performance chip, any good? please help

hi, im a newbie to this site and just wondered if any1 knows if the chips things from ebay are any good? they cost up to £4 and claim to boost bhp by 5-20bhp! they work by adjust the air, fuel mixture i think.
has any1 tried these? if you have or even havn't then what you reckon?

My friend bought one and the thing never even turned up, lol. A week later the member had been kicked off ebay.

I say stay well away from anything that sounds to good to be true. 5-20hp boost for £4 - Never.

there are some chips on ebay for 80-100, although still not sure how good tehyd be. claim about 8bhp.
