You will need the ground lead connected to the cars chassis somewhere or you won't get anything as the circuit ios incomplete.

The sub will connect to the speaker terminals on the amp but you will need find out if the amp you have got has a low pass filter on it (filters all the mid and treble leaving just the bass frequencies) and wheteher the amp will run in bridged mode to give one more powerfull channel.

I do tend to believe it's a more special wire like the one that powers the amp. I know mine are quite large in diameter.

Speaker wire is speaker wire...you must use the same AWG wire for ground as you do for power IIRC

can you buy the ground wire separate from the rest ? and where is the best place to ground it to ?

sorry about all the stupid questions just this is my first time of doing it and ive tried searching for my problem and cant find anything.

i asked a feller in the car electrics shop round ours and he said he'll do it for 28 pound an hour, but theres nowt sayin he'll take 10 hours to do it and charge me for other s**t as well !

£28 haha thats rediculous took me about 2 hours on my own. As said speaker wire is speaker wire im guessing your power wire is 4AWG then you need 4AWG ground wire...when you buy it in a pack its usually covered in brown plastic to signify its the earth, but that dusnt really matter if youv only got a simple system. I would go the ebay route personally or an electrical store, or car audio shop...halfrauds didnt have any spare when I went...
You will need to ground it to the car chasis, theres some in the boot near the bootlid, just scratch away the paint until you can get bare metal then put a bolt through it.

HTH

Mike :)

p.s. it needs to be as short as possible so I wouldnt go any longer than a metre for the earth

well first go at it, bought a new lot of wires , got the earth wire in, nothing, theres obviously something im missing.
ive got the remote, power from the battery, and the earth wire in, the amp switches on when i put my h/u on, but im still not getting anything from the sub, ready just to bin it, and be a saddo and get some 6x9's and a stealth shelf, at least that way im getting a bit bass.

or put it in the shop the morra and get them rip-offs to do it.

none of my mates know anything about this s**t so im sort of stumped.

Is the amp powering up? If it is what colour is the light (green or red) if red then you probably havnt got a decent earth, thats the only reason I can think of, other than the sub being nackered.
