Newbie with a zvh question

Postby Misterk on Fri Feb 01, 2013 2:40 pm

Hi, I've just purchased a fiesta rs turbo and have installed a freshly built 1.9 zvh. The engine has fully forged internals along with a hybrid turbo and beige injectors. Now I have two ofab ecu's, one has a blue superchip and one has a black superchip.... Now for the questions,
Which of the two superchips should I use and what sort of power and psi am I able to run before having to switch to aftermarket engine management :-?

Thank you in advance, will post up pictures soon

your best bet would in my opinion would be to sell both the chips you have and get one custom written for your engine. 99% sure they will be written for a 1.6 t2 turbo'd cvh. if theres any part numbers on them id get in contact with the manufacturer and find out there spec. then you will know what boost you can run :) or.... maybe find a rolling road near you and get the car on there with both chips tested and see what they say..the last one i can vouch for (was a 2.0 mind) on beige injectors made 201bhp and 320 pounds of torque... but on a custom zvh chip

Why not punt the chips and adapt the existing loom for your MS setup ?

I'd love to but no one near me has a clue about using megasquirt so would cost me £800 just to get to someone then the cost of mapping once I'm there as unfortunately I live on a crappy island. Unless someone can point me in the direction of a base map for a zvh?? Then I've got a mate who would be able to fine tune it. Once I've gone zetec turbo ill have to pay for it to be done

Which island ? :)

EDIT : You should be able to download a basemap that'll get you safely mobile, at the very least.

Guernsey mate, yea the base map would be literally to run it up then it will be trailered to the rolling road in jersey which is a shorty ferry trip away

Basemap should be safe for driving on, they're designed with safety in mind so they're very conservative. If you're using MS I think you can also safely auto-tune it to a degree, certainly enough to get it to an RR for setup. Be a helluva lot cheaper than taking a trailer simply based on ferry cost. :)

To be fair ferry is £155 for just a car or £195 with the trailer so it's not to bad, the car is being transformed into a wide arch hillclimb car so insuring it would probably be quite expensive,

I've taken photos along the way so will start a thread in the next few weeks showing it go from road car to race car :)
