It still needs buffing and will be looking great. I'll get some pictures from a proper camera at the weekend instead of a phone.

There will be a cleaned and laquered cam cover and inlet manifold going on at a later stage.

This isn't my project I'm just telling the guy how to do it and helping out with the work. He is paying for it so has final say. I've advised on a lot of this that should have been done differently for example painting the inside of the shell, new window and door rubbers, new or painted door handles/mirrors and boot spoiler, new track rod ends and at least painting the hubs!!

If it were my project it would have been done a lot quicker and a lot better. Nick will never be competely happy with it because of the things that have not been done properly, it a shame because he did start with this in mind but now he has been carless for several months all he wants to do is throw it together now which isn't the way forward. That said it does look great and will look great when it's done but as you've said little things will let down the whole image of the car.

you always get to a stage like that with projects!

fair play to him for taking it on tho as its quite a big deal to completely build a new car up from scratch, the inside not being painted wont pose too much of a problem when its all built up as there will be trim over everything, just nside the boot will show its not painted but that can be sorted

Chris, It will be keeping the original registration.

DVLA website :In order to retain the original registration mark:

cars and car-derived vans must use:
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).

And two other major components from the original vehicle - ie suspension (front & back); steering assembly; axles (both); transmission or engine.

Have been doing a bit more over the last few weeks. It's turning out to be taking a huge amount of time as we can only get an hour or so on an evening and have managed four hours this whole weekend.

Anyway slowly, it's moving further on. I got the dash in today. :D

unfortunately no. for it to qualify for a new registration it has to be built entirely from new stock and there must be reciepts backing it up (or at least for the more major thing).

Another productive day today however it ended up with a rather large problem. I finished putting all the earths on and fired the battery in to do a test of everything, everything worked first time, yay! After determining the car loom was all good we then turned our attention to giving it a test start to check the engine loom. The loom is equipped with an all signing and dancing category one alarm and immobiliser and the alarm fob has been lost! :x

Nick hopes it at his house so the test starting has been put off until he finds it which will hopefully be tomorrow. On the plus side while at the scrappy today I managed to find a fiesta with it's red key and a matched slave key and a matched PATS module as well. :Q

The brake pipes at the back have been done and some flexible hoses ordered. We have found an issue which I am a little stumped with though. When trying to re-attach the handbrake cable from either side to the single cable on the end of the lever it falls short by about four inches? :-? The drums couldn't of adjusted it this much out of reach could they? Any theories would be greatly appreciated as we are hoping to have her ready for an MOT next week.

The horn was also painted in a comedy colour and I'm not wholly impressed with the results!
