all you do is drill a hole from the bulkhead in the engine bay, make sure you drill it so its somewhere behind the dash, i can get pics of mine but its on a mk3 no 4, and i see your from crewe, im not too far from there

Dont need to drill anywhere in the bulkhead at all.
On the MK 4 there is a large rubber grommit behind the firewall, which with a bit of cutting will gladly take a power cable.
This comes out on the passenger side of the car, you need to take all the plastics on the left side off though, and the power cable will come into the cabin just behind the glove box on the passenger side.
Battery to firewall (Stanley knife off the corner, and feed the wire under the rubber seal.
Grommit for wire to go through.
Like it was meant to be there

ITS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE ON THE MK3. Go cutting throughthe passanger side and thats where your ecu is (or atlest on most models) and that could get interesting.
Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

Well it's mine, and I'm glad I took them, cus it's a question that bizarely gets asked, but noone ever seems to have a clear answer. Just makes it easier than trying to explain "Cut here, feed wire here, stick it through this".

Thanks everyone for the replys, especially Guy MK4, the pics are a great help!!
Just one qu. Guy:
What d'ya mean by "you need to take all the plastics on the left side off" do you mean the panel the white arrows point to on PIC: A. below? If this is the case, its looks pretty easy, just 5 or 6 screws i counted, is it that easy??
Also i think i could spot the rubber seal from the inside when looking up from the floor behind the glove box - located as if it were the behind the top left of the glove box?? I snapped it in PIC: B. Am i right? i presume this'll need another small hole in like the grommit in the engine bay on your pic.
Cheers!!

You got it in one
Those are the trims to take off.
Easiest way to check you have the right grommit is to get a mate to wiggle the wire going though it. If it moves you got the right one. Quick incision with a Stanley and you're away.
There is enough room to run your power cable under those plastic trims to your boot too
HTH.

IF YOU HAVE A PLASTIC COVER on the passenger side, all is well. But if something else is there, this is the ecu and you must go through the other side. WHen i did mine, i simply pushed it out, and you could reach without having to remove the trim, although i guess to run it down the car under the carpet you have to remove the trim.

I think you'll find dirt just by the hinges
Dont look that clean right now, that was the day after a good clean
As for the caps, they are more like plugs. If you can find a really thin screwdriver (Like one of the tiny ones you get in Christmas crackers) you can prize them out. You may lose one or two of the legs of the plugs, but they push right back in. Plus they are pence from Ford

IM not doing an attack to you putting the pics up etc, but its a mk4, not a mk3. You have that rubber gromet thing on the passanger side, its on the drivers side on the mk3. On the mk3, you either have a plastic pannel that is fine to drill through and pass a power cable through, or you have a rubber cover, that has your ecu behind it, and that wont be fun to drill through.
YOu may have to remove the bar that your seatbelt ataches to by the door to get that bit of trim off as its quite difficult to move the plastic with it in the way.
Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.
