Power loss on 16v!
Ive noticed that my 1.6 16v ghia (same engine as Si etc...) is very much down on power. Doh.! Normally there is a noticable increase in acceleration between 40 and 50mph in 2nd gear, and 60 to 70mph in 3rd. This has now dissappeared, but returns one the car has been running for around 5-10 miles or so (engine heats up? duno..). Im certain this was not the case before, and when this loss occurs, my m8's 1.2 16v clio is near on exactly the same from 0-80mph, after which he overtakes me!!!!(this cant happen!) Only thing ive done recently is top up the oil, nothing special. Driving wise, i havent been doing any long journeys recently, i dont know if this would have an effect, but its worth a mention. N e ideas peeps?! Cheers.

Mine is more powerfull on startup for some reason, lot more pokey and responsice
Mines never done that but I could make some guesses like malfunctioning sensors.

a few people are saying there car is no good when its cold, this isnt the best time to be caning it! the oil pressure/temp is like fcuk all and wont be protecting the engine very well! make sure you car is warmed up to its normal running temp before driving it hard!

91k atm, supposely some 40yr women drivin it.
they tried a few things to stop the oil going.
its wierd tho i used nearly 1/4 -> 1/2 a thing of oil on way to cambs, 1hr40min travel down motorway. on way there and back.
went again month l8r, did same thing, but use non on way back...
see some smoke when workin engine hard, and uses oil still whilst driving around.
only did 28 miles and can alreaedy see the gap from where it was at max....
they tried engine flush n stuff, now they keep going on about engine rebuild ......
;(
used nearly a full dipstick lvl of oil in 400miles

yep hes right , thats why regular oil changes are the key for keeping your engine going for as long as possible

ok.... so im guessing it needs an oil change.... it was last changed in october during a service. I was wondering about spark plugs also? I cant see any record of them being changed recently, but i have been told they last some time?? Im gona give my car a decent 200+ mile round trip fairly soon so that [ERRR] help iron out n e problems, since i left college, i rarely do more then 5 miles on a trip!!! doh. THe oil i put in the btw was from my parents honda, fully synthetic don't know if thats a problem n e one?

You guys do know that those 16v engines require a different grade of oil to that specified in the handbook? (to prevent the sticky valves problem) IIRC it's 5w-30,so I always put the Ford stuff in as that was the only type I could find in that grade

Dodgy handbook hey.......
Ive been for a longer run 2nite in the car, driving around and its deffinitely the longer its been running, the better the acceleration, im just sure it never used to have such a big effect on it. Im guessing its to do with engine temperature. It seems to be ok about a third of the up into "normal".
