Operation more horses
I recently had my RS Turbo up for sale but after deciding to keep the Fez and having a track day at Knockhill at the end of this month I thought it was time to spend some more of my hard earned on tuning the car a bit. I've had the Fiesta running Standard, Stage 1 and Stage 2 power at various points of my 7 years of ownership but every time the power is turned up it never seems quite right. This time round I've decided to invest a bit more cash making the car both faster and smoother with a few new upgrades.
Here are a few pics of the car before
I started with my Big Valve Head which I've had sitting up in my loft for a year or so I decided to strip the bad boy down and clean it up then went on to port and polish the inlet and exhaust ports.
Here's how she looked at the start
I used my dremmel and a few differently shaped grinding stones to remove all the casting marks and scars then used the light gauge sanding rolls to polish down what the grinding stones had missed. After that I polished each port down with a small wire brush attachment on the dremmel and brushed down the inside face of the head cleaning up the valve seats etc.
I was well chuffed with the end results so set about cleaning up the old valves
With everything cleaned up I set about reseating the valves which is a great job :hanged: I was told to spend a good 10 mins on each one but ended up spending 10 mins with the coarse paste and 10 mins with the fine paste just to make sure lol
Here are a few more of parts waiting to be fitted over the next 2 weeks
Got a full head gasket set, studs and bolts, new timing and alternator belts, uprated fuel pump and some nice oil
This is one of the better upgrades a Gotech Mini Pro ECU, wiring loom and connectors. Since I purchased a load of cable and braided sleaving for the S1 build I thought I'd wire this one up myself. I will be making more progress with this over the next week or so before the car go's to Sitech to be live mapped
Got my Inlet manifold off today and gave it the same treatment as the head, ground out all the casting marks and scars and then polished up the inner walls
My brother managed to get the head finished off too while I was down south so thats all cleaned up and ready for fitting now
Made some progress on the new loom now as I was waiting for more cable to arrive on a 24hr delivery but 72hrs later it still isn't here so ended up having to use the same coloured cable for the full loom. Started by getting the wiring cut to the correct length and ferrelled both ends of every cable to make it easy to identify.
After I had all the engine bay wiring accounted for I started adding the braided sleaving to each branch leg off the main loom
Next job will be to get the main body of the loom braided which looks like it'll be fun  then fit all the Bosch EG1 connector ends for the sensors and injectors etc.
Well managed to get the main body of the loom braided last night which was about as much fun as I had anticipated  I must admit though it does look pretty good
I did start to fit the pins for the EG1 connectors but soon realised that I'd made a bit of a fook up as they need to be crimped with a certain tool to be able to install them into the injector style connectors. I'll need to order the crimper tomorow on another 24hr delivery and just hope that this one arrives in time as the car go's to sitech on Wednesday morning so it's going to be tight
Once the connectors are fitted thats the engine bay loom complete which is about 90% of the loom done. The remaining wiring will be run behind the dash inside the car for fuel pump control, ignition lives and relay connections etc

+1 on the rewiring lol all looks very good mate , shame about having to use the same colour wirefor everything but ho hum lol although just as a pointer the inlet ports are not supposed to be fully smoothed iirc due to getting a better swirl to mix the fuel and air mixture is a better than just smooth flow but for the zorst you can go as smooth as possible to get the gases straight through the turbo this is what I have learnt to believe so is only my opinion..
Btw any chance of some pics of the RS?

It was quite a task mate and it wasn't that big of a loom to be fair but it turned out really good so was worth the effort

I've heard conflicting advise myself on it but to be honest the inlet was a lot smoother inside than the cylinder was and I couldn't get right in about it due to the length and design but the car ran great when I fired it up with the new head fitted. Forgot all about car pics lol as I copied and pasted it from a post on my local RSOC group site. I've added some pics at the top now though
HCS PIMP :looks good mate
Cheers mate, really looking forward to getting it back from being mapped now

Re: Operation more horses
Another update as I'm trying to get every thing sorted on the Fez for Wednesday but thats the loom as far as I can go without the crimping tool to finish the job off. Hopefully the crimper will arrive in the post in the morning so that it's complete for going to sitech ray:
I managed to get down to my brothers today and we got the old head off the car and got my Kent cam and vernier pulley swapped over along with my tappets and lifters as they are pretty much brand new.
Tomorrow it'll be a case of getting the new head fitted and replacing all the gaskets and belts as we go then get home to hopefully crimp all the ends on my loom fingers crossed

Re: Operation more horses
Pulled another late one last night and managed to get the new head fitted to the car and got the engine bay all built back up again checked everything over and gave it a crank. It was a bit tappety at first till the head built up a bit of oil pressure but ran sweet as I never bothered with a test run as I had to get stuck into finishing the loom after my crimping tool arrived
Went out at 8 oclock this morning and headed over to my brothers to pick up the Fiesta and head to Sitech. Car started and ran perfectly untill about a mile away from junction 5 on the M8 when plumes of smoke started to come in through the heater vents :surprised: nursed the car to the off ramp and pulled over but I couldn't see were the oil was coming from but the starter and alternator were covered. Got back in the car and drove about another mile with an eye glued to the oil pressure gauge untill I got into Eastfield, pulled over and killed the engine to have a better look. As I got out I looked back and there was a nice oil trail following me up the road. Lifted the bonnet and there was a lot more oil about and after a bit of digging I found this
The Sump was empty when I checked the oil level but I had good oil pressure right up untill I killed the engine so fingers crossed there is no bottom end damage. I called Simon to fill him in and asked if it would be ok to still bring the car up via alternative means
Not exactly how I'd planned to arrive at Sitech but thats old Fords for you they like to keep you on your toes Hopefully have the car back at the start of next week then it's just a few finishing touches before Knockhill

Cheers Paul, the wee car ran sweet up untill the oil return hose blew up To be honest getting time to get all the wee jobs done were piling up so quickly I wasn't even sure at one point wether I would make it to Sitech at all so didn't want to mess you about buddy incase it all went pear shaped
At least the cars is up there now and Simon is aware of whats happened so he'll hopefully keep a keen eye and ear on the car while he's mapping her. I emailed him tonight to see when I'll be able to pick it back up as I still need to get that fuel filler neck replaced don't want a repeat of Kames

Cheers buddy fingers crossed it's all good, the electrical place I'm using is AES here's a link http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ I've used them quite a few times now and they're prices are the best I can find anywhere on the net and the products are great quailty. I used the thin wall cable and the expandable braided sleaving which is fantastic stuff

Hi Tom cheers mate, managed to get the oil breather fitted but haven't had the time to do the filler neck yet mate I've got just over 42 hours to get the car back from Sitech and get the filler neck fitted before Knockhill so it's going to be tight Thanks again for the parts buddy
Just a minor update so far, I popped into Sitech this morning and the old loom has been stripped out and the new one was just going in. They seemed fairly confident the car would have a base map in it before the end of today so fingers crossed I can pick it back up either tomorow night or worst case Friday morning
The oil return pipe has been repaired too and they said that there was still plenty of oil left in the sump so sounds like the bottom end should definatley be OK
