Favourite car on here? Come of it, it's a state  But thank you :)

Got some ideas, just waiting to collect all the parts I need. It may end up being no quicker than it was before, but we'll seeeeee.

Will try and sort the photos out at some point. I've spoken to my mate who has the webserver they were all on, but I think they've been deleted now...

Sorry to hear about the crash Smo, virtually the same happened to me at a similar time! Creased the boot floor, bent the rear panel! Luckily didn't damage the chassis legs and flew through the MOT :)

More damage = more sleeper

Right, well what was meant to happen...

... I bought a low mileage 2.0 lump, as I decided to give in to having a bit more torque, with full intentions of playing with it a little to make it rev as well as my old 1.8 did. Spent a bit of money getting odds and ends I didn't already have (had an ECU and MAF from years back when I was originally going to fit a 2.0!), so it was just an internal EDIS engine loom and injectors I needed really.

Got the engine pretty much ready to go in, but wanted to get the head checked out before I bolted it back together with a new head gasket. The engine place (who did my machining work on the 1.8 last year) pressure tested the head and found about 13 or 14 of the valves seats all needed recutting - BUM! It's not a major cost, but one I could do without, plus I was starting to want one more go at getting a quicker time with the 1.8 at Ford Fair

... so the 1.8 went back in this week :D

It's got a new clutch, as I've never been happy with the old one since I fitted it, and another gearbox has gone in - which I have no idea of the condition of! But I can't see it being a problem.

Taking the lot out has given me a chance to clean a few bits up too... not the engine bay as such, but just odds and ends which as a whole were making the engine and its surrounding parts look very tacky! I've also used the later followers from the 2.0 as it was a Series 2 engine as my very early 1.8 ones often decided to tap a little even though I always used the right oil. Nearly all of them are stuck rigid while the 2.0 ones are a lot more free to move. So I'm hoping that might just make the engine a little quieter. I'm also using the coil pack from the 2.0 because the 1.8 one I've used for years (without trouble!) has always had a broken connector on it, and it's always annoyed me  Having bought an internal EDIS engine loom has also meant I could rob sections of it to make my external EDIS loom better too, as half the plastics and connectors on that have seen better days!

I've taken lots of photos, although they're all rather boring, but I will get them on as soon as I've got 5 mins :)

Boring update over :D

John - It's not quite running just yet, but hopefully in the next week or so! Hope you are well anyway :)

Mr. Dave - Never been, but would love to go sometime if I get a free day! Ideally, though, I'd like a lot more power before I take it down a 1/4 mile  I'll have to see how it feels when it's back together whether or not I want to spend much more money on it! Plus every bloody idea I have for the car ends up going out the window at the moment  Be good to see how well it goes up against the Bonus :D

Henry - Blah. When I get time... They're not particularly exciting lol.

Some photos :)

This is currently how it's looking on the outside... Pretty bad really :( Although I think it's actually worse than the photos make out!

Image

Image

Where a second attempt was made to break into my car  Pushed the handle area in the last time where they used their foot for leverage. I really need to get the CCTV footage still and upload it!

Image

Where someone slid into the back of me for a second time:

Image

Doesn't look toooo bad there, but cracked the bumper and really pushed in the rear light panel. Partly pulled it out, but it needs a lot more work to make it look right :(

Anyway...

Engine came out at the beginning of the month:

Image

Image

Really don't know what I was taking photos of here...

Image

Getting a bit grotty around here too:

Image

Dodgy old manifold

Image

Just about ready to come out:

Image

One grotty engine:

Image

Image

For some reason I was quite enjoying seeing my engine sitting in the air on the road  I think it was more because my crane has been giving me grief ever since someone borrowed it a couple of years ago and I was impressed that it was staying up!

One hole with dodgy gearbox remaining:

Image

Right, since then I stripped a 2.0 engine which was going to replace it, but seeing as the head was a bit buggered, I changed my mind (for now).

The 1.8 lump...

Whipped the head off to change the head gasket again. It never actually blew, but I changed the one that I fitted when I did the rebuild last year because I thought it was the cause of some problems I had, however it never made a difference  So I changed it back again before dropping the engine back in.

Image

Image

Had a new flywheel cleaned up a bit to go on too as my old one was a bit rough...

Old one with clutch still in place:

Image

New one:

Image

Very sexy :D

Image

Bunged on with a freshly painted register  (I really didn't need to paint it gold, but I thought I'd see how it looked )

Image

... and with the head back on:

Image

Unfortunately that was the last photo before this one:

Image

... where it's back in place! Big thanks to Steve (bakewell001) for coming round at such short notice to help me get it back in! I literally had one evening to get it back in, otherwise it was going to be at least a week and a half before I had another chance :( Everything else I can do when I get 5 mins here and 5 mins there, but getting the engine in meant making sure I had a few hours spare in case of any problems! I don't think it actually took too long, but it was being a pain and Steve with his magic fingers suddenly made it fall straight into place :bonkers: Git  CVHs and HCSs are sooooo much easier

I'm now taking my time trying to clean stuff up as much as possible because my engine bay is a complete state. That will also include cleaning the engine itself up... It had a good coat of paint last year when I rebuilt it, so it only needs the dirt cleaning off, but that breather looks a right state, so that will get tidied up in the next few days. Giving the 4-2-1 a damn good clean up too, and the primaries have already been painted up. I'll post some more photos up once some more progress has been made though :) Really want to get it back together so I know that the gearbox is good! But I really must take my time to do things right and make it look half decent too :) Once the mechanics are good, then I can focus on getting the outside back to how it was 10 years ago when I bought it! :D

If not, then it might just end up as a cube pretty soon

Haha, had a dupiaza in the end - wasn't great!

The MS is laying in wait :) Runs lovely though and I think I did a pretty good job of mapping it on a narrowband! Definitely won't go back on until I have a decent wideband lambda.

Not done a lot, all my plans went out the window :( I'll be happy if the gearbox works, though  And if it runs smoother with the later tappets :)

Tom, I look forward to it :bonkers:

Unfortunately, if rust is showing here, the inner wing is likely to be toast and unsafe in an accident :(

Water collects between the inner wing/upper wheel well seam and rots out from beneath the sealer. It's a bad design.

Well it's all running now, gave it a quick blast up the dual carriageway and it feels OK :)

Gearbox is definitely better than the old one, but it's still a bit notchy :(

The clutch is sooooo much better, but I was so used to how heavy and bad the last one was that it's taking a while to adapt to the new biting point and the lightness  But I think with time I'll love it :)

Seriously need to get the tracking done, it's awful, I forgot how bad it was on funny roads, so will get that done ASAP! I gave it a bit of a boot in second down a relatively straight dual carriageway and it was all over the place, I couldn't actually keep my foot down

Apart from that, just needs a serious clean and eventually sort the bodywork out  I'm happy with the engine at the moment, so don't need to pull that out again anytime soon

I'll get some photos up tomorrow or something, but there's not an awful lot to see really, just a cleaner-than-it-was engine bay

I have no idea to be honest!

When I had it rolling roaded a couple of years ago it made 129 and 131 on two runs, although I reckon they were a little high. I think it's got to be a little bit more than what it was then, but I'll find out what it's doing one day :)

I need to get it going straight first

Oh, and change my master cylinder too... The brakes are shocking compared to my 1.1!
