Panel Filter or Induction Kit?????
13 posts • Page 1 of 1
Im having my car set up next friday, the cars currently got a pipercross induction kit. Would the original air box with a performance panel filter be better??? Will it reduce the noise by much??? The car has a 165 chip, high boost cam, uprated intercooler, mongoose exhaust.
Would the air be cooler with the air box??
Any comments would be appreciated thanks.

You could do with the cold air feed of the air box and an induction kit isn't gonna release a whole load of ponies for the money, which I would put towards a port and polish, cam, etc. You can drill the airbox, but to be honest, I think it'll be okay with a performance panel filter.
I'm well interested to see what everyone else has to say on this though...

The great debate panel or cone ????
I have a cone filter and i prefer the cone, the sucking noise is great
Yes the cone filter will take in hot air when stationary, but when moving you get lots of cold air flowing through the front of the car and i wouldn't think a plastic box will give much thermal protection from the heat of an engine.
As i see it, the FRST air box is small and restrictive, so i got rid of it and put in a cone, which has alot more room for air to flow through.
But it comes down to personal choice, up to yourself what you want.
cheers

I have a panel filter, to be honest there is not much in them, if you want a nice induction noise then go for the cone, if you want a quieter engine noise then go for the panel, performance wise they are about the same!

Just to throw a spanner in the works, a bloke down the pub said , that a cone filter does not keep the do-do out as well as panel filter??!!? plus there is this thing about hot air when the car is stationery!

I just put a K&n cone on my xr2i yesterday and the sound is quite unbelivable. When your driving normally you can hear it a bit, but when you floor it, JESUS!!! Even when you open the bonnet and its just idling you can hear it making a nice hissing noise as its doin its thang.
BTW, did u lot attach that plastic stretchy tube to help the air flow or didnt u bother, if so, what did you attach it too?

Panel vs cone... we did this one on the soarer site.. someonre even wen to the troube of measuring intake temps!!!!
works out that a cone is better for "open road" driving, but if your sitting at the lights/moving slowly in town your sucking in hot air, for racing from the lights a modded airbox is better.
erm thast it really
I;m getting a cone K&N have a new one, better then 57i kit

I've got a K&N cone and its fine... makes loadsa noise and makes the car feel more powerful I did go back to a panel just recently and hated it... it is very very quiet and sounds like a normal car and just doesnt feel powerful, i noticed no difference in power whats so ever, i would never go back to the panel again panel was very boring!
plus K&N are bringing out a cone filter heat sheild soon, that'll be nice
