Simon, simon simon simon, oh how did I miss this update?
Car's looking lovely- love the silver steelies, suit it to a T! I also agree with the black bumpers comments - would make it look even more sleeperish! Looks better lowered, too

Smo please don't put black bumpers on, yours is the only white fiesta with colour coded bumpers that have ever seen

Don't worry guys, if I decide to change my bumpers it'll be under my own influence So no more about bumpers in my topic please!
Hopefully picking up another gearbox from xrsi on Saturday to replace my whining one, and another engine that may be a temp while I 'play' with the current one Also getting a Turbo rack too, as I want to track it eventually, so hopefully that'll help a little. Does anyone know if I can use the Turbo rack with non-Turbo lower arms? It's not too much of a problem because I can get proper arms through work OK, but would prefer to keep my existing arms for a while as I've only just replaced them!
I've also been trying to get my flywheel lightened and balanced, but so far I've only found one place to actually give me a quote... So unless I can find anyone else soon, I'll just be going with it.
Not much else to say at the moment but I'll be keeping this more up-to-date now as I collect more parts and do more bits and bobs

Try Kent Performance - they will probably quote you - I think they're located around Medway area, but from what I've heard they can do anything

OK, cheers Nick I'll try and give them a go. There's a place in Faversham that apparently can do a lot of stuff too, which is right next to one of the branches of the company I work for, but I've not managed to ask them yet - going to try tomorrow if I go over that way. Just need someone who can do it properly and not someone who thinks they can do it properly!
Just to add - I've done an oil change tonight Not done one since the beginning of the year And just so I can look back at this in a few months time... [goes and checks]:
Current Mileage: 115671
I shall now know how long I leave it until the next change

Well I've spoken to my manager who knows the people over the road from our Faversham branch so I'm going to pop in the next time I'm there... Sounds like they do just about everything, so hopefully they can do all the balancing too

Re: Popular Plus 16v - 16/01/09 - Dead Gearbox - Page 7
Just a little update...
The old gearbox was making a bit of noise and was feeling a little rough too, so I replaced it with another which was ran fine for about 5 days before it decided it would get stuck in gear! Managed to get it into 2nd while outside my girlfriend's house and drive it home but something's properly seized up inside
So I'm currently driving quite possibly the worst ever MK1 Clio at the moment while mine's poorly The heating doesn't work, the wipers don't return to their correct resting positions, it hesitates all the time, the heater fan is either all or nothing (not that it matters when all it blows is cold air ), and I've never known a car to form ice on the inside of the windscreen as thick as the outside... But apart from that, it's great! Oh, the washers also decided to stick on the other night too, draining the washer tank and driving me insane from the noise to the point where I had to pull over and turn the ignition off until it decided to stop trying to pump
Hopefully picking up one or two 1.8 16v gearboxes on Saturday morning to get me running again, with the potential second box being a spare in case it happens again! I could fit the old one I had back in, but I really didn't want to have to rip it out again, so I'm trying to be patient! Although this Clio is certainly pushing its luck with me
I've also bought a load of exhaust wrap to finally get my 4-2-1 wrapped, and as an additonal benefit, hopefully help my starting problems I get every now again where I think the manifold keeps cooking everything
More to come... Slowly, but surely!

That sucks about the gearbox, hopefully one of the new ones will be decent.
I can't help but laugh at the Clio and the washers getting stuck.

Yeah, I'm hoping I've found a suitable replacement!
Just driving back from Essex at the moment having picked up a couple of boxes from a very nice bloke on here Also picked up a couple of central locking motors at the same time as the latch mech on my driver's side seems to have lost its spring!
Can't wait to get it back on the road

Right, after a Friday evening and Saturday morning of laying in the road, I've managed to replace my gearbox with one that appears to have selectable gears Not sure how long it'll last, but it's nice just to drive a car that actually warms up inside
So next up...
1) Wrap the 4-2-1 and replace exhaust manifold gasket.
2) Tidy up the engine bay a little.
3) Fit my Escort brake servo and master cylinder, along with the Zetec S rear beam and braided hoses.
4) Bodywork(!)
5) Remove and refit (better) most of the interior in order to minimise any rattling from engine/gearbox and road vibrations.
6) Lots of naughtiness.

You might have tissues with the FRST rack and l/arms. When i wanted to use a standard rack on FRST arms there were maybe only 3 turns available on the track rod ends, so i decdided against it.
Good to hear its working again!

Yeah, I remember you saying about that. I was hoping that it won't be a problem being the other way round, but I work with car parts all day, so I can get a couple of proper FRST lower arms easily enough

Re: Popular Plus 16v - 14/04/09 - Oooh, Stuff Happening - Page 7
Update time!
Not a lot.
OK, seriously... I've got my runaround all MOT'd for another year now, so it's safe to start work on this one
Before I start, I should mention (in case I haven't already in the topic) that I've got a small amount of oil coming down the side of the sump, which I've guessed from day one was the crank seal... I've also got a small amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust if I boot it from about 5K onwards, but after a few good hard thrashes, it's gone. I'm assuming it's the valve stem seals because it clears and only seems to reappear after the car as stood over night. I've also done a compression test and all 4 cyclinders are about 175 to 180PSI, so the rings should be in pretty good shape
Right, so it looked a bit like this when I got home tonight:
The cambelt cover was on there, but I took it off just before taking the photo to see if the rocker cover gasket had been leaking (which it hadn't). I'm pretty sure it's the crank seal... (Will get a photo up later.)
It's in a bit of a state at the moment - still got filler on the back from when a girl in a Ka rear-ended me
Never taken any photos of the interior either, so here are a couple in their natural (untidy/dirty/dusty) glory!
As you can see, it's pretty much full XR2i 16v, except for the lack of a leather gearknob. Over the last couple of weeks I've really had to appreciate how good these seats hold you as well. My runaround is a G-reg 1.1 LX with the basic trim seats (exactly the same as I had in the Popular Plus) and I had completely forgotten how much I have to hold the gearknob and wheel when I go round corners in order to stay in my seat The 16v seats really do their job!
I've got a nasty hole in the wing too at the moment:
... which I'll hopefully be sorting out with most of the bodywork over the next few months now that I don't need to use the car everyday
You can also see where I've been rubbing down various bits (and just protecting as a temp measure) to find out exactly where I've got rot and what needs cutting and what can be saved - oh what fun! Needs to be done though...
Well after spending an hour or so on it, I've drained the coolant, undone a few of the hoses, removed the air box, intake, MAF sensor, fan, leads, and unhooked a few of the connectors... Very slow work for me!
... and made a nice mess with the coolant (I caught most of it, but more got away than I realised )
I've also been suffering what felt like a bit of misfire and a small lack of power the last couple of months. After pulling the plug leads out this evening, I noticed number 4 on the coilpack is corroded to absolute buggery! Never noticed that before, not even when I changed the leads a few weeks back I really should have had a closer look, but I just completely missed it. So yeah, I think that explains that now
Anyway, that's the start of things More to come soon!
Not a lot.
