I'm currently driving an 90 Escort Sport, decked out with the rst bodykit, bumpers etc, but would like more power from the car. Is there anything I can do now to increase power or will I be better off going for the turbo conversion ?

ok, I never sleep and am spending too much time in this forum. Basically if your not a novice mechanically and you believe that you can fit a cvh turbo yourself, then go for it, remember that there getting on a bit, so your be lucky to find all the parts in good condition.
If your paying for someone else to fit all this stuff, then do yourself a favour and find the best engine and parts you can get hold of, remember that you'll probably never get the money you spend back, when u sell it. But you'll hopefully get it back in satisfaction.
I'd recommend an rs 1.8 fiesta or rs 2.0 escort gearbox.
escort/siera saphire 4x4 cosworth calipers
rs 2000 zetec engine and management and get a low pressure turbo conversion. This way your escort will maintain some value, as there is already a turbo model, so know one's going to buy yours unless its something really special. These are just my opinions of course and I'm probably completely wrong. Hope this helped.
over and out chrys

The RS2000 used the I4 DOHC lump, twin cam 16 valve but chain driven cams instead of a belt, ain't got much in common with a Zetec i don't think.I remember seeing a turbo'ed one on the cover of Fast Ford a few years back,i'll see if i can dig the mag out for any info .
