Phase 1 ZS: Nothing exciting but...

Postby EUFez on Sun Nov 25, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi all.

Bought myself a Fiesta ZS, Phase 1 in Imperial Blue, bought her for £900 with a full service history, a years MOT + Tax, it's been re-mapped and comes with Mondeo alloys recently refurbed in black, leather interior as well. Over all the shell is quite tidy for its age, it's just hit 100k and runs brilliantly.

There's a slight paint imperfection on the rear bumper and the fogs don't work, but that might be just the fuse. Also need a battery for my key for central locking/boot pop etc.

My plans for the future:
• Coilovers
• Puma Engine
• Bumpers resprayed
• Sort minor rust bubbles on arch.

Looking to put my Borbets on to give it a unique look, otherwise it would of been Cossie alloy's.

Over all just your bog standard ZS, with bog standard plans really.

Let me know what you think,

James

You really can't go wrong for that sort of money! AC too.

Looks like it needs new top mounts BTW, and I expect it'll need new arms and bushes - just standard stuff, but aside from that it looks like a real bargain to me.

Yeah, exactly. Great value for money. I thought phase 1 didn't come with air con? But I was shocked to see it was in there.

Just standard wear and tear. I'll get it sorted :)

...also would like to know wether leather interior was standard in a phase 1, or wether these have been fitted from another Ford? Never seen a ZS with leather.

I think they come from a spec called 'black'. My friend has them in his ZS. You just need the headrests and it will be complete. Not sure if they had black steering wheels or not though.

A/C was available with the first mk4's in 1995. The seats are from a 'Black' as Danny mentioned.

I see. The air-con works a treat!

Long shot but what's the chances of me getting a Ford Racing Puma interior?

Not that easy to get hold of, nor cheap! But a set does come up on ZSOC once in a while, so keep an eye out :)

looks a nice motor that! and can't complain for the price, first thing if do is whip round all the bushes etc and check what needs replacing and give it a service with some good oil, these engines are well known for being unreliable if they haven't been looked after properly (altho what engine is with poor servicing :bonkers: ) get it lowered on those wheels ! those wheels are sexy! :D
if your looking for a Frp interior your best of looking on zsoc like Danny has said and be prepared for atleast £300 for a decent condition pair of front seats, but gotta admit once you get those and a few bits trimmed in the same blue material the interior looks smart as! I do like ZS' s myself just don't think I could deal with the lack of power compared to the fiesta I have now
will keep an eye on this :)

Anyone know the best place for a Puma conversion? I'm based in Windsor, Berkshire. Anywhere near by? Puma speed? Puma Build?

Were they professionally sprayed up or done with rattle cans?

yes

they were all on the car when i bought it but i'm a painter and i can tell they have been professionally done

don't bother going to pumaspeed/build, they charge far too much for what is pretty much a simple conversion

Don't Pumabuild/speed supply the engine, rebuild it for you? I don't wanna buy a knackered puma engine and fit it myself.

May I have a picture to see condition etc? Sorry to be a pain!

those door cards in the pic above are fairly easy to do, you can buy the same material as the Frp seats so it matches 100% and then you just take out the part that's retrimmed, retrimm it and glue it back in, job jobbed. as regards to the puma conversion do not take it to puma build etc. have seen many horrors included in their "professional " conversions , tbh the puns engine conversion is extremely easy! from memory it's about 3 wires and swap a wire over on the reverse switch, there really is bugger all to it that's why so many people do it! don't spend money getting some monkey to do it for ya, get on zsoc and they'll be ten tonne of guides to show you how to do it, look forward to seeing what you do with this

Jack has been getting a lot of bad press too recently. Although I believe it as down to his supplier, and he's changed now.

I'd have thought you and thomas could get it done in a weekend easily!

its a bit more than a few wires to swap lol

ut its not that hard to do, ive done it myself, remember things like pats, engine mount, driveshafts, and the fact it needs a digital loom from a later car since yours is a mk5 and it has the digital dash standard

its harder to do that a cvh to zetec-e conversion id say

but as everyone said, theres so so sos much advice, guides and helpful people on the forums to support you, try zsoc, f4oc and ukfn for guides
so you should deffo have a crack your self if you have the tools for it

No doubt with Tom's help we could have it done in a weekend. But my worry is buying a knackered Puma lump, and getting the time to rebuild it with new parts. Now'a days I just don't have the time due to my overtime at work. I dunno, I may go Puma Speed. May regret it though, haha.

I've found some puma seats, £500 for the fronts, I'd literally pay for them now but there miles away and the courier service is ridiculously expensive.

Ford Racing Ka seats are extinct, they just can't be found. Would love them though! :Q

just buy some SS3 cams, and a remap and bam your laughing far more than a puma lump would do for you
