my XR2Tii project.. ..*BIG PIC*
What to do with a day off..
right.. go work on the fiesta
Left from home around 6:15 in the morning (near Rotterdam, Holland) and after a trip of around 2 hours.. we arrived in Belgium@Skytune
It seemed to be to early for those guys because they were a but grumpy at first ..
To bad there was no coffee and the heater was off.. .but.. the fun just started (-:
Drove the Fez on the "bridge" (dont know the english word for it) .. on which is nearly hit the bottom. and with the use of a small jack.. the arms of the 'bridge' were put in place.. and the car could be lifted.
The mechanic popped the bonnet .. and was looking for the battery.. and couldn't find it.. after a small hint . he found it in the boot. He installed some sort of safty device when welding
In the mean time my Girlfriend shot some pics of the chosen end pieces
The backbox was off within 10 minutes and the mechanic started to look, measure and modifying the exhaust mount before you can say "Fiesta"
This was the result of that ..
We had several 'sound' options.. but this wasn't a hard choice.. not to load.. just a humble rumble.. No Jap style, or some overdone sound .. and that is just [ERRR] we got.
Not 2 .. but just one box.. which splits the gasflow in 2 internally. With this.. both left and right are equally long.. and will flow nearly the same amount of gas.
With the use of some wire (to get an idea of the bends) and a pipe-bender.. this is the result
And what it looks like when it's finished!!??.. well?? .. soon you will know
The gents of Skytune have done a great job
A bit TO precise maybe.. (the mechanic even noticed a 1mm difference in width and 3mm difference in hight in the openings of the bumper) but it looks perfect.
The endpieces were placed on the exact position using some pegs to hold them in place compared to the rear bumper.
And i wouldn't be dutch to mention it was around 200 pounds cheaper than their collegues here in Holland...It even was 1 hours less driving!!
well .. near ready for FITP (-: See you there

I can see what you're doing there, very neat
We call the thing your car was on a 'ramp' or '4 (or 2) post lift'.
How come things are cheaper in Belgium then? Do you have some kind of sales tax in Holland?

Thanx for the right words .. it was a 2 post lift... with 4 arms :-p
And what the reason is the belgian company was 200 pounds cheaper.. well .. i guess that's because the dutch company thinks it has a unique position in the dutch market .. a matter of demand and supply i guess..
high demand.. little supply and not much competition raises the prices..

I noticed all my picture links have gone )-: due to a change on the serverside of my source.
but.. then again .. i have been busy again ..
after FITP we took some time off ..
But recently after the EFE show begin september (A European Ford Event @ Landgraaf Holland) we changed a few things..
First of all .during the trip to and from FITP i had a slight smell in the car after a 20minutes drive.. it has gotten worse since .. and time to check it out..
Also my pedal box was falling apart (a clip had moved.) so had to put that together..
And also when hot.. my starter motor didn't work properly
Bought myself a set of inox braided brakes hoses. and .. finally some Phonocar doorpods to fit 165mm speakers.
Back to the smelly problem:
all we changed to the electrics was the move of the battery to the boot.. using a 20mm2 power cable.. apperently this wasn't enough (also for starting the engine .. it gave some small problem)
due to the power drop over the length of cable .. i only had a low voltage to work with ..
A low voltage .. but the same power.. means more current.. burning away one of the relays.. (no .. not the one for the fan)
By adding an extra 20mm2 front - back i solved the powerdrop problem .. and this the cause of the burning relays..
I also fixed the relays .. and it should be all fine now..
Also the pedal box is fixed.. with a new clip
After all this problems.. it was time to do some funstuff :-p
so started working on the boot..
What i want to achieve..
On the left .. the battery in it's own casing.. with just behind the rear seats a compartment for some tools, the tyre fixing bottle etc..
Topping it off with a lid.. possibly with window to show the battery itself ..
At the right.. in the same shape as the left.. a 8" of 10" subwoofer.
In the middle.. well .. i have gotten my hands on a tray specially for the Fiesta MK3.. i cut this up and used the bottom .. this shows a relief Ford logo with and some other reliëf shapes..
All this woodwork will get a cloth coating ..
and now.. the pictures..

Love the idea of having all your road side tools in a seperate compartment in the boot as part of the actual install - I was planning something similar with a little storage box for stuff like a wheel brace, couple of spanners, first aid kit etc etc just in case of emergency.
Once again, you never fail to amaze me with the amount of hard work you put into this motor, and boy does it show [/jealousy]

started doing some things again ..
appart from fixing some scorched wires (in the fusebox)
which was fixed earlier
bought some phonocar doorpods on the Dutch XR/RS show in september for some 25 quid. (see Fast Ford december issue for some pics of the show.. to bad none of my car) ..
Also bought some steel enforced goodridge brakelines (RS2000)from nomad racing for my fiesta with cossie front.. and rs2000 rear setup .. but that is not mounted yet.
Managed to fit the doorpods recently .. had to cut my doors to be able to fit some 6,25" speakers .. but for now my 5" speakers are fitted using wooden fitting ring
also added some extra blue dash lighting (heater panel and clock)
and .. bought an extra alloy from ford for nearly nothing (20 or so quid) brand new.. only been on display for about 4 years :-p .. some scratches on the inside of the rim (out of view when the tyre is on)
Now all i need is time :-p
if someone has some spare.. can you pass it to me :-p
Also wanted: Shortshift/quickshift .. bailey oil seperator (FRST)

Been busy again past weekend...
The bottom of the boot was already in
so was the seperating piece
also the boot-catch panel was covered
A new outer and inner wall of the box
and a lid to close it off.. which nicely follows the contours of the boot
The right box will be the same .. only not containing a battery, but containing a 8 of 10 inch woofer.
In between i have a plan to place the space wheel .. with tyre of course.. embedded in a round box .. and lightened up using some neons from below..
this box can be taken out.. in case of mayor space needed.. (-:
You guys have some other suggestions ?? let me know

the subwoofer housing material is nearly all been ready for assembly,
speakers are ordered (Polk compo and 8" DVC woofer)
Now all i need to do is make a hole in the top to fit the woofer. and fix all panels so it becomes a box (-: then put in the plate to connect the wires.
then .. finish of the top plate (a 2nd plate to cover the top of the enclosement.. and folow the lines of the boot..
then the middle part (where the spare has to go) has to be created.
After that all will have to be covered in cloth (-: and i'm finished with the boot install

Another week.. another weekend.. and.. once again .. another update :-p.. step by step were getting there..
First of all .. in the Phonocar doorpods.. there had to come some 6 3/4" speakers.. well.. the choice wasn't hard.. and getting some reduces prices the deal was done.. and the woofers of the composet are already installed..
Looks good.. sounds 10x better then before .. and i still have to set it up right..
Got an (11 weeks) early BD present from my gf.. which was VERY welcome. .. not gonna tell you all.. but .. it suits with the front speakers (-:
Gonne try and fit that too .. soon.
Ok, back to the boot.
The hole for the woofer is created..
The enclosement is glued and screwed together..
Connection box is in place.. and the finising lid is created (has to get some cloth on it though)
1st testfit in the boot
concept model no 1 for the spare tyre
It should JUST fit.. and that means a lot of trial and error.
Error this time..
The concept is scrapped.. a new concept will have 3 parts.. a rear half .. a front half.. and a seperate lid.
The result is the same .. but the finishing is better
1st glance of the boot with just my spare alloy and the 8" sub (whithout grill) in place

Excellent stuff Jur, glad to see things are still progressing. That boot area looks mighty impressive, definitely a good choice.
Did you get anywhere with the wheel spacer problems you were having?

Nope not yet )-: been to busy with the boot install lately..
trying to find out the difference in offset of the mondeo V6 (278mm) calipers .. compared to the cossie 4x4 ones.. ..
The discs have a different offset (Cossie 4x4 have hight 35.5 or 36mm .. the mondeo V6 discs have a hight of 47 .. that's 11 or 11.5mm in difference.. just enough (-: .. if the callipers ALSO have this difference.. that would be great .. cause then i would start looking for some mondeo v6 ones (-:

Took a day off of work .. to get working on the boot install again
Like above.. the first plan was ditched.. the second plan does look a lot better..
The front half.. well at least closest to the boot. opening.
The other half was a near repeat of the first only a bit higher.. it's sloping upwards towards the bench.
Also created the lid.. on here some magnetic fixtures.. to keep it in place.. just like the lid on the left.
Test fitted with my alloy (don't have a tire yet for the spare yet) .. Jups.. this is gonna work
Now only the install needs some sanding, filling.. and painting..
after that it will get it's final coat of cloth.... and the install can be fitted ..

another day .. another update
time is the issue.. not enough of it in a day ..
there has been some progress, but this was all in the finetuning phase.
Fillered all the screw holes and imperfections of the sub-casing and spare-wheel halves..
but.. then noticed the front half wasn't what it should be.. it whobbled a bit when on the floor )-: .. so had to take it appart and remake it..
Well .. that part is nearly done (will finish it tonight) and then i'll have to filler that part.
The magnetic snappers are in place and glued ..
The battery casing might need some final adjustments .. but then i'm ready to finish it all off..and fix the cloth.
Some picture updates.. soon

Just a thought Jur, not sure if it crossed your mind at all, but, i think it would be a good idea to have some kind of waterproof membrane, or liner, inside the well you are creating for the spare wheel. Just in case you do have a nasty moment and need to change a puncture in the rain, wouldnt want fresh new carpet getting soaked through with dirty water from the tyres

It took some time, effort, money and space .. but it's starting to pay off.
Time : Measuring, sawing, screwing, glueing, sanding, fillering,.. and then.. testfitting, again measuring, modifying.
Then applying glue and cloth.. cutting ect..
The result.. see below
To do:
- put some cloth on: the last lid, the back of the rear seats.. the stealth parcel shelf..
- Fixing the lid magnets
- Fix the sub in it's housing
- Modify the speaker wireing (is 4" short at the moment .. but got some slack wire)
- install the 10" neon ring
And then .. the boot install is finished
All that is left to do:
- Install the tweeters
- install the filter boxes
- wash the car .. and give it a fresh coat of polish
Owh.. and... The spare wheel (currently a 15" steely) will be replaced by the 16" below ..
The tyre to fit
And the alloy itself.. brandnew.. but had some small damage on the inner edge of the outer rim .. .. the alloy was a show-model at a ford dealer.. It had been put on the floor several times which caused the damage
My local ford dealer is willing to put the tyre on .. and balance it (for a friendly price) .. most garages around here aren't that happy when a customer brings it's own tyre..

Another weekend.. another update
- Taken of the cloth of the subwoofer housing and the lid of the spare tyre.. they had the wrong tint compared to the rest (probably from being exposed to UV light in the shop for to long)
So bought a new set of staples .. and a new can of sprayglue :-p cause i was out of that ..
The magnetic shutters weren't functioning as they should, so scrapped that idea.. but.. felcrow works fine too (-: Had some length laying around.. so used that . and it works like a charm.
Put some cloth on the rear of the rear seats too.. to fit them in nicely with the rest.
Had my local ford dealer pop un the tyre on the alloy (and balance it)
Seems like everything around here costs me a whole cake .. hahaha..
The original alloy used for testfitting is back under the car.. and the spare alloy is in the boot now (-: Now all needs to add is some neon, but that's of a later issue.
The sub is placed and connected, although the 8" grill didn't fit )-: it was hitting the rubber ring od the sub.
Also added some extra speaker wireing due to the Sub being a Dual Voice Coil.. and the amp is not 2 Ohm stable (when bridged)
Added some thicker Power cable the Amp. Tore out half of the interior for that :-p but it's for a good cause.
Created some holes in the dash to fit the tweeters.. and fitted the tweeters into the holes (-: The sound is amazing compared to what it was... and that even without the parcel shelf speakers in place.
I also wanted to adjust the boost. It had some overboosting issues lately.. and i thought i solved them... But it seemed not )-:
Without the bleedvalve i was just running 7 psi .. with the bleedvalve 'closed' it ran OVER 15psi .. which is to much for now..
The caue.. well .. the bleedvalve fully thight (for as far as possible) but didn't close up completely, bleeding pressure away from the actuator.
A bit of coppergrease did the job.. .. all needs to be done is stup the bleedvalve correctly now (-:
The amalvalve isn;t working properly too .. but will have a look at that at a later stage .. the 2psi less boost isn't that much of a problem.
Owh .. back to the interior. Been busy whith the stealth parcel shelf yesterday.. It had a black piece of cloth, which didn't match the rest of the interior.. The top part will be fixed under tention, the bottom part (underside) will be glued into place..
Some new wires to the speakers will be fixed. to tidy it all up.
In the meantime i had some contact with the FF gents.. They will be at my place around 10:30h or 11:00h next sunday (16th) I've already checked out some local sites (industrial), including a semi indoor site (an overpass of the Motorway)
I will take them to these sites prior to bringing the fiesta to the site to pick out a good spot.
To do before sunday
- Complete the spare alloy 'lid'
- Complete the stealth parcel shelf
- Clean up the inside of the car
- Wash and polish the exterior
- Clean and polish the underbonnet.
- Polish the twin exit exhaust :-p
Enough to keep me busy this coming week :-p
Pictures.. well .. none for now..
p.s. I was out of bed early last Sunday .. didn't have breakfast yet ..
around 11:00h my GF came to the garage .. with a basket full of food (-: .. we had a picknick in the sun .. in front of the garage... hahah ..
