My Zetec Turbo Build *Abandoned Project*
Good idea, or i could do like the evo's do and have a plate underneath the vent with louvers in it, and then it has a drain at one side to the floor. Would be cheap as i could attach an old fridge of something in the tip for the louvers
Thanks
Matt
Thanks

Fair bit of progress today, decided to attack the oil cooler mounting and the air filter feed. Got a cunning idea for the air filter box which i'll detail as i do it.
Plan is to use the passenger side fog lamps for oil cooler and air filter feeds, and the drivers side for number plate mounting.
Firstly, bumper off, need a hold in the valance, out comes the drill and the dremal....
What a ballache it was to do, due to the contours of the valance i couldn't use my nibbler so i had to chain drill the hole.
Heres to oil cooler, its a Mocal 115mm wide, 16row cooler which has a oil stat built into the take off plate (Called a thermoblock). Its so cute awwwwww....
Heres where its going to live, in the passenger side pocket in front of the wheel. Oil pipes going up past the suspension strut
Here it is half mouted
The cooler through the 'ole in the valance
Then i cut out a hole in the wheel arch liner as an exhaust for the oil cooler's hot air
Meshed it to try and keep some crap out
The bumper trial fitted
The lamp surround blanking plate made from white perspex, this will be covered in fibreglass, sprayed black, then the air holes added and meshed over the top. Came out quite well, considering making one for the other side to be a number plate for shows and track days and stuff
The planned mods/repairs to the bonnet to improve cooling.
Thats it for now, more this week.
Thanks
Matt

That oil cooler mounting is perfection, LOVING the arch liner modification too. Was thinking "That's all going to end in tears!" then the next pic was the mesh Looks superb! Your cooler is MUCH more useful dimensions than mine Really should've measured before ordering.
That's one seriously big area to cut out of the bonnet! What about making it narrower, with the two outer vertical edges meeting up with the RS vent diagonals? I don't have Photoshop on this computer, but these lines show what I mean:
See what I mean? What do you reckon?

I see what you mean, just wondering if it'll look a bit weird as the edges of 5the vents arnt as obvious as the lines of the 'hump' in the bonnet. My theory is if i'm going to cut the bonnet to reduce temps, i may aswell cut it as big as i dare!!
Going to leave as many stiffeners in a possible to still aloow the heat to get out, and mesh to be installed, but some will have to be cut unfortunately. Mesh will be fitted and then the bonnet sprayed with the mesh in place so hopefully it wont be as obvious as black mesh.
Your going to love my airbox idea, but i need pictures to back up my plan. Its funny
Thanks
Matt

DeanoW :i may be stupid but will that cooler not get damaged and full of crap when the wheel rotates (especially in the rain)
Shouldn't do mate, the arch liner will take most of the crap and any that does come off the wheel will not hit the oil cooler as its not in direct line of sight, it hit get covered in crap those just from the atmosphere its going to be in, but everytime i wash the car i'll just blast the hose through the mesh and it should keep it reasonably clear of sh!te
thanks

Intercooler on my mates R19 TD was in exactly the same place, vent through the bumper, kinda sealed with some deflector plates and a vent throguh the arch liner

Now finished the front bumper
Cut out the plates for the ducts...
Installed the three ducts, number 1 is cosmetic, number 2 is for the air filter and number 3 is for the oil cooler
Another shot
Now finished front bumper, increased airflow to the intercooler, the oil cooler duct and the custom sized plate. Bigger than i wanted it to be but it filled the width of the lights perfectly, and has legal lettering so now police problems.
Bonnet, fuel pump and air box next
Thanks

Nice one Matt. I like the feeling of doing things like this "because there's time". When the engine's being built by someone else, and you know when it's going ahead, rather than hitting obstacles, it gives you so much more freedom of thought it's amazing! Time pressure makes everything hard work, much harder than necessary! Good job of it all

I've already got a plate a similar size to phils and the lettering is tiny, totally illegal and i dont like being pulled over by the police!!!
My plate actually looks better ont he car when its out of the garage, in daylight, the camera flash has made it stand out too much and it looks odd. I'll try and get another picture this weekend
Thanks
Matt

Phil's looks great, but it really isn't worth giving the Police another reason to pull you. Number plates completely ruin the front ends of cars (yet another reason to move to America ), so it's just a case of minimalising the damage to the styling. Mine's right at the bottom of the bumper in the middle, on a level with the rubber lip so as not to reduce ground clearance, and give as much air flow to the intercooler as possible. I can see my cutout growing a bit in the not-so-distant future which will no doubt bring about number plate relocation Short, personalised plates Matt, only way we'll get them half-good I think!

Agreed on the personalised plate, but the £250 it costs can be better spent at the moment!
Congrates on the MOT, full steam ahead for the mapping then. Is Scort still coming up and we are all going for a pub tea or what?
Thanks

Thanks, good to get the test over and done with Scort's star appearance depends on his mate's plans regarding the collection of his beautiful S1 from MSD next Saturday. If he's already booked tickets then Scort won't be coming, but if they drive up together they'll all be up there. This S1 is an absolutely stunner of a minter, with a 1.9 CVH. Should be a good day if we're all about Will keep you posted matey

Well, its over.
Bye bye baby, we had such big plans sob sob sob
New owner is putting a CVH engine back in and putting it back on the road. I wish him all the best. Him and his father were really nice blokes, the smoothest sale i've ever had.
Feels a bit wierd though, this is the first car i've ever owned which i feel sorry to see the it go.
Ah well, onward and upward
Anyone need an engine and a fuel pump??
Thanks
Matt

Well done on the sale mate. Just wish I had had the spare time and money to bring it back to life,
Good luck with vehicular spectacular in the future mate.
Going by this project, it should be one hell of a car.

Wow, you're back early! I take it it fits the bill then? One month?! I'll be back at uni on the 16th, so you can nip in and be my "cool mate with the quick car" Shame to see the Fiesta go, you've no doubt learned plenty from it, and as we know, knowledge and experience ALWAYS costs!!

Yes Max it has an engine
2000cc Zetec-R Black Top with a Turbo technics Supercharger
Yep, i have a daliy runner
James- It has been a LONG day! Ques on the M6, then the M1, then the M25, then the M3, and then on the M40, M42 and M6 again on the way home!! It certainly fitted the bill, exactly how he described the car, few little niggles to sort but none that are a major worry. One month yes, the clock it ticking!
I will be cool in winter with no weather gear!!
The fiesta was great but this is an evolution
Thanks

Not much boot space though!!
Certainly right about that! Its actually got more room than it looks, but it is severely restricted, not much room int he cockpit for stuff either like sun glasses and stuff. Going to get a couple of nets behind the seats or maybe a dj's record bag which should fit nicely behind the seats and allow a little bit of stuff to be carried.
No1 priorty though is making some perspex doors!!
Thanks

Great stuff mate!
Sad to hear about the fiesta but at least someone else is taking it on - once you lose heart or whatever it's best to move on!
Good idea on a replacement - I think alot of the buzz with fiesta turbo's is their light weight and relative high horsepower, so the next step really is a kit-car with rwd
Now - the important details...
Transmission, Power/Torque output and vehicle weight
Cheers,
Andy

Transmission- MT75 (or MTX 75 canni remember) 5sp gearbox with standard 3.62 ratio differential
Power- 225bhp
Torque- Approx 190lbs/ft (Didnt pay too much attention to the rr printout!)
Vehicle Weight- 700kg's
Back Tyres are - 245/45/r16 Goodyear eagles and the fronts are 225's. As you may have guessed, its the wide bodied one
Thanks

Just 2bhp short of my dad's then! I hope you're ready for this Matt Spill then, what needs doing to it? Shame it's a month away yet, would've come down to see it and have a play!

Only one way to find out!!
Things that need doing include-
- Fix the rev counter (Appears to be reading half the engine rev's) (£?)
Check the oil temp gauge plumbing/sender. (£?)
Sort out a legal yet kitcar friendly number plate (Int he pic you can see the illegal one, and the clip on/off legal one) Probably going to go stick on (~£20)
Stone guards on the rear wheel archs (£90)
Oil Change (£35)
New back lights (£150)
Tonneau cover (£210)
Snap Off Steering wheel boss (£90)
Nothing major really, can all be done over winter too. I'll drive it as is though until winter methinks.
Thanks

there rev counter problem can often be solved by taking the signal from different area of the ignition system, scort mentioned it in his eec-iv thread and lots of people have had the same when fitting 2i and frst clocks in base models.
varies on the coil pack used etc i think
