jam ever recorded on the M25!
Have you got any photos from FF?

Re: my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
@ Excursion: Not uploaded any foto's from FF, didn't make that much this year though .. more of the day before (on the Whittlebury campsite)
The old gearbox which had some whining 5th gear, defective 3rd synchro mesh.. due to a massive oil leak which we did't see in time )-: .
Today was the day of fitting the freshly painted ERST S2 gearbox (with LSD off course) which had been laying around in the garage for 1.5 years.. It had been fitted to a friends XR3i before and only did 1000 miles after reconditioning.
The process of cleaning and painting.. which i started since we've gotten back from FF.
Dirty, with only the top cleaned..
After the first clean (break cleaner a toothbrush and a lot of paitience) :
After the 2nd clean (breake cleaner)
The first coat of paint (hamerite silver) didn't paint the top cover yet.
The second coat of paint
Bought a B&M shifter on my way to FF
Modified it with 25mm*10mm vibration dampers
Already had bought a new gearbox cradle (powdercoated) from a dutch forum friend.
(new vs old)
Time to fit:
My brother in law (a ford 1st mechanic) fitted it .. (and i helped out off course.. i'm not scared to get my hands dirty, but he is so much quicker them me (-: thanx bro.
Including the shifter
As we had time left we also got a look around to the Poly Urathane Strut top rubbers bought at FF
It was pretty hard to fit, as i already had the poly urathane arm-bushed fitted.. But with a special tool to pull down whishbones.. it was done quite quickly
And.. fixed the braking issue i had. (the calipers were not fitten straight due to the mounting face of the HUB not being big enough for the ST150 brakes..causing the pads to not touch the disc fully, So grinded some off.. and now the pads DO use the whole surface of the disc..
A picture prior to grinding. The ridge (which wasn't machined away) is clearly visible, we had to grind away that ridge, to enlarge the mounting surface.
So for all you are doing the ST150 brake conversion .. check if the mounting surface of you hubs compared to the calipers lineup correctly .. otherwise you will get the same as i did.. .. which results in spongy feeling on the pedal and sqeeucky/hanging brakes,
Next.. a good wash and wax (it has been sitting in the garage for a year now.. due to above 2 issues (gearbox and brakes)
After that..
The clutch pedal modification (Ford had written a TSB about it) so that the automatic clutch adjustment can be locked into place.
This is adviced for all fiesta's with a 'clicking' clutch pedal.. but especially when using a heavier clutch (AP CP2000-8 for instance) as this mechanism seems to wear out fast when clicking every time. By locking the automatic adjustment, it will not click (and wear) anymore.
Downside, you'll have to release the adjuster, have the automatic adjuster do it's work and lock it back again every service interval .. but that's a 1 minute job.
But that's something for after the show season.
