Hi.

Yes the tapping noise will most certainly be the tappets (valve clearances) Ive done my clearance on my fiesta 1.1, -

Fiesta 1.1 1989> = 0.2mm inlet 0.3mm exhaust
Fiesta 1.3 the same except when there is a sticker on the rocker cover =
0.5mm exhaust.

Only set the exhaust to 0.5mm when it says so though, these have a
hardened cam follower set that require the larger gap.

Also, wait for the engine to cool down before you set these, & there is a way to do Ford engines - look it up, or ask here.

Daz.

Why is that? Surely you can make it sound a little less obtrusive?

Anyone know what engine i have? It's a 1.1 Mk3.5, I think it's HCS, but not sure.

it might quiten a little but the hcs makes that noise,

there was a thread on hear on how to quiten them, but it involved grinding something in the engine (cant remember what), but thats asking for trouble

Yo...

Mine is a 1.1 HCS engine, in a J reg fiesta, mine also sounded really bad, I did my clearances & it did make mine alot quieter, after youve done the adjustments once, your supposed to do them again, about 2 weeks after the first adjustments, after the second adjustment it should be o.k.
