Options for upgrading brakes on a Fiesta SI

Postby chrisfiestasi on Mon Jun 04, 2007 4:46 pm

Only had the car a few weeks so im not up on what parts fit on what cars atm.

Im basically looking to upgrade the brakes on my SI, can I get bigger calipers from an escort or likewise?? Are the brakes on the XR2i and RS the same as the SIs?

Really im looking for calipers that take bigger disks and ofcourse better braking :D

thanks in advance

TBH the Si is no ball of fire and the standard kit should be more than up to the job of bringing the car to a standstill. I would however suggest flushing things through with fresh DOT-4 and fit eitehr Mintex 1144 or Ferrodo DS2000 pads. If you're feeling flush you could bung on some braided hoses.

The brakes on the Si are the same as those used on the XR2i and FRST (bar a slight pad compound change).

Its no ball of fire, but you dont brake whilst accelerating. i only had a 1.4 clio before and but putting the 1.8 16v brakes on made driving so much more fun, and you know you can brake quicker than the person in front :)

I want bigger disks mainly because the current ones are piddly and look pathetic behind even 15s. Also its always useful incase of errr future upgrades :D

I don't blame you for wanting larger brakes behind the 15s, but I have to say, you can't really compare the brakes of one car to another :) My dad has a 1.2 Clio, and the brakes are absolutely shocking on it!

But I still ran my 1.1 brakes (solid 240mm discs) with my 1.8 engine for over 8 months, and to be fair, it braked very very well. Would never recommend it obviously, because fading is still an issue :)

4x4 Cosworth setup should do the job of filling the space behind your 15" wheels though. Have a look at the guide that onslack posted, although try and get some proper spacers made up for the calipers... Washers are dodgy in my opinion!

I ran my old 2i (with 35bhp more than your Si) on and off track for 2 years on the standard kit with just a pad upgrade. You can go over the top if you want, it's your money at the end of the day
