You'll need the power rack from a Fiesta and all the pipes, cooler and tank. I believe you can use the pump from the 1.4 Si as that is essentially a CVH. Your problem may be the pressure switch as I'm not sure if the XR2i ecu has the facility to wire it in.

Yes you can do it and no I wouldn't.

The Fiesta steering is far from heavy and the PAS removes the feel (although the rack is quicker) and will also sap some of the power.

Buy some weights and build up your arm muscles instead.

think the switch just makes the ecu increase the revs at idle when the steering puts it under load?

lol... thats a bit suckass man... you dont just give up because its not original...

do forgive me tho im pissed.. so a little overt or whatever the word is, you must have concerns what are they???

as it goes, your engine uses the 1600 cvh engine, the same as the 1.4 si apart from its 1400 and runs on sequential injection, so all the gear and bracketery are available from a 1400 si.

someone on here has fitted pas to there rsturbo.. althought i have no idea what they did with the switch, i can only assume you would connect that switch up to the ecu to the same pin as the ecus that came on cars with pas, there all eec-iv at the end of the day and im pretty sure pas was optional on most?

Get ready to kiss goodbye to at least 10bhp if you do it though

My mate binned the PAS off his V6 converted Astra GSi and we found 15bhp by not having to run the PAS pump and goodies.

I would really like to see some eveidence of this mystical 10hp that you seems to think it uses on the fiesta. I'm not saying your wrong, ten horsepower does seem a little steep though. It would certainly be a good idea to go electric pump if it is true.

A simple way to demonstrate the theory is to drive a car with aircon. drive with the system off and see how the car feels then turn it on. You can feel the car hold back as while the pump etc is engaged it uses power from the engine. Different cars will differ in this loss but it's a good demonstration.

Fully appriciated but a power steering pump does not have anything like same amount of drag as an aircon pump.

No I appreciate that but it does show the principle behind it.

To be fair the only way to proove fully is to run a car up on a dyno, remove the PAS and then run it up again

I think we should get Heeman on the case with his new setup so this discussion stops happening everytime somebody asks about the conversion! :D

adding powersteering will also help with some torque steer problems

regarding powersteering, surley the more the pump has to work the more power it would drain ie more steering the more it drain? if youre going in a straight line not much action is needed in the feedback of the steering?

i looked at other turbo cars mainly dubs 1.8ts they have p.a.s,air.con,abs,hydrolic clutch and gear linkage system not much is lost.maybee its just the ford design? im sure theres way around this " loss " i think 5bhp at most but needs to be tested.tbh...

I can't see it being a huge amount or else the 1100 HCS fiesta's with it fitted would be rolling around with 35 hp. It must have an effect and I'm inclined to agree with the straight line = a lot less work idea. We need to get it tested though to silence the doubters! :bonkers: Hopefully with viabale electric pump as well then Jay can write another guide for the conversion.

HCS engined cars didn't come with PAS though, did they? Maybe this'd be why.

hmm.. what about if you have a cvh efi fiesta or escort with power steering and want to remove it whilst replacing the engine? would you just remove the power steering pipes, pulley and tank or would you need a non PAS rack as well?

I would near dare say a new rack as well. iirc the FRST has a quicker rack than the 1.1 etc (but i may be wrong :()

If you can get a genuine FRST rack then you're a luck man they are as hard to get hold of as 4x4 RS2k transfer boxes. Hence why mine has an XR2i rack in it :(

I meant need a new rack as in a different one Steve, ie a new rack to the car not necessarily a brand new rack :)

What's the difference between the XR2i rac kand the FRST one ?

The FRST rack has slightly less turns lock to lock than the 2i item. My brothers does still have an FRST rack and driving his and mine back to back there is a huge difference.
