I don't see a build guide :-? Just a very short piece about your car with two pictures and writing about what you plan to do with it.

LOL Yep, the one that died was called Zoltan, then we had Zetec, so Dave was funny, then Zoltan died and now Zetec sound stoopid :)

Car wise, new gearbox, clutch, and quickshuft is in. Going to take some getting used too to drive it but the clutch is surprisingly smooth compared to the AP.
And the diff gives some, erm, interesting, driving habits

120miles to go

Interesting driving habits? Explain.

I can still see some mistakes Matt, I think you only skim-read what I sent you! Good build site though, pictures make allll the difference :)

Well, the clutch makes moving off a bit more digital than the AP, but without judder. The quickshift obviously makes gearchanges quicker, but also have to be more precise with the stick, and its a bit notchy, but in a good way. The diff appears to make the car pull a bit once a bit of power is applied. I'll only be able to test it properly though once its on boost.
Just needs a bit of getting used too. Taking the car out for a long drive tomorrow so i'll give a better report then.

StreetDragster :All your corrections where put in i think :-?

Was that a joke? "Where" instead of "were" was one of the things I changed a few times, so I wonder if you're just being ironic saying that ;) I'm just a nit-picking git, I'm sure it's fine for the non-pedantic folk reading your site!

Are you not worried that people will see the Area Six logo and think it's one of Ian's engines? I'd have got a "Streetdragster Race Engines" or something on there, blow your own trumpet a bit. ;)

Have been for a long time mate :D Not quite as much into it now as i would like to be, but i love a bit of hard house :D

how did the mapping go mate

Well, as my friend John said yesturday, 'These things are sent to test us'
Basically, dropped the car off in the morning, i've had no problems with it at all, but whilst i was stood there chatting to Kenny about its setup and stuff it started a little leak from its bottom rad water hose.
Great, so luckily Kenny had some pipe the right size and that was repaired and we left.

Then, at 15:45 i got a phone call about Kenny having problems setting the base idle as my Zetec throttle body has no idle adjustment screw, its done via management, but the FRST management (Which they are live mapping) requires one. So it was time for emergency improvisation.
Luckily, next door to MSD is a fabricators called 'Simply Steel' and the bloke there is a god send. What Kenny/Me/John/Mike worked out, is that the insert from a bleed valve could be used as base idle adjustment, if the boss on the top of the TB was threaded and a hole into the turbo side of the throttle flap drilled.
Then a hole from the engine side of the throttle flap could be drilled to join the two holes together, and the bleed valve thing would regulate the air flow, and thus, the base idle speed.
Which was all great, but the holes weren't quite drilled out enough so i'm going back this morning to eremove the TB and get the holes drilled out further.
A massive thanks so far to MSD and Simply Steel, they were both there until 18:30 last night solving this problem and they didn't have to.

And they haven't even started to put the car through its paces yet! Worried!

Lets See What Today Brings!

Thanks

Matt

i thought there was going to be some bad news then but building a bleed screw is far from the end of the world :D

glad to see someone using eec-iv and fingers crossed it being mapped properly

you've got me thinking now weather things like ISC could be added by adding code to to the eec-iv :-?

Postby StreetDragster on Thu May 12, 2005 12:16 am

Just finished a new nightmare.

Basically, whoever had my turbo before me had access problems and rotated the actuator on the turbo housing. This slipped through the net when i installed the turbo and only showed up today when kenny couldn't get stable boost. So i've been working from 18:00 until now to fix it.
Basically, as the actuator got rotated, the radiator needed moving forward, so the slam panel needed modifying, then the intercooler needed moving forward, then the bumper needed recutting.

Absolute total ballache, and i have now lost my stealthy look as i have had to remove the fog/driving lamps for intercooler clearance, and the bumper cut isn't the tidiest, it can be tidied up later but may be a mess for FITp, if the car makes it down there!!
If they have any problems mapping it tomorrow then its not going :(

Fingers and toes crossed this time

Thanks

Sorry to hear about all the problems Matt - I think everyone who's done a conversion like this or less of one (like mine) hits loads of problems like this that never even hit the radar when planning the project out in the first place!

You can join me with having a scruffy looking turbo at FITP - I doubt mine's gonna even get a clean at this rate!

Cheers,

Andy
