Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light

Jonezy :wywywywy :May I recommend buying the dual 12" kit instead of the 4" one, as 12" is of better value and much brighter... if you have enough space
I especially like the fact that I have a switch in the boot >_<
Because when I clean the interior (takes about two hours to clean properly), I keep the boot open, and I don't really want the lights draining the battery.
heres mine with 2x12" tubes hidden on bottom of the shelf
i used the power from one of the channels off my amp distribution block with a 3A in line fuse, went to motor world and used a telescopic boot switch as the earth.

Re: Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light
I did this on mine years ago.
I took the fuse out for the boot light, the cut the wires.
I then wired the inverter straight to the wires and it all worked, once I out the fuse back.

ok, i might try that. they should be arriving some time this week, i hope it is that simple, its just last week i managed to blow the fuse just by trying to add a normal fiesta interior light. i dunno why i added it as a paralel circuit to the number plate light cable????

Re: Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light
I blew the fuse while fitting the boot lights hence my advice to remove it first.
As I said it was really that simple.
Some more advice I found if I extended the wires from the inverter to the cathodes they got very dim, so in other words extended the fiesta wiring to where you want the lights and then mount the inverter, I was running 3 inverters off the wiring with no problems.
I actually used them in the foot wells too, I used an inverter on each side and wired the positive to the interior light circuits and the earth to the door connection (completes the circuit when the door is open), so basically when I opened a door that sides foot well lit up.

Re: Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light
can i ask then, what circuit can i add them to in the boot if i just want to use the switch to turn then on and off?
thanks for the footwell bit, i ordered 4, 2 for the boot and 1 for each footwell to make them light when each door opens. but i want to switch the boot one on and off when i like.

Well if you wire to the boot light circuit and add a switch then they will be off when the boot is closed but when open they can be on or off (do you need them on when its closed?)
Failing that the wire them to a live and earth like anything else (if your running amps then add them there and use the switch as you would imagine).

- had a bit of trouble getting wire from interior light to behind the centre console, but got there in the end, i took off the fillar cover ans also took off the vun visor which enabled me to pull the lining down a bit and feed the wire along. to get it behind the console i used 2 bits of wire, 1 alont the roof and 1 from the bottom of the pillar to the back, pushed the 2nd one up along the same path aas the green ariel wire and took the air blower out of its place to pull the end of the wire up and make them meet.

Good job, amazing how good it looks for such a cheap mod.
Nice place for the switch too.

Re: Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light
hmmm....having a bit of circuit problem...after a few hours of doing it, i have now decided that i'd like to use the switch as a manual overide, so that if i want to have the lights on even with the door closed i can....right, so i found a nice place to put the switch, blah blah put it in wired it to a live behind the dash and the other end to a new connector block with the now closed circuit where the switch used to be, and alse earthed the connector block, but the interior light is constantly on, even if i manually switch the lights on or off or the doors are open or closed, i guess its because it's getting its live from the new switch i made. So my question is.... is there a way to have the lights come when the doors are open, but also have a switch to turn them on if the doors arent open and dont want the interior light on? do i need another set of door sensors to get the earth from?

Re: Newbies Guide: Fitting Boot Blue Light
Just put a diode in line to stop the current flow back to the interior lights from your switch.
