No Rear Disks On Fiesta's? Is It Just Me!
ight just be me! but everywhere i read on here, it seems that all of the mk3 fiestas had rear drums ,that cant be right! even the punto gt has rear disks even if a digestive biscuit is bigger *and probably works better too!!*
if that be the case, how the heck am i gonna get a set of rear disks to fit to my lil ol' 1.1, i know its not worth it, but it will all help for what ive got planned later on!
cheers

You'll find that "even the Punto GT" has rear discs because it was released some eight or nine years after the 1989 Mk3 Fiesta!

No Mk3 fiesta was sold originally with rear discs.. .. but with 'just' 104 (110 for cars without Katalystic converter) BHP with the sporty XR2i .. it wasn't.. and isn't needed.
The front brakes cope with most of the brake power... and drums actually brake very well ..
The fiesta drums are up te the job .. with normal 'sporty' road use..
In 1990 the FRST came.. and the brake power wasn't upgraded, but the power was increased of the engine itself.. BHP by 29BHP .. but the torque by some more..
IMHO the FRST had to get the 260mm brake setup for standard .. but got the 240mm setup (in the front)
Still.. the rear drums were up to the job..
Some started modifying the engines.. creating more BHP and more torque.. you want the accellerate fast.. but you want to deccelerate in the same rate.. so brake upgrades are a logical step.
But if you upgrade the front.. and don't upgrade the rear you get an uneven balance on the front-rear ..
so upgrading to discs for more byte in the rear was the option when you upgrade the fronts..
appart from the better braking (and balance) it also looks much better..
A standard (stage1) brake upgrade: RS2000 fronts(260mm). and rear discs setup
Stage 2 rs2000 in the rear and cosworth / mondeo V6 on the front (278mm)
Stage 3 rs2000 / Focus rears (focus is incl MK5 ZS beam) and Focus st170 fronts (300mm) (also bigger master cylinder is advisable)
p.s.
The Uno turbo I.E. also had rear discs.. and was sold since 1985..and the R5GTT also had rear discs so age isn't part of this..

People get so hung up on rear discs. The fact is they do such a small amount of the overall braking (as little as 10% on FWD) they aren't over worked. I use standard drums on my track car and have never had an issue and a good friend with a 400bhp Zetec Turbo Fiesta still uses the stock drums as well.
If in proper working order the drums are quite up to the job in hand even if they are a little outdated

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Very true! the drums are fine for the job, even if they look a little old hat!
that said i will be doing a rear disc conversion on mine in the near future but it is mainly for the looks.
I have HI-Spec discs and 4pots on the front and it brakes superbly.

Drums are better at initial bite but they are very poor at getting rid of heat. This is one of the reasons why cars brakeing is done by the front big front discs.
'performance' cars have discs at the back to make them more desirable, in the vast majority of cases drums would be perfectly OK.
