Offshore Career

Hey, I am about to give my notice at work after 4 years because I'm going to college to study an HNC in Engineering Systems, would like to get offshore at technician level but still unsure what engineering field in. Mechanical hopefully.
I was wondering if there is anyone here working in the offshore industry and wouldn't mind sharing which route you took to get out there.
