pre-outs

hi all, ive found the prob to my sound system, its my head unit, got the front speakers working fine but the subs still aint comming on, we think its the pre-outs on he back of the head unit ha are f**ked, is her any way i can fix it or is it new head unit time?

have you checked your earth cables and your remote cable, also check all fuses,

power cable
HU
amp
fuse box.
any extras in e.g. distribution box

yup checked all that, the green light on the amps are comming on, its the head unit, think the pre-outs have gone, any way can fix them or new head unit?

New head unit unless old one's in warranty

im skint at the mo and need a new head unit, just changed jobs and wont be square with my money for afew more weeks :(

Before condeming the head unit borrow an RCA cable that is known to work and run that straight from your pre-outs to the amp. Also make sure the amp is powering up. You can pop a multimeter on. Pre-outs vary wildly though from 500mV to 4.5v and just about everywhere in the middle

done that, the green lights are on, on the amps, so they are getting power, ive even tryed a different set of rca leads and still no joy :(

is there a break in the cable between the sub and amp. and is it wired up to the correct +- between amp and sub

well ive tested 2 rca cables and the subs used to work fine, just decided to go one day on the way home from work

Check a connection hasn't came off the sub, and that nobody has messed with your gain controls.

A mate of mine though he'd popped a sub but it turned out it that one of the +/- had came off the sub within the box.

got it all working now fine, but im still having my problems, driving along and all the sound will just come off, or just the sound and only base on or no base and just sound, it just randomly comes off, if i open the door and slam it shut it comes bk on? could it be a bad earth or crap wiring?

its only really started it while doing the electrics pack conversion
