New engine in a Mk3 1.3 - suggestions?

Any sucessful engine swaps using a Mk3 1.3 as the original victim?

I'm interested in taking my motor off the road, and doing some serious mods to it... and an engine conversion is on my list :-)

I'm very new to this car malarky - but that doesn't mean I won't face a good challenge....

Sucess / failure stories welcome ;-)

a 2L 16v modeo engine, seems to be a good option,
