Wha? The Zetec is the easiest conversion for the MK4, and its not as though you dont have much choice! The 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 bolt straight in

Yeah, was going to say, Zetec is just a brand as the Duratec is. IIRC Both engine's are same as the Mazda enginered ones whereas in the mk4's 5's Pumas are Yamaha Zetecs.

yep exsactly my point, the 1.25 etc is in the Sigma family, but not the 1.6/1.8/2.0 is a zeta family, hence theyre real zetecs not just a badge atop the engine

Really you want to look at fitting a Duratec or something similar to your MK4 - A nice, modern and lightweight engine compared to what really is an old heavy engine in mine Have you seen AdamB's MK4?
I'm happy with what I've acheived with mine, however if I'm honest, it's not how I want it to be... It's not pleasent to drive at all anymore, not unless you're having some fun around country lanes or have a nice bit of road to open it up on But at the moment I still need to keep it as an everyday car so the plan is to do something about the way it drives and make it enjoyable again ...
... Oh, while also still making it faster

Henry, what I mean is, I use it on the road and often use it everyday, so I need it to be nice to drive. See below why
Red 2.0 Duratec on throttle bodies - or at least I believe that's what it is... May be I'm wrong?
The problem with mine is, I've raised the compression ratio a bit, around 11:1, and even though it doesn't sound a lot, it has made a nice difference - it's very responsive now and definitely a small improvement in power. An irritating side effect of this is that the engine always feels very much on edge now, kinda jerky if you're not that extra bit gentle with it when starting to accelerate or backing off which can make it bit tiring when driving in traffic I can *just about* live with it at the moment, but as I want a lot more power out of it, it's only going to get worse as soon as I start adding throttle bodies, lumpier cams, etc... all things I really hadn't considered originally. It would be OK if I was going to solely as a track car or weekend fun car, but at the moment that won't be anytime soon!
I can now see why people talk about the driveability of high compression NA cars, especially when they're running 13:1+. To think, mine's no where near that!

Its an engine management system that you build yourself. You can add all kinds of things to it like launch control, anti lag etc.
Search megasquirt on google or ebay, should shed a bit more light on it.

Filthy lot!
And cheers, Dave I'm sure your 2.0 will manage it OK
Yeah, a supercharger kit would be lovely, and it is something I looked at many times for mine, ideally using a Rotrex job, but trying to find one for sensible money just wasn't happening Using an Eaton (e.g. the Mini one like you mentioned) is probably the most cost-effective way to do it, however the fabrication work required is obviously a lot more! Find a second hand Rotrex setup though (charger, filter, oil cooler, etc.) and make a good solid bracket up to mount it, and you're almost there

Sorry Dave, I never replied to you! Erm, you probably have an answer now, but I don't know whether Rotrex chargers were ever/are a standard fit on any production vehicle, but generally they're sold as aftermarket items/kits. Perfect for a Zetec I reckon, though
Update - Sort of.
Well, it's been a while since I updated this...
I've not actually done anything to it except kill another gearbox, but that's to be expected
Oh, and someone ran into the back of me just before Christmas smashing the bumper, pushing the O/S rear light panel in and creasing the boot floor - not what I wanted! But the road was an ice rink at the time, and I could do nothing except watch a Toyota Avensis slowly slide straight into the back of me My neck and back was a bit stiff the next day But nothing serious I'd never sworn as rudely as I did in front of my dad though at the point I got out of the car to look at the damage I do have some photos, but to be honest, they're not necessary! Just reminds me how much more is added to the list of things I need to do to the car now. All I've done is push the light panel back out, but I've left the rest of the damage as is - may well even stay like that... At least it can't get any worse
So yeah, sod the body work at the moment. Now the weather is changing for the better, I shall now persue my aim of making the car quicker
More to come!
