My mate has a 205 GTi 1.6 with a full PMC exhaust and a JR Air filter....

I have a XR2i 8v with a magnex back box and a pipercross induction kit.

I thought these 2 cars were fairly similar performance wise - but my mate can cane my ass! The pug is so much quicker than the XR2i - off the mark, and on the open road. It seems to rev more freely too.

What can I do (with relatively low cost!) to get my own back?

C'mon - please help me to restore some face!!

Mike

The service might not be inough. Get it on a RR.
Don't forget the pug (just like the R5) is made of paper thin metal, weighs less than a can of beans & dents everytime you mow down a fly, so it has a big weight advantage.

Standard against each other the pugs gona beat you. If the car isnt running right on take of, get an FSE power boost valve, itll help it run more smoothly, you can pick them up 4 about 90 quid or so. Also the standard clutches in the fiestas are quite slow at picking up, a race fly wheel should short that out which will help you rattle up the gears. Get it R.R last cause theyll set it up to use your mods to there best ability

The fact that if you crash your fezzie it won't squash into a metal lump about 1 foot squared
should make up for the other downfalls though!
My mate used to have a 1.6 Gti and I shat my pants every time I got in the bloody thing. They may handle well but it feels like they're gonna fly off the road at every corner..........maybe it was just the way he drove!?!

at least you don't have to hold your car together to stop it falling to pieces above 25mph!! whereas driving in a french car is definately more of an adventure!! oops, there goes the door trim again

Does the PUG GTI have a 16 valve engine?
If not I cant understand how a 1.6 can thrash a 1.8 valver, its not as though the Fiesta is a big heavy car and the engine is pulling virtually bugger all!
Does the GTI and the XR2I have a similar injection system? ie MPI

The 205 1.6 is an 8v and the XR2i 8v is a 1.6 as well.
Both Multipoint Injection but the GTi is rated at 115BHP and the XR2i at 110BHP.
It is true that the 205 is a lot lighter than the fiesta
(the 1.8 16v XR2i is rated at 105BHP and is a fair bit heavier?)

Owned both pugs 1600 and 1900 and the 16 was faster than the 19 nothing to do with lightweight french crap(but deep down the are?)the reason is the 16 gearbox is mentally close ratiod l put a 16 gearbox in the 19 and fcuk all could catch it on acceleration and back roads different story on motorways though.so get a lowered close ratio box for your fiesta and have fun again try a 14sport one.sorted
