Parcel Shelf speakers that fit a mk3, plus some advice
Hey guys, just wondering what size speakers fit the rear parcel shelf of a mk3 5door fiesta? Ive got two speakers upfront in the passenger and driver side doors.
Or can i get any size? Also, can you guys give me some advice on what i need to look out for speakers? I don't really want to go as far as buying subs and amps. I just want some speakers that can go comfortably loud but also sound good with a song that has a lot of atmosphere i.e like a dance/trance song (as an example). Basicaly just make it sound like a surround sound system.
Your help and advice will be greatly appriciated

Ermm,
id go for a decent set of comps up front, but failing that
im not really too sure mate,
my NEW si ive got, some one has cut 6x9 holes in the shelf in that, theres metal in it and alsorts, looks well tacky and compared to a steath shelf(MDF) it sounds aweful
+ i find the MDF shelf makes the speakers sound deeper, it acts as a box, like a sub box with it being more solid etc
your choice though,

whats your sort of budget for some 6x9s mate ?
are you bothered how wow they will too, or simply just want something in there to give it a bit more of a bang(bass)
as the 6x9s will help bass

no, im not bothered about how great they are.I dont want to splash out on loads of money. Just an extra set of speakers in the rear to give it a more surround sound kind of feel to it. I dont need base that makes the car throb, just enough so u can hear it (and perhaps feel it a tiny bit if you put the volume up).

ok then if you go to halfords, and get the cheapest ones you can from there. 6x9 will make it sound better and more surround like.
or go to 'maplin' electronics as they have a few there that are cheap.

you can get an MDF 'stealth shelf' off ebay for around £30 posted if you're lucky. I also got some Infiniti Kappa 6x9s off there for £30 too
If you're looking for a direct replacement you'll only be able to fit 13cm speakers and for those you'll need the adapters to fit in the parcel shelf supports.

I dont really know anything about speakers, so i wouldn't know what to look for. Anything in particular that i should look out for in specs so that i could see that theyre good?

look for at least 3-way speakers,
at least 100w rms 250w max so you can amp em later
either pioneer, infinity, alpine, vibe or any other very well known brand
pay at least £50 for a decent set
about makin you own shelf heres mine, cost me less than a tenner to make and does the job and looks reasonably smart to me.

Nice work there jonezy and thanks for the info as well.
Ive got another few questions too.
What size speakers fit the front speaker housings in the passenger and driver doors
and what size speakers fit the rear speaker housings in the boot? Any ideas? If i could just replace the speakers in them to some nicer sounding ones, that would be great.
When i turn the volume up abit the base on afew songs do not sound too good. Not sure but is it more likely to be the speakers then the speaker housings?

Jonezy :really, think thats just you,
il vouch for the fact that there are better ways than 6x9s, but they do give a reasonable blend of sound
they dont give quality...they give loudness...harsh loudness at that. and before you ask, yes i have tested LOADS and LOADS of 6x9s in a HUGE variety of environments and they are rubbish...the best systems have round speakers and round speakers only
the ONLY time i recommend 6x9's is when there are NO subwoofers installed in the vehicle and there is a lack of midbass from the arrangement. even then i recommend going for a GOOD set of components or co-axials but a GOOD set will set you back a bit of cash as will need a good amp driving them....with 6x9's they are cheap and cheerful and can be run off headunits without too many complains
