About the insurance, fully depends on two things: If you want it covered by insurance, and if your current insurance covers it.
My insurance covers me for up to £500 of audio equipment, check yours, most companies will do I think, as my insurance is just standard fully comp with Norwich Union.

ive got a 10inch 1000watt sub for sale for 30 quid bargain if you ask me other than that i would recommend 6x9s in the shelf and 3x6 in the front doors and maybe some tweeters and an amp to power the 6x9s and the sub would cost less than 300 and sound mint

Don't get 6x9 and a sub. The best solution if you want good and loud sound is to get amped front component speakers, with a sub of your choice depending on what you listen too.
When first passed my test i got Vibe SR6x9 and SA50. All unamped. Yes it was loud, sound was ok but for it to be loud the sound was drained to the rear.
If I were to spend money on ICE now i'd get a really decent powerful set of front components (normal speakers and tweeters) amped with a 10inch sub amped in the boot. This would give a crisp, loud and punchy sound.
Hope this helps.

So i can run my mp3 player through it, £80 if you know where to look
Feersum_Enjin,as for the components + tweeters how would you install them? would anything cutting be required?
if i got an amp whats the difference between mono,2-chnl...etc?
as you can probably tell ive got no clue what im doing when buying, but i can wire em up alright,
thats another thing, would i need to buy a wiring kit, or would they all be included?
cheers!

Personally if you didn't want the hassle of going bespoke and fitting 6.5" components upfront, then simply get the adaptors that will allow the fitment of 5.25" mid badd speakers in the doors. I would also pay attention to a little bit of sound deadening in localised application around the front speakers, the more the better.
If you want ease of install just go for some two way coaxial 5.25"s for the front with the adaptors, or if you want a better sound stage and a bit more detailed music reproduction, start looking into component setups. Such as a 5.25" mid bass speaker in the doors, and make some tweeter builds in the interior mirror plates or on the a pillar.
Then if you really want rear fill, you could either go for some 4" coaxials in the rear shelf to the sides in standard locations, or fit some coaxials in the shelf.
However if you want a little bit more bass response, then begin looking at subwoofers, but certainly look at sound deadening the boot area first, as with enough power the boot of a fiesta will become an imitation of a machine gun, with the rattles of the tailgate. Your can cheaply avoid rattles by applying loft insulation in the voids of the tailgate, applying double sided tape behind the number plate to absorb vibrations, and sound deaden behind the plastic trim on the inner side of the tailgate. Any large areas of bare metal would be worth applying deadening to as it will help add mass to the area and alter the resonance of the metal, stopping irratating rattles.
A four channel amplifier could be used to power front components and the extra two channel could be bridged to run a subwoofer, and run the rear speakers of the headunit outputs. Look at installing a minimum of 4 gauge wiring into the car as it will allow you to upgrade at a later date instead of tearing out the lesser kit to replace it.
Theres no limits with in car audio but you need to work out a budget of which you have already outlayed and try and stick to it as much as you can, otherwise you'll end up spending thousands like most of us do.
If you need any more help just throw me a pm or add me to your msn and i'll try and explain any glossary terms to you which may be slightly scary to you atm.

Spend your cash on a nice headunit and a set of front speakers. That'll wipe out your funds but you'll at least have a base. At a later date you can add a 4 channel amp to run your front speakers and a sub.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
