Mark - Lydden is a good little circuit - its not a 'fast' circuit but you can get a feel for how the car handles as it has more bends than anything else

As my text said, well done. Combe is a whole different circuit though, while the straight at lydden is about 80mph, Combe you will do well over 100mph. So much quicker. Apparently there was some asshead there in a 207 causing aggro on track, glad you didn't end up with him in your session

Did find a rusty spark plug and cylinder while servicing it - it appears at some point the core plug has been replaced. The cylinder was dry and I've had no misfiring or coolant loss so I assume its been done

good 0-60 runs too, i enjoyed doing mine, got very competitive with myself too but i couldnt get any lower than a 8.56, even tried the letting air out the front tyres trick haha

I did some investigation earlier on to find out as much as I could about the source of the rust on plug 1, and the ticking noise I have.

The ticking noise I have is common across all Duratec's, and the source is the fuel injectors opening and closing. Nothing I can do about it really, they're all like it.

The rusty plug was the worrying one for me. I originally thought it could have been core plug related, but it turns out the actual explanation is much more simple and much less worrying .

When the airbox is on the top of the engine, I always assumed it covered the whole engine, however it's slightly offset, meaning plug + lead 1 is exposed... directly underneath the offside washer jet.

When it rains, the water gets in through the edge of the washer, drips down onto the top of the lead and seeps through to the plug. Upon further investigation today, its only the thread that was rusty:



and the cylinder beneath looks normal. So I've sealed around the washer jets so no water can get in, replaced the airbox on top of the engine (see if it muffles the injector noise), and cleaned the throttle body. Now idles and drives a lot better.

As for styling tweaks, I've stuck to my word. Nothing has changed, nothing has been painted, even down to the radio - well, apart from a seasonal accessory.

looks like the spart plug is just getting rust from the gathered water then, zetec HT leads have liek a water tight plunger on the stem, whats the duratec leads like?

They're a pain. From top to plug the lead is around 4 inches long and took ages to pull off. You can see they've attempted to seal it by matching it to the port holes but water could easily get down there, now I took a photo of it and put the airbox/cover on its so obvious where the water got in

Not immediately. Going to start up a fund for a wheel refurb after the new year (the current wheels were refurbed before I bought the car and the paint is beginning to peel), and also milltek/mountune cat back exhaust. Other than that, not a lot. Thinking about options for full iPhone integration (replacement head unit) however I like how the standard HU sits in the dash etc.

Not that one Jon, but I know the one you're thinking of.

The one I mean is the version that came standard on post 2008 Fiesta's:

however feature wise the only difference is that it only takes one CD and plays MP3 discs. I'd ideally like something I can plug the phone into, plays tracks off the phone, while retaining the use of the steering column remote and bluetooth. The problem is, if I get an aftermarket head unit, I lose the output on the odometer.

It makes such a difference being lowered, especially on the Eibachs. Correct on the tyres, the Pirelli's were worn down so instead of £90 a corner for P Zero Nero's again, I decided on Toyos. Very well recommended!
