Powerflex Polyurethane Bushes

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby Paul Taylor on Thu Aug 16, 2001 11:32 am

I'm thinking of getting a set of Powerflex Polyurethane Exhaust Mounts for my FRST. How many of these do I need to do the full exhaust system?

Also is it worth fitting any of the Anti-Roll Bar/Rear Beam Bushes or will this seriously sacrifice the ride?

Cheers,

Paul.

Hmm, I've heard varying reports on 'uprated' bushes. Bear in mind they are much harder than std rubber ones so will give you a much harder ride....

whatever you do - DONT get the polyurethane Gearbox mount! - They're spork!
Back in the day mine snapped into 2 pieces with the torque after 1 day!

The poly bushes are ok for roll bars  I have them fitted

But do not use them for suspension, unless you want your fillings to come out

I've ordered the three exhaust mounts but will hold fire on any of the others.

I think the only other ones I would consider now is the Rear Anti Roll Bar bushes.

Many thanks for your replies!

Can't see the point of stiffer exhaust mounts myself - unless you want the exhaust mountings to crack  ....the rubber ones are more than adequate and allow the whole system to flex as the car moves.....

PU bushes - about as much use as a chocolate teapot!

stick to anti roll bars, on a fast road car anything else, inc exhaust mounts are too harsh,

point of stiffer exhaust munts id to damp teh exhaust vibrations LESS i.e. make the car reverberate more!

RE aftermarket suspension bushes, I'm not entirely convinced.. I'm replacing the whole lot on mine, don't know whether to get ford or Polyurethane items, remember that ford would have possible invested million in getting the "perfect" design, would Powerflex have the required info on car/funds to do the job as well as ford?

on the other hand the softer rubber ones were designed to run on standart higher profile tyres that accoun for a lot of damping od shock/vibration etc etc, when running lower profile tyres (not to mention stiffer sus) will the softer rubber ones be "overworked"

it is this "overworking" thast stopping me putting 18s on my other car as I don't want to upset a really nice balance.

Sunny you talking about your Porsche? Cos I don't get FWD powerslides!

Had the Exhaust Mounts fitted which just seem to be more sturdy but with no additional vibration.
